When I ordered my first bass, the vendor made an error and sent me a 5 string of the model I ordered, not the 4. They said I could keep it, so I did. I sold that one a long time ago, but I LOVE having the 5 string in the arsenal.
Nice one Tim!! I think getting beyond personal idealism and prejudices is part of maturing as an individual. I see a lot of discussions on the "Bass Player" pages about pick vs fingers, effects vs no effects, etc., etc... If people enjoy the music, there is no "wrong" way to play, no "wrong instrument. Just my thought!!! I love where the Apeiron has gone, in terms of evolution. Keep Rocking!!!
Great news to hear stringjoy will have flats soon! I'm not a string snob but they have great customer service and it's so convenient to choose your own gauges.
I overcame limited string selection by using a tune-o-matic bridge with stop tailpiece mounted further away from the bridge than normal, so I can use any 34 inch strings. Granted my bass body had room for it to fir, but you are the master of your workshop!
Can't wait for Stringjoy to start making flats. I've been a big fan since I found out about them through one of your videos a few years back, and I'd never buy any other strings ever again if they made good flats for guitar.
I've run into a similar issue with the E and B strings on shorter scale instruments. I find that if you unwrap part of the top winding, the remaining core will bend and fit into the tuner. Of course you have to be careful that the winding doesn't unravel. I've tried crimping, super glue and epoxy to prevent this this. In most cases it's not an issue. Some strings are work better for this than other. I tend to use D'Addario Chromes. Hope this helps. Keep up the good work.
Yea, I've heard they're cool like that. Stringjoy said they would make it for me but are busy with the holiday so it would have to wait, and they are adding it to inventory soon...
This has great SUSTAIN❤ love the finish Love 6 string bass Fantastic magnetic wood easy plate removal reinstall You keep getting better building producing and playing
Love that doom metal sounding riff at the end. I kinda wish I knew more musicians, I think a 3-piece heavy band could sound really cool with one guitar and a bass in this tuning range covering the low end and bits of where a second guitar would normally go.
I've seen a few acts in the "modern jazz trio" genre where the bass becomes more of the lead instrument and the guitar is free to do more ethereal layering and coloring. It also has the range so all three instruments can "swap jobs" more frequently and interestingly. However I think a lot of players can do this on 4 strings, too...
1,473rd looky-loo view from a lurker in The Peanut Gallery. Not that you cannot overcome the additional stress & structural integrity of the 2 extra strings; but more than 5 just 'seems' to be excessive. I once saw a 4-course electric bass where each course was 3 strings - like a piano - thus 12 strings. The thing was HEAVY!! While it maybe 'looked cool' - it didn't seem practical or worth the effort. Your mileage may vary. :0/ Got big, strong hands?!
That can be done! I can't list every option like that on the build your own ApeironBass.com website, but using that format we can customize even further.
Delano makes triple buckers? Or are you talking about the Hybrid? I have one in my main bass, which is coincidentally also called Apeiron, but made by Clover 😅- I love it!
II pretty much only play metal, and a 5-string bass is really the starting point. There are obviously plenty of metal bassists doing just fine with 4, but the vaaaast majority of metal bassists are out there with 5-strings. Many have gone to 6, but not many past that. I like a 6-string, but I think 5 is more comfortable. Playing a 4-string now I feel uncomfortably constrained. That's a cool bass Tim. But I feel like it really wants black hardware.
I do black hardware upon request but I'm not a fan because it gets chipped, dull and crappy looking real fast, y'know? I also find it to be inferior and not move as smoothly or work as well, probably due to the coating.
Hey Tim what's this Aperion Bass? I don't think I've heard you talk about it before 🤣 Seriously though, this looks awesome, I love it! I do play 6 string bass a bit, love my Ibanez BTB, but it's 35" scale, so it's freaking huge. I wish you were local so I could try this 32"- I have a couple 4 strings in 32" scale and really like them. I like that scale so much I've started building a couple for myself with a few more planned.
I did one like that, and it can be done, but that is definitely a custom order and higher price range beyond the "build your own" site at ApeironBass.com
I didn't write to them directly yet and they do sell 34" wound strings (vs 38" as regular/long) SO I could probably find something, but I wasn't. I did find after wrapping this video LaBella makes a set in tapewound and regular/unwrapped that I ordered and am excited to try.
Awesome to see your progress and success! I also recently designed a bass that breaks some rules (or rather my friend designed a pickup system that breaks the rules). Most parts are there, so we will soon start building it. I can't wait to hold the bass in my hands!
Dammit I was going to ask "where's the 7 string?" and you threw that comment in at the end. So instead I'll ask "Where's the 24 string/8 course version?"

woah. did they send you the 4 you ordered, too?
That was very kind of them, they could so easily have asked you to send one string back.
A cool addition to the Apeiron family. Sonds and look great! Thanks for sharing!
Sounds even better than it looks!!
Looks awesome def Cliff Burton vibe with that playing sample.

I shed all those pics/active vs passive/effects, etc., biases decades ago, but the extra strings took me longer :)

7:04 Wow, that is gorgeous
Nice one Tim ,thanks.
I admire your thinking a great deal. This bass is a beautiful instrument.
cheers!

Kallium is the spot for niche bass strings Tim! Might have great success reaching out to them, they've legit made sizes for me before in the past!
Yea, I've heard they're cool like that. Stringjoy said they would make it for me but are busy with the holiday so it would have to wait, and they are adding it to inventory soon...

Man...trhat is an awesome bass family...HOTCHA!

A Delano triple bucker pup would rock this bass out

An 8-string would be awesome, but strung in octaves...
Very sweet

What!?! No 3 string model!?! (Tony levin glare)

It feels pretty "right" to me, and I mostly played a 42" scale upright...
When will you be doing a 12 string? :)
Now how about in a 5 or 6 string multi scale versions?
I did one like that, and it can be done, but that is definitely a custom order and higher price range beyond the "build your own" site at ApeironBass.com
kanye would sample that 12:45
DR doesn't have a proper set for this scale?
I didn't write to them directly yet and they do sell 34" wound strings (vs 38" as regular/long) SO I could probably find something, but I wasn't. I did find after wrapping this video LaBella makes a set in tapewound and regular/unwrapped that I ordered and am excited to try.

Construction begins with the receipt of your substantial security deposit :)
@@timsway LOL!!!
You must hate Elwood's 17 string bass huh? lol
