The Calchakis is a group of folk music Andean founded in France in 1960 by musician and painter Buenos Hector Miranda (Calchay) and his wife Ana Maria Miranda (huayta). They are considered as one of the most important groups folk of Latin America , with more than 40 record works to his credit.
In 1964, through the Chilean folklorist Violeta Parra , the group is presented to the record company Arion, seal with which they recorded their later albums. In 1969, the trio formed by Hector Miranda, Nicolas Pérez González and Gonzalo Reig, Chilean musician joins Sergio Arriagada and in 1970, the Argentine Rodolfo Dalera. In 1972 they interpreted the soundtrack of the movie State of Siege by Costa Gavras , composed by the Greek musician Mikis Theodorakis . 1
During its 50 years of existence, The Calchakis have taken their Latin American music for many scenarios in North America and Europe: the Olympia Theatre in Paris at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico; the Victoria Hall in Geneva to Lisner Auditorium in Washington ; the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen at the Monumental Theatre of Madrid .
At present the members of the group usually reside in France: Hector Miranda, founder of the group, his wife Ana Mª Miranda, and Pablo Urquiza.
