During MLB strike in 1981 the LA Times did a front page above the fold article about a pitcher that played for Camarillo Kings in the Western Softball Congress by the name of Mark Smith. He was clocked at 102mph. As I recall Ty Stofflet was also clocked around 102. Ty had an article about him in Sports Illustrated.
I never witnessed it, but legend has it that in his prime, a Canadian chucker named Brad Underwood was clocked at 104. Regardless, even 82 from 46 feet (40 after the hop) is like 100+ from 60 feet. Then add the up or down aspect from the rise, it's nearly impossible to hit. You swing and hope. A lot of choppers in the dirt.
@vonmilash823 there is a man out of Brussels Ontario name ty sebastian who throws around 82. He's almost unhittable. I just shorten up the swing and hopefully find a hole. It's the change up at 65 tho that's so nasty after seeing 80+
I get the feeling now that these reports were always MLB “equivalent speed” that got reported back in the day regarding fast pitch softball pitchers. Because I search hi and low for video evidence or real data reports from real studies of these guys being conducted with modern equipment (the kind that was / is used to study professional baseball pitchers) that show these 100mph + speeds. They don’t exist. All these 100 mph softball pitcher reports are likely apocryphal, and based on the common US assumption that pitching speeds should be converted to MLB equivalents in order to make sense to US readers and listeners.
He's pitching from I say 46 feet. Now in the 70s I have seen some men fast pitch softball and they were clock at around 77 to 82. This was the traditional softball pitching. But men pitch from 46 Landed about 5 feet out. The ball was in the mitt before I even took a breath. They need to bring this back. Men softball fast pitch. It was fast and some of those hitters could take it to the moon.
You're right. After the pitch at 1:47 the ump clearly (and correctly) indicates 3-2. Then there's a foul, then a ball (should be a walk). The ump again indicates 3-2 (haha) and then the better takes a 3rd strike next pitch.
I watched Adam at the 2010 ISC World. He is amazing to watch. I am not sure in my younger days that i could hit that, but man i sure would have loved to try....
I was doing some research trying to find where my ancestors belong to and find this name Adam Folkard i still can't believe what I see even though i see it my maiden name is Folkard
i pitched quite a few no hitters, back in the day, charleston all stars, charleston w va , until women took over the game, most men started playing slow pitch
Sorry bud, you're wrong. They were using radar guns to time pitches back in the 70s. I recall a pitcher from Tulsa named Roy Burleson who routinely threw at just over 100 mph. He played a good part of his career for Springfield, Mo. teams. A couple of pitchers in St. Joe, Mo. where I played topped out at or over 100. A young pitcher from Savannah, Mo. was timed on the University of Missouri campus, while he was a student there throwing over 100. He played for several State and National championship teams in St. Joe. I watched a few games at the National ASA tournament in St. Joe and saw several pitchers who were said to throw the ball at 100 mph. At the distance of 46.5 feet away, that ball sure looks like a BB coming at you.
How long has this rule been around? The pitcher being able to hop? (We called this a crow hop) When I played, your trail foot had to stay on the mat/ground. During my playing days if we were allowed to pitch this way, more guys would be pitching 85mph as a standard pitch.
@@robertlomman3116 well there was day when it was on TV and championship games had 30+ thousand in attendance. We have less than half the umpires we had 30 years ago and the average age of a pitcher is twice what it was, because younger people don’t play as much. Many states had morning leagues so night shift guys could play. Contact state organizations and look at the data. It’s on life support at best. It’s too bad, it’s a great game…
Why do they allow mens fastpitch pitchers to jump when the throw? Women have to have they're back, drag foot keep contact with the ground at all times. He seems to jump with both feet as he winds up and throws.
@@dookiehoser3051 Not saying he isnt good. He is not even close to the rubber. When i used to sling they would only allow me to start on the rubber and take one stride. It took a ton off the fastball. But had no choice.
The rules are different for the men’s game. In the men’s game, the pivot foot may come off the ground and replant so long as the toes are pointed downward.

