But there's a reason so many languages, that use the American version of Pokemon, use the Japanese version of Digimon(like German).

It’s a shame Digimon doesn’t have the same level of fame as Pokemon. It was the first anime I ever got into.
It may not have the same level of fame. But unlike Pokémon Bandai grew up with their audience. And overall it has more depth and character development than Pokémon.
They do have the same popularity in Japan but not in west

Idk if the Pokemon games are comparable since it follows a single formula. Imo, the Digimon games' good points are way better than Pokemon's but to each their own of course. Pokemon's the best tcg, but show and games go to Digimon for me.
Not anymore it’s games- digimon show-digimon card game- yugioh. The new Pokémon’s are worse and worse each year by the new digimon cyber sleuths are the best of all time in terms of gameplay quality and depth at levels pokemon has never dreamed of

Of course that is debatable. Digimon Cyber Sleuth is pretty darn fun game, and Pokémon Origins is an amazing anime.
And for the record, Digimon still is a thing in Japan; it is only not that popular in the US anymore.
The digimon world games are great too. Cyber sleuth was amazing though, I enjoyed the royal knights part
Origins wasn't that great to be honest. It's only good as a companion piece to the Gen 1 games. But on its own it's mediocre.
Origins would've been good if we got more episodes. Maybe even something like Digimon Adventure Tri where they have 4 episodes per season and then they take a break
Digimon Adventure tri. is a 6-part film series. Crunchyroll split each movie up and Toei Animation animated openings and endings just for Crunchyroll to stream it in an episodic format.
Anime movie series usually take one movie per year so what Digimon is doing is quite fast in comparison. Adventure tri. is officially the 7th Digimon series. Each movie is not a season.
In Pokemon you choose a Pokemon. In Digimon the Digimon chooses YOU!
Depends on what Digimon media you look to. In some, the human chooses a digimon, in others, the digimon chooses a human. And in some instances there are no humans.

As a kid the Digimon TV series resonated with me more and now that I'm grown up I realise it was because of the futuristic concepts it toyed with in terms of the digital world and technology. Story wise, it was definitely far superior and forward-thinking to Pokemon. I still own the Digimon movie on video and till this day the themes and concepts they came up with back then still blow me away.
Even the introduction of the new characters in season 2 was fantastic. Usually new character introductions can be a make or break for animated series but it turned out really well for DIgimon. It felt like the OGs were passing down the torch to their protiges, yet there was still a sense of togetherness and friendship between the olders and youngers.
Pokemon was superior in terms of video games and cards and although both franchises had cult-like fanbases, Pokemon's fanbase was definitely bigger. The first movie was great too and even though the episodes were the same, they were still fun to watch as a kid and literally EVERY child back then loved Pokemon.
Overall, both franchises were special memories of my childhood but Digimon will always be the winner for me!

b same. I first started on Pokémon anime way before divining but when I got into digimon the anime I loved it, I also like the pokemon anime but it’s not as good at all. All anyone see now is immortal ash on there. But the Pokémon games I loved them, a few digimon games I loved too. They both was my childhood.

Monster rancher was actually not that bad. I liked it as a kid.
Spawner24 It was interesting with the way one monster could absorb a dying (dead?) one and become a conglomerate of the two. That's about all I remember of it though.... That and that the kid somehow managed to roller skate on grass. 😕

Looking at the first season of the animes, Monster Rancher> Digimon>Pokemon.
Unfortunately Monster Ranchers got a disappointing second season, and then fell into oblivion.

But the original two Monster Rancher games kick both Digimon's and Pokémon's asses all the way to Mars (I owned some of the earliest incarnations of each: Pokémon Blue, the Digimon V-Pet 1.0, and Monster Rancher 2). MR2 was waaaaaaaay deeper than either of the others, with an extremely sophisticated simulation of what was it like to raise a champion pet, awesome 3D battles in real time, and monster types much, much cooler than either of the others.
Monster Rancher 4 is one of my favorite Ps2 games.

