- Video from Rantoul Illinois as the city is building a new sports complex and I was here as the project was just getting started and a contractor is moving dirt.
In the video is two Mobile Track Solutions (MTS) 3630T tractors pulling MTS pan scrapers and a Deere 9570RX tractor pulling Deere 1224D E Pans.
Thanks for the info on the MTS Tractors. Another great video. I wish there was someone like you doing videos on construction equipment. You give right amount of information and you don't talk to much
Never seen such kind of works before.
Thanks for showing!👍🏻
I work for the construction company that started MTS, so naturally I work around these tractors every day and it’s pretty cool when you get 10-12 of them going along with a handful of scraper trucks. They can definitely move a lot of dirt in a hurry!
C18 powered Versatile?!?! Sounds like a WIN!!
CAT/CAT, they're using the transmission, why not use CAT engines....
A huge win
🇧🇴 👍 Ok saludos cordiales desde Sudamérica Santa Cruz bolivia 🇧🇴 👍 excelente el video amigo 👀👀😀👍👍
Those are Awesome. I am Glad to see video of these.
The ground getting kinda soupy when the outside temperature rises above freezing kinda explains why tracked tractors are being used for this job, I’m sure wheeled tractors would probably be stuck spinning their tires and not going anywhere if you tried to use a wheeled 4WD tractor for pulling these scraper pans.
Thanks Mike , I never knew anything about the MTS tractors
Great video MIKE , I enjoyed that very informative
Good video as always. Only a hour from me so that was cool to see.. maybe I’ll run into you someday filming sir
Good video👍At first I tought the MTS is a tracked challenger, never heard of these machines.
Its funny to follow these Ag channels and be awed by this equipment... then follow the mining equipment, or the marine industries... In Ag were at 620 hp tractors, in marine or generation departments of CAT you're in the 1000's... LOL I left farming after 35 years, and am now in Corp IT. I went to Purdue, in Lafayette IN where MASSIVE CAT marine and generation engines are produced... At my current job our primary backup site we have a C175-16 gen set, a 3400hp 16 cyl CAT,,, 4 turbos as big as a tractor engine,,, this gen set is as big as a house... its connected to a 16k gal fuel tank, should run for 2 weeks... hahaha... ITS FREAKING BEAUTIFUL!!! The exhalation you get when its running is magical... hope you all get to experience some of the different diesel engines I have, next on my list would be a 10's of thousands HP container ship engines... the 3 story ones...
It's cool to see the the equipment I paint..
I have never done this type of work, but i think i had rather do farm work. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for answering my questions, Mike.
crazy you were like 30 miles from where I live. I don't think I've heard of the mts line either. great vid .
I have thousands of hours in the operators seat of the MTS tractors. The are powerful and proving to be very durable. Way more durable than Case and Deere. However I’m not a fan of the MTS scrapers. The perfect set up would be MTS tractor with a K-Tech pan.
Very very nice Mike
More black earth there than in my entire state. Land lays better also. WOW. must be nice.
Great video.
Thanks Mike! MTS is my next tractor.
Rantoul? Wow I was stationed at Chanute Air Foce Base there in Rantoul in 1981-82.
Good video Farm hand
Caterpillar 👍💪!
I dont want to give this video a thumbs down--no. This video makes me sad because beautiful farm land is going under.
That was the farmers best crop when he sold that land for that project
Only thing I care about is comfort. You can always tell a farm owner, that actually works his own land, they are driving John Deere.
I like them thanks for the video
Are the track systems from versatile I know the diffs are I saw the versatile logo in them when I was working on one
How many acres is this project. On the video it looks huge, a little overkill for a city of under 15,000 people! And what is happening to the existing fields?
This is just my opinion, but it's a shame to see that farm ground going to waste when Rantoul has all that ground available from the old base
You're not alone with that opinion, and sadly it's happening everywhere. Put the houses and things on land not suitable for farming, please.
More people and less food....but the US has plenty of food to feed ourselves, the problem is we ship lots out to other countries!
@@farmcentralohio they don't make ground anymore
You can thank Democrats for that
@@vanilakung7563 your a idiot
How do the operators know how much soil to take off? Do the scrapers have some kind of laser levelling on them?
Non farmer and in the U.K.
Fun fact - Bob Geldof drove a self propelled scraper during the construction of the M25 motorway around London.
Back in the day, it was just done using surveying equipment and dudes holding sticks. These days, it's done with GPS augmentation that allows automatic depth of cut setting and automatic steering. In a modern tractor with a GPS system, the operator is essentially just there to keep an eye on things.
John Moyna is a genius
Looks like a heavily modified Challenger.
He just don’t see those versatiles working as hard as those John Deere’s do.
How does the longer wheelbase make itself more effective in this job?
Balances the tractor better. Tongue weights are over 20,000lbs probably closer to 30,000lbs.
Interesting, love the Versatile brand, surprised in the Ag versions they don't offer CAT/CAT, they use their transmissions, why not engines??? After Agco bought Challenger... duh... its no longer CAT!!! need to bring CAT power back to Ag.... they bailed on truck engines.... bailed on Ag Eq... WTF CAT, your reputation is impeccable... why did you bail on agriculture???