@Brandpn Russell 🤣🤣🤣 I'd give you five swings for a hundred bucks to hit one into the grass off adam or cleary..or hell any of the top 30 pitchers in the isc
Women can leap too just not in a lot(if any) of the US associations. Fastpitch isn't just a US womens university/college game. The Mens game is faster it just doesn't have the exposure womens fastpitch or mens baseball has
I was throwing that fast in men’s modified fast pitch straight back and straight forward without leaping off the mound and replanting, no windmill, nothing special here
Thx man It's been a long weekend and I needed a good belly laugh 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Nothing special here ...."I was throwing that hard in modified"... And yet we've never heard of you and he will go down as if not the best ,one of the two or three best ever... He is crow-hopping. Look at the :22 sec. mark his pivot/push foot is contacting the ground....replanting....and the ball is still in his hand. I can not figure out why ISC and others do not enforce the rule more.

Hell he prolly never saw the damn ball. Lmao

He leaps off the mound and replants his back foot before releasing the ball. ILLEGAL!!!!!!
Wrong. In the men’s game, the pivot foot may leave the ground and replant, so long as the toes are pointing downward.
The rules are different.
Malcolm Constant from sask Canada was clocked in the upper 90"s to 105 without the hop.... imagine that

U r lucky
I Counted 4 Balls. Ump even puts his hands up saying its a full count before he threw the 4th ball. Wtf
I thought so, too.
i pitched quite a few no hitters, back in the day, charleston all stars, charleston w va , until women took over the game, most men started playing slow pitch
All the grace of a newborn giraffe on rollerskates.
Awesome pitcher. It's a pitty thou they don't always win you games.
That was Greg Garrity hitting.
No one ever threw a softball 100 mph since radar guns… mid 80s is probably the absolute peak of human possibility
Venezuelan softball tournament recently had American pitcher Marco Diaz clocked at 89mph
Yea dood Diaz cam hum it

Been like this for decades. I’m a pitcher and I pitch old school, this stuff here is a joke. It’s why men’s fastpitch is dead.
Agree 2 feet on the rubber 1 second pause within 6 “ of the hip arm cannot go above shoulder
@@frozendivots1564 I'd beg to differ on that last sentence

In men's fastpitch you are allowed to "leap" but you just can't "crow-hop"... You do not have to drag your pivot foot like in the women's game.
Actually referred to as a hard push
Throw that funky softball, white boy!! Lol. Looks good!!
those who played would call his style of pitching crow hopping because both feet are off the ground
HOLY COW!!!
Nice pitching

Can someone explain this jumping style of pitching? Why aren't women doing this? Is it illegal in the women's leagues/college?
what the hell? u need 5 balls for a walk or what?!
Pretty sure that's Greg garrity at bat!
Sure was. Can recognize that meathead anywhere.
Yeah def a BB
Lots of pitchers threw harder years ago. Seems like they all slowed down when the radar gun started being used. Go figure.
HE"S BALKING LIKE CRAZY! THOUGH
you can't balk in softball
no balk, totally legal
Actually u do have to pause 1 sec before u throw this is so as not to decieve the batter
Not in men's fastpitch.
After the pitcher re-plants he is 6 feet closer to the plate?! NCAA does not allow this pitch!!!
CLEARLY ITS ALLOWED IS HIS LEAGUE
Unless your name is Kelly Barnhill
Juan Cruz, or it’s bc the umps suck and don’t know to look for it
Hard push been allowed in mens since 80s
Illegal. Stay on the rubber and one step then lets see how good he is.
In north america the men are allowed to pitch this way its called a hard push not a hop ncaa women are allowed to take 1 foot off rubbber now

It’s that fast cuz he hopped and ur not supposed to do that and that’s why he can throw faster than a girl but if he didn’t hop itd be a diff story
80s and 90s men pitched just as fast with no crow hop. I don't think it really helps with speed

In the 70's and 80's this pitcher's delivery would have been illegal.
By the mid 80s this pitching was the norm its called a hard push not a hop btw