The people who call Digimon a Pokemon ripoff is like the people who call every mmo a clone of WoW. Absolutely bullshit. The only things both share the same: the "mon" at the name and the fact they have monsters, just that.
And they have the mechanic of evolution...
monsters whici are very similar ,the worlds are again very similar on how they work ,battles have a tone of similarities ,etc.

The known rules are:
Only one Digimon may be out of the Xros Loader while in the DigiQuartz. (standard singles Pokemon battle format seen in literally every Pokemon game by game freak 90% of the time.)
Hunters cannot hunt Digimon that are in the possession of another Hunter. (standard moral rule in all trainer Pokemon battles made by game freak.)

Stiora Bloodlotus I could not agree with Pokemon having awesome games. More consistent quality, but while Blue was my first RPG I owned I've played better RPGs. FFTactics was my second RPG and I can go back to that.

I haven't played Cyber Sleuth but I watched an in-depth review for it and I think I can agree with that. The story seemed engaging. Pokemon Sun and Moon's story was pretty good I think but Digimon seriously has upped their game in story.

Its Not the same and these are some differences. Yeah they can somehow be very similar but Im 100% sure none copied the other

Even as a child I recognised the strengths Digimon had over Pokemon: a plot that actually went sonewhere, characters that actually grew and changed, genuine drama and genuinely touching moments that impacted the show and its audience. It felt like an actual story with a purpose. I never watched another episode of Pokemon ever since then. To this very day, the first 4 Digimon shows hold a very special place in my heart whereas the only noteworthy thing Pokemon had was its kickass theme song...which is damning with faint praise if you think about it.
Even as a child I know Pokémon will always be better

Im working on an indie series that combines the best of both but cant figure out the capture system yet.
I thought of Cryogenics & even lassoing the creature but i want to make a system that A. Makes sense and B. Stays as far away from a Pokeball as possible, and C. Can be used against bigger and stronger Endgame creatures.

I think these two points were missed out:
- In Digimon, the characters actually grew up as time pass by
- In Pokemon, Ash is still 10 years old and apparently never grow up??
I watched both as a kid and I still re-watch both occasionally...
In fact sometimes Ash appears to regress i.e going from Hoenn to Unova and X and Y to Sun and Moon.
Digimon characters became adults Pokemon and still the same age
I've ALWAYS considered Pokemon and Digimon equal. I love both Animes and I enjoy playing both of their series games. And I agree it is sad that people won't give Digimon a chance due to it's similarities to Pokemon and trust me I know because I have friends who refuse to give Digimon a chance because they consider Digimon a rip-off even though I've constantly told them it's not. (I do have one friend who's a Pokemon fan that also likes Digimon)

They all had different ideas and goals for each story.
Pokemon : explore, catch monsters, earn the badges, be the champion, and at some point stop Team whatever from the thing
Digimon : explore, train your monster, kill the big bad whatever, try not to die.
Monster rancher: raise monsters, pay rent, buy food, train monsters, fight to get cash, occasionally you get to explore. Oh and your monsters die of old age, sickness, regular things.
Like Digimon, Monster Rancher deserves a comeback.

The digimon-tamagotchis came first, but the pokemon anime was before digimon, so that's why everybody thinks digimon copied pokemon, when it's more the other way around.
But actually, the first 'anything' with teenagers collecting monsters to battle with them were the Shin Megami Tensei videogames. But nobody copied nobody.
Also, both animes are classified as shounens I think, so they were meant for teenagers, not kids. (And digimon tamers with chiaki konaka is almost an adult anime).

the first digimon virtual pet was released june 26 1997, more than a year after the release of pokemon red and green, allmost 5 months after the first episode of the pokemon anime aired.

