I have the 56mm and i dont regret it! Only negative is you have to stand pretty far away from your subject. Aside of that, it just does amazing! Stills and Video
That's the issue with 56mm lenses. I had the viltrox 56mm on my Fuji and it was a mission to take portraits indoors unless the room was wide. Outdoors it was incredible though. That's why I personally think a 30mm or a 35mm is perfect for portraits because if you're in a tight space, you don't have to go far back
The SIGMA 56 1.4 is my go to for both inside and outside portraits. I also like the Sony 85 as well. You are right when you say it's about preference. I also have the TAMRON 17 -70mm F/2.8 Di III-A to cover all focal points.
Hey I am in a similar situation like you. I own the Tamron 17-70 F2.8 and the sony F1.8 35mm Do you feel like getting the 56mm f1.4 would be a waste or a nice addition to my kit?
Which lens is better for low light for my zve10 Sigma 56mm f1.4 APSC Or Sony 50mm f1.8 Full Frame Even Sigma f1.4 but Sony f1.8 is Full Frame And full frame is better for low light Yes zve10 is apsc but I'm still a little confused if a full frame lens is going to be better in low light Because sigma's f1.4 full frame equivalent is f2.8 or something But Sony 50mm is designed for full frame So I think it's maybe better in low light even on a apsc camera ?
Great video! I have the 56mm and I love it. But I want a little wider lens and I'm considering the 30mm. How sharp is the 30mm compared to the 56mm? I couldn't tell sharpness difference from your video.
Bro, could you advise? I like shooting full body video (of myself jump roping), and want a good bokeh, but I'm afraid the 30mm, even at 1.4 will probably give close to no-bokeh, if I require the full body shot. In that case, is the 56mm the choice to go for?
Depends on where you plan to shoot your videos. If your background is far away, even the 30mm will produce background blur. The 56mm will get you shallower DOF for sure, but If you shoot in tighter spaces, the 56mm might not get you full body shots (you need a lot of working distance with the 56)
30mm F1.4 vs 56mm F1.4 for newborn baby photos? I already have the Sigma 18-50 which has me using it all the time. I already have the 30mm prime but haven't used it since getting the sigma zoom.
The iris opening (which is related to DOF) on the Sigma 56mm at f1.4 is 40mm, while on the Sony at 55mm f2.8 is 19.6mm. So quite a bit of difference in terms of background blur. In terms of sharpness, they’re similar. The question is: do you primarily shoot portraits? If yes, then the Sigma is a good addition. If you only shoot portraits once in a while, and would rather spend time finding a nicer background than spend money on another lens, then the zoom lens is enough. If money is not an issue, get the Sigma. It’s a good lens.. very good.
Hi Olver! Thank you for interesting videos. Which lenses would you prefer Sigma 56mm F/1.4 or Sony E 50mm f/1.8 OSS ? Both lenses have a same price but Sony 50mm have optical steady shot system.

I went with the Samyang/Rokinon 85mm f1.4 for the awesome bokeh on portraits. I’m picking up a 30mm f1.4 for my A6400 because it’s basically a nifty 50 with it’s cropped sensor.
I’m a beginner photographer and I’ll be shooting a Christmas event outdoors for free at a block party (Santa pics with the family)… I only have a Sigma 16mm and a Tamron 70-180 so I’m looking to purchase a more ideal focal length lens for portraits. Do you think the 30mm would be best for this scenario? Im nervous how far back I’d have to stand with the 56mm to get everything in frame…any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!
We are looking to get a new lens for our Sony a6400. We use it for filming snowmobile videos etc and we’re torn on getting a 30mm or 56mm. It will be used with a Dji rsc2 pro gimbal. Anyone have any recommendations?
Oliver Hello, I found myself just smiling throughout your whole video. Man you have a real camera presents! You could do TV or movies with some acting lessons I am sure! I liked the video too, thanks for the information. I just ordered the A1 to go with my A7C. You making videos, good luck and cheers.
I have two Viltrox lenses, but one stopped working after only 7 weeks and the company does not want to honor their warranty. Stay away from this company.
Are you using Sony 55-210mm? If you are, you need to make sure you’re shooting with plenty of light to get the ISO lower. That lens only opens up to f6.3 on the long end, so it’s quite a challenge to keep the ISO low while still maintaining a reasonable shutter speed. Also, make sure you choose the highest setting for image quality, and set the high ISO noise reduction if you’re shooting jpegs.
Hey Oliver! That was a really interesting comparison! Can you make us another comparison video? I think the Sigma 30mm F/1.4 vs Sony FE 35 F/1.8 battle would be a great content because the FE 35 is closer the nifty fifty's on FF than the Sigma 30mm. Maybe the beloved Sony FE 35 F/1.8 is better choise than the sigma because it has a DMR (dust and moisture-resistant), af/mf sw and a one programable button. What do you think? Keep up the good work!!!
I'm getting both lol! I already have the sigma 16mm. 1.4 for my Olympus camera but I have the 56mm Sigma for my Sony A6000. Just missing the 30mm and I'll be good.
Same here! I got the 16mm and 56mm sigma, amazing lenses but I'm missing the spectrum between so I just ordered my 30mm. 16mm is to wide and awkward to take portraits indoor and 56cm is too narrow. 30mm will be amazing.

Sigma 56mm f1.4 APSC
Or
Sony 50mm f1.8 Full Frame
Even Sigma f1.4 but Sony f1.8 is Full Frame

Yes zve10 is apsc but I'm still a little confused if a full frame lens is going to be better in low light