My father-in-law worked at CAT back when they first got into the Challenger ag tractors, & I think it was internally controversial because the ag market was viewed as too small for their attention if they couldn't get dominant share from JD & Case.
Is there any reason why you could Not use one of those MTS on a farm ??
I think I saw one of these MTS tractors at the Cat plant in Peoria Illinois and mistook it for a Challenger with four tracks. It was dark and couldn't really tell lol.
Shame all that farm land going to be lost to farming
Well every kid has to play every sport year round these days so cities see these investments as tourism economy...but I agree with you.
I don't understand the point of the MTS, what's the point of having a tractor that can only do one job while there are plenty others just as good and just as powerful?
Too bad you couldnt get the 745 and gooseneck 42 yard lgp scrapers on a video. They definitely move a lot of dirt at work.
4 Cat 657s would blow the tractors away in production
Seems like rough work for the tractors or? Never really seen this in norway
First thought was when did challenger start making articulated tracked tractor lol
I'm glad they didn't. The weakest most expensive parts on my challenger either say Massy Ferguson, or agco. The Cat parts of the tractor seem to hold up though. Lol
Mike do the MTS machines have larger planetaries? They look larger then the delta track.
I believe they are the same size but maybe different gear ratios.
Would truly love to see. Side by side tillage video of a 570 V, Deere, and IH. Weighted up the same and balanced about egual. Just wanna see how good they all 3 can run in same field, same ripper, same as same can get. I swear a V would take them with the planets outside and power to ground... and im a deere guy.
Deere all the way
Nor sure about there but in Arizona some of the best farm land in the entire United States is now under houses.
John Deere bangs hard when it shifts thats when the powder comes out of the tracks . Listen close
Like your videos on all equipment and such. Just not a fan of watching beautiful farm land go away for ever. They call it progress??
What was the white powder coming from the John Deere tracks?
Chris Winter: Talcum powder. The tractor could be new, or just the tracks. The talcum powder lubricates the tracks. In normal conditions dirt lubricates the tracks. Could also be that because it’s muddy there isn’t fine dirt being utilized so being cautious they put powder in the tracks
How come the green one pulls two and the yellow only pulls one?
The single pans are generally bigger than the doubles. also the single pans here have a wider width of cut. Even with the doubles they only fill one at a time.
The 2 smaller pans will load easier. But a big single is easier on the operator. Especially when you have to back into places.
Usually running the double pan pays more. 1$ over scale for prime mover in tandem.
Ryan Haack I was giving delta guys crap because the green was doing twice the pull .
@@adamkruskama8455 190hp bigger, so yeah, it should.
How many CY was the tandem Deere scrapers?
How do the two compare?
Those Deeres look about half the size of the MTS pans...so 15 cy each.
Those are 2412 jd pans so 24 yard heaped. Mts was 33 yard. The deere should be moving more dirt per cycle.
They need a bridge view pull dozer
Where was this at
Can you get one with a rear pto haha?
See you in ky
i reckon the C18 could pull 2 pans
Yes they could but the single pans are generally harder to pull. Bigger pan and a wider width of cut.
@@farmhandmike Many thanks for your videos. love them without the music. i watch the 55min grain harvest in colorado when i cant get sleep. God bless America and your family, son
Wow losing some more of our good American farmland for a sports complex very sad... 😢😢😢
Democrats
Which side of town was this on? I spent 5 1/2 years of my life in Rantoul.
On the west side close to the interstate.
no gps no lasers they got lots of yards to move with 3 rigs eyeballing it
I am sure there are GPS and lasers checking the work.
Typically the dozers run the 3d gps. As there is no tilt control on a scraper.
@@claterpillar1 we always run laser or gps on the pans
@@db-cd8hx I use gps on my scraper as well. But you can clearly see a cat D6N LGP with gps on it. And a scraper with gps isn't going to cut sharp slopes and water ways as nice a dozer.
I think them my got a ground speed of of like 30-35 MPH!?!?!
✌️✌️
To bad they had to destroy farm fields for kids to play.
Half a million dollar tractor doing that type of work is hard to watch.
Would it make you feel better if a 3/4 million Cat Scraper was doing the same job? lol Thinking isn't your strong-suit is it? The reason why companies are switching over to this way of doing things is because it's cheaper. If it was cheaper to run a dedicated scraper of the size needed for that project, they would have done it. These MTS units, and other tractors like them, also come with the added benefit of running a multitude of different implements. A Scraper can only do one thing. Same goes for traditional Dozers. The same job can be done quicker and cheaper by using a quad-track tractor with a blade on it, and that same tractor can switch functions and pull a scraper or grader with no problems.
H3R3T1C nice way to think about it
Why are we looking at that John Deere shit
Cat power
What a terrible waste of great farm ground.
Big Deere 4 track was spinning out and pushes the diff lock on when tracks are slipping out. Poor tractor. 🥲🥲.