I actually enjoy pokemon more than digimon.Pokemon games made up my childhood
I personally prefer Digimon tbh, though Pokemon did make up a large chunk of my childhood (which was mostly because Pokemon merch was more easily accessible) to the point where when I was five I had a cream colored pet rat that I named Pikachu.

Anyone who says Digimon didn't have good games have obviously never played Digimon World. It can't even be compared to Pokemon because it was on the ps1, has amazing visuals for it's time. (Pre-rendered backgrounds) A huge world to explore and was brutally hard. It was a really good game with a lot of mystery surrounding it and it worked off of that tamagotchi roots.
You didn't control digimon you had to train them to listen to you, your digimon could die, use the washroom, be fed and how you took care of it influenced what it would digivolve into.
It's just a shame because it's sort of a hidden gem now. I can't even say it's better then Pokemon because it wasn't for a handheld device but it's had more of an impact on me then the Pokemon games did.

It depends on what you want: a happy adventure and to relax, go watch Pokemon. A nice story and character development (and cry a lot, let's admit that now) then go watch Digimon.

Digimon tamers was the best digimon anime, you can't change my mind
One thing I hate about most Pokemon fans is that they believe that Pokemon should be the monopoly of the Monster Taming genre. They believe that any game that revolves around taming monsters is a clone/rip-off of Pokemon and they bash it without even giving it a chance. Imagine if Mario fans did the same thing with any other platformer game that isn't Mario. Even now, there are Pokemon fans that still hate Yokai Watch (despite not trying it) all because they heard that Yokai Watch was more popular than Pokemon in Japan at one point. It's annoying to me, because I believe that there should be more variety in the genre not only because the idea of taming monsters is awesome but because it can improve the quality of Pokemon in the long run. But alas, to many Pokemon fans, Pokemon is the status quo and nothing else.

I like Digimon better than Pokemon for some of the reasons in this video.
1. There are more main characters. Ash needs to be put to the side for a while.
2. The story is deeper.
Also it because of the Villains. In Pokemon there nothing but a joke for the most part as there goals are either stupid,dumb as hell, or just boring and the rest are just alright there not great but not bad.
In Digimon the Villains actually feel like a threat and had personally. They had charm like hell I remember most of the Villains in Digimon which I can't say the same for Pokemon.
Lol there are so many animes where main characters are same throughout the whole series, like DB has goku, One piece has fluffy, bakugan has Dan, detective conan has Shinichi/conan, and others (need to do some research to find them) this anime are running for decades with same protagonist.

A pokemon is a pet. More often than not, a tool. If a character treated their pokemon like an object, they'd be portrayed negatively, but overall it'd be like "yeah some people are like that". They can be traded or set free, no sweat.
A digimon is a companion for life. A sentient being. You get ONE. There was (as far as I can recall), ONE CHARACTER that treated digimon like objects, and they were the main villain for the first half of a season before they snapped out of it.
If I had the choice, fuck YEAH I'd choose a digimon.
The games pretty much treat Digimon similar to Pokémon, get as many as you can bond with That's actually the difference between a chosen child and a tamer, tamers are like trainers, a mutual relationship with aim to make the mon stronger, a voluntary thing. Chosen children (Digidestined) have been arranged by higher forces and are mostly Adv-02-tri and Frontier thing

That would've been Ken in 02 while he was the Digimon Kaiser. Then he spent the rest of the season whining.
There were other times in which a Chosen Child treated their partner poorly. In one of the Adventure-era episodes, during the Etemon arc, Taichi tries to force Greymon to evolve. Oh, he does alright. Right into SkullGreymon and nearly kills them all. The characters in the (at least, Japanese. I've not watched the dub in 20 years) Digimon anime grow and change over time and we had two conflicting "leader" characters in Taichi and Yamato. Taichi was the more "charge ahead" leader, while Yamato was the "let's make a plan, first" sort of leader.
Still, I have to say, it irked me in Adventure 02 when Daisuke became the leader of the new Chosen Children instead of Takeru. He'd been through it before. He should have been the leader, and he was so epic. The best character in that season. Another thing that bugged me in 02 was the lost potential with The Dark Ocean. They could've gotten a whole arc out of that, but they pissed it away. It was infuriating to me at 12, and it's infuriating to me now.
The Japanese version also had some of the best opening themes I've ever heard in an anime geared towards kids (especially "Butterfly" and "Target").
(Sorry, I just really, really hate using the dub names for anything from that franchise. Also, sorry about the rant, I just really like the Japanese version of the anime for Adventure and Adventure 02 and I never get to talk about it)
Still, I like Pokemon better--strictly for the games. I really, really like to plan things out and work on complex strategies. EVs, IVs, chain-breeding--I love all that.

