Hi Clint, thank you for this. I too am a fan of LW. I used to love listening to it, in the dead of night back in the day. There used to be many LW stations back in the USSR. They were popular with students of Russian language and politics. Incidentally, I have found the old Sangean ATS 909 to be very sensitive on long wave. I was able to get clear reception of Denmarks Radio on 243khz. Ok its not dx, but it is a station that can be quite difficult to pick up here. 73s
Hi there Jim, I hope you're well. I fiond the older radios are nearly always better performers on LW. not sure why other than the band was way more important back in the day than it is now and so more thought went into that aspect of the design. Keep safe Sir. 73s, Clint
@@OxfordShortwaveLog Hi Clint, thank you for your kind comments. I think that the LW band was more popular way back because one powerful TX on LW, up to 2000kw!, could cover an entire continent and enable people to keep in touch with their homeland, particularly those on the road or at sea. Ok, the audio wasn't great but people weren't so fussy as long as they could keep in touch. Its interesting to note the the UK keeps its LW station going for this purpose too. I don't believe the fairy tale that Droitwich, 198khz uses a diminishing stock of output valves and once they are finished that's it. 73s
D. shortwave The number of radio stations broadcasting on the long wave has been decreasing. In our region, I know two stations that stopped broadcasting Algerian radio, and our Moroccan radio station stopped in 2017, unfortunately.
Grew up with 198 khz or as they used to refer to 1500m, I think before 198khz it was 200khz . First it was Radio 2 and my dear mother listening to David Hamilton and Wagoners Walk ruclips.net/video/c2HK2J5Tc0s/видео.html in Co Cork Ireland in the early 70's. Then Radio 4 moved on to LW. Radio made a big impression on me as young boy in Ireland with only one offical radio channel. Thank you Clint. ON8EI John.
Hi John, yes my Mum used to have a radio on the window sill in the living room and I used to listen to it at night in wonder at all the strange voices in foreign languages! That was the start of radio for me! Keep safe Sir and 73s, Clint
Thanks for this and all your other videos. I notice in some you have a flat connector going under a closed patio door linking your radios to your antennas in the garden. Could you put a link to where you obtained these? Many thanks.
Great all europe longwave radio. Lovely !! Albert. The netherlands
Thank you very much Albert! Keep safe Sir. 73s, Clint

We had some very local electrical strikes here in Cornwall this morning at 0121.(21 May)
Yes - I keep taps on them via the internet! 73s, Clint
Me too I like long wave my favorite band unfortunately rarely used and may disappear soon😥
why do u think it disappear ?
It costs a lot of money in power to keep these relatively high power ground-wave stations running. A real shame in my opinion. 73s, Clint

The station on 153 is Antena Satelor broadcasting from Brasov, Romania. 73s, Clint
@@OxfordShortwaveLog Thanks a lot.
I never catch it 🙂
Ah I'm very tempted to get an R75. Is LW good at rejecting my local 60db absolute radio relay on 1197 though I wonder...
They are brilliant radios - and I've never heard MW images on LW using mine...73s, Clint

I bought them from Bonito - I don't have a link - but you can also get them on Amazon. 73s, Clint
How much are Icom R75s going for now?
Not sure - I paid £375 for mine maybe 3 years ago? Good luck and 73s, Clint
Hi Clint, please can you tell me which lightening tracking software you use? Steve
Hi Steve lightningmaps.org ....brilliant site! 73s, Clint
I am guessing this is using your Wellbook loop? Where is it located?
Indeed Richard. I have two and they are both at the bottom of the garden. 73s, Clint