The funny thing about that was that Digimon debuted in the US before Pokemon did. Because the US had the Tamagotchi and Digimon V-Pets before Pokemon Stadium came to the US.

I like the second season for making combination evolution as the main thing but I absolutely love the third for taking a more serious tone and involving the real world more into its story and settings. Feels more of an immediate danger that digimon can suddenly appear and kill people in the real world. (their world not ours I mean)

1st (Adventure) is good (and adapted everything that digimon was at that moment like ass)
2nd (Adventure 02) is mediocre
3rd (Tamers) great anime and great adaptation
4th (Frontier) is like the 1st but with a new concept
5th (Savers (Data Squad in the dub) is a good shonen (and the dub sucks)
6th (Xros Wars) is good with another new concept (the dub is even worse)(i fucking love the OST from the original version)
7th (Universe: Appli Monsters) its really mediocre, but at least it have a completely new concept

Pokemon, are physical animals that exist for trainers to tame and well train.
Digimon are data, they are not physical they are programs with advanced AI.
Pokemon's evolutions are based around the concept of Metamorphosis, the idea of one thing evolving and changing into another, like a worm into a butterfly.
While Digimon's Digivolutions is stock Piling data until it becomes a new program, that's literally what happens when a digimon digivolves it builds up on the data it already had to become something different.
The reason they De-Digivolve and pokemon don't is because they Digimon looses the strength to sustain that Data which relies on not only the Digimon's base vitality but on the Digiestined's emotional strength as well.|

An alternate solution is to get a Vita TV, which will let you play Cyber Sleuth and Hacker's memory. And not only is the Vita TV stupid cheap nowadays ($60-$ 70 *at most*) but the Vita versions of CS and HM are cheaper than the PS4 versions. Gonna have to look online for a Vita TV, though.
Sadly it's a bit harder to get the Vita version of Next Order. You'd have to import it as the Vita version was never released in the US.

The games are also very unique with very different battle and raising styles from Pokemon and these styles can vary. Digimon World, Digimon World 3, and Digimon World Championship all play very different for example. While they all borrow from each other, changes and additions in gameplay pace and mechanics make them unique and fresh. I think Digimon's a very special franchise!

When I was a chald, Viewing Pokemon before Digimon, I was almost instantly against Digimon.... Until watching the first damn episode of Digimon! I was instantly falling more towards Digimon, more so for the show. I still loved Pokemon with a fiery passion! (At this time I was not annoyed with it only bein about Ash and pikachu) But Digimon had more characters and a lot more individuality due to that. It was something new to me, It still felt like Pokemon at the time somewhat but it was showing to be something far different the further the show went on.
Where as we had this one kid traveling around with 2 or 3 friends and 6 pets that he sends out to fight at the age of forever 10, There was a group of friends/strangers struggling to figure out to get out of this new world that they were sucked into. Meeting these creatures that were almost identical to each of their feelings. These little dudes practically mirrored their partners. I was learning quickly these shows were not to be compared.
This was something I learned more so after the og Digimon characters went from 7 to 8 main protagonists (Also each of their digimon) then went on to moving their two youngest characters with a new group of heroes on their next season. Where as we still has this same 10 year old kid who magically never ages due to the dark arts of marketing and was still trying to be the best? I mean at this time he DOES win a tournament finally! (Orange Island arc) But I later learn... that is not even canon! So ever since then, This ONE character that NEVER ages CONTINUES to fail. He wants to be the best but ALWAYS fails. The whole Rocky trope works only so long you know? Ha ha ha I mean they at least have him win some and keep it canon!
At first I WAS kinda angry that they were KINDA shoving the original 7 (Excluding TK.....8 if we wanna count Kari as one of the OGs..Which she is excluded too in that case ha ha!) from the story of Digimon to make way for these sorta mimic versions of them. I mean the leader wearing goggles?! COME ON! THAT IS TY's THING!!!! Ha ha tho I actually loved TK and Kari! Something about the youngest/presumed weakest characters end up being my favorite. I just want to see them overcome their would be weakness and become a stronger brighter character. The original digidestin were not even really gone. They served as sort of teachers to the new characters and still came in a few times to help. it was showing this did not revolve just around one marketable face! This was a HUGE team based ordeal. World wide even!

It was just Ash. Age 10... EVEN THO HE DID HAVE A BIRTHDAY! They reverted his age! Kept/KEEPING him 10 to this very day as he REPEATS his same mission... to be the very best. In more detail he is repeating due to competing in multiple gym battles EVERY time. 8 gyms in every series. They DO change it a bit by adding different events that the side characters mostly play in. Beauty contests and others alike. How ever the concept is all the same. Ash wants to earn 8 badges, which he does, To enter the region's pokemon tournament. He DOES enter them each time. Just he ALWAYS fails them. It is sad. I mean as a character to this point I do not like Ash. Tho he could have been given so much more! (Tho I MUST keep in mind this show is directed towards kids... so technically they are doing things by the books.... the books of manipulating the dipshit young brains!) Aside from the possible 2 or so new side characters Ash may get in a new season AND the additional monsters that join the pokedex, there is nothing new in the series. It is just sadly repeated. Where as the Mangas and Games follow different characters, Aside from remakes or sequels to original editions, This show follows one protagonist that does not age. I love the crap out of the mangas and games!
It is safe to say I love Digimon but I DO love pokemon as well! Much more so for the same reasons here! I love Pokemon but not so much the show. The manga and game series seems to grasp MUCH more story than the show EVER will. Digimon has some ok games in my opinion, More so I LOVE the Playstation 1 game, Digimon world! But their card game and such never interested me like Pokemon's. The show is what I wanted from Digimon! They were able to deliver me a story in their series!
So yah... I do not believe the two should be compared either! They are of completely two different works! If Pokemon followed the same path as their games and mangas, Excluding their specials that seem to not be canon, They'd be on the same table! If Digimon had a similarly well developed game franchise they could MAYBE be compared to Pokemon in the slightest. Alas they are of two different worlds. The digital and.... er... the pokemon world.. 2nd season of Digimon is little ripoff from the 1st, but since they share some quality from the 1st it's fine if they are try to frame the character in a certain way. And 2 season is too enough In my case, more would be little too boring
Congratulations for overcoming that hurdle! If you haven’t seen the Japanese version of digimon, might I suggest checking out just one episode? The original Japanese soundtracks are an amazing experience in itself, IMHO the english soundtracks are a crime against humanity because they overshadow the original soundtracks.
Specially when it gets all emotional and the digivice shines, then the guitar rift for “Brave Heart” starts playing.
I totally agree with the games, Just I was somewhat under a rock most my childhood. SNES and N64 were the only things I had until branching out and gettin a PS. (In other words I was given a Playstation for my bday) I sadly never got too into SEGA. I loved them just I figured if my friends had a SEGA I could just play with them and they can play nintendo at my place ha ha.
Yeah the second season was way more of a ripoff, Also I was not totally angry with it. I was more so teasing about the whole goggles thing ha ha. I was also just a bratty kid who didn't like change! So when these new guys came in, I kinda raged. Before knowing and loving the growth of the story and everything around it~! (This is maybe why I wasn't too angry when it was just Ash and Pikachu... for the first 2 or 3 seasons... then it got old!)
The music in both versions are something that is kinda nostalgic to me, Where as I did not watch all the Japanese episodes of Digimon (OR Pokemon) I did come across a friend who did watch some. We ended up watching Digimon Tri together and they mentioned the music bein played there coming from the original series. I was surprised really due to the insane difference in their music. I do enjoy the Western style music mainly cuz... I am a chald and can't get enough of "Oh~! Oh~! Oh Oh Oh~! Oh~! Oh~! Oh ohhhhh, HERE WE GO!" I found them to be like weak Power Ranger songs ha ha. But the deeper meaningful music clearly comes from the Japanese version.
Now something completely unrelated! DBZ! I LOVE their English OST! I just can not handle the Japanese DBZ OST! (I actually prefer the English version in general..) The heavier edgy music played in the Western one just fit the action scenes so much better. I also enjoyed that the Western voices did not all sound like children. Granted the DB series is to be taken extremely lightly as it is more comical. Which is maybe why they didn't go so heavy and edgy with the original music.

digimon had the way better anime, and (in germany) the opening theme was so freakin good. the charakters are emotional because they had to resemble emotions, and the digimon were epic.
In america pokemon theme is fukin ICONIC compared to digimon theme, god honestly the digimon theme is anoying as hell and i honestly fell out of watching it, just didnt stick and gave me a headache. pokemon was Awesome though but even then i still stopped after indigo, i just grew up lol
Just for the record. This doesn't do digimon justice, any major digimon fan will recognize that right away. Digimon games have a major advantage over Pokemon games for one thing, If you don't know that then your missing one of the best things about digimon: each digimon has infinite potential and possibilities for digivolution, you can't truly appreciate digimon unless you've explored the routes. And for the record, not that I'm not a fan of Pokemon, but mega evolution is totally a digimon rip off. Though not a very good one. Again, not that I don't like Pokemon, it just pissess me off that everyone goes gaga over Pokemon but doesn't give digimon a chance even though digimon is clearly better in all fields, no contest. Pokemon doesn't even consider the feelings of their fans unlike digimon who brought back the original digidestends, Pokemon actually replaces characters you love and their games are all more or less the same. With digimon even if you beat a game just training the digimon is enough because their possibilitys are nearly infinite. You can even degenerate them to digivice them into something else. They have personality and they talk to you. I like Pokemon but it's no match for my love of digimon.
Played a good amount of Digimon games and the Digimon cartoon is better. Doesn't stand a chance against the pokemon games, the pokemon games have a surprising amount of depth and strategies you can apply against other players online.

Pull that sentence out of your ass, lol. Plenty of youtubers who battle online, as well as others who do. Plenty of websites dedicated to pokemon battling. Don't really give a shit about catching them all, its not really the point anymore, its all about having fun in the main story, breeding and making teams online.
Point taken, but the Pokemon game story lines have gone considerably down hill
I think the best thing about Digimon games is they have more freedom to experiment with ideas as a result of their lesser notoriety. I mean Pokemon has only just recently got its own fighting game for example, but Digimon has had several already. Name a genre besides turnbased RPG that Pokemon has done as a spin off and often Digimon would have beaten them to it.
Still waiting the day when they'll make a game or even an anime crossover between the two. I mean, even Sonic and Mario, the most iconic game characters and past rivals had a game with the two franchises together, why not Digimon and Pokémon can also have one?
I could not agree more. Digimon was like a cholds soap opera. All ways getting better always changing and always moving on the the next generation. My favorite was the series that had the children turn into the digimon. Pokemon sun and moon really helped give pokemon the refresh it needed and I'll always love it but I still want to go back and rewatch digimon again.
