      it all depends on terrain weather and hills, the number they use is on top of a large hill transmitting down to the bottom of that hill in perfect weather and nothing in the way.

      and the fact he did not tell you your radio is under a rule from the F C C that
      it can only have a half a watt transmitter you broke up at two miles.

      rules for F R S from the F C C. there is the right answer my radio's work
      the same way as these

      @@donalderickson-si8ww I thought FCC says FRS can do 2 watts. That's why I just bought the Radioddity Fs-t1 instead of these, for the same price I get 1.5W at least.

    you totley miss the bus on that one rugged radio buildes radios for off road any thing
    i ware my radio on my belt ear phone to ear mike butten is on the handle bar where is your's
    the radio is rated at 5 watts out put

      I agree with you I Owen 3 H T's and a 45watt base radio for home

    Keep in mind, those GMRS, MURS, FLIRS, BLURZ and all those type of radios is "Line of Sight" whatever separates you two is dissabling the signal, if they were AM, USB or LSB the signal uses the Ionisphere to propagate its signal.
    What lake is that you guys are visiting?, does it have RV campsights? If so, that lake might be a Army Corps of Engineers funded campground???

      It is lake Aquabi, it does have rv camp sites but it's being redone. I know all those higher frequencies are line of sight. I think there was interference out there as well from an unknown source.

      is a hole nother radio systum all together

      any family service radio only worked at two miles I am on G M R S and do20 miles as my radios can talk to 6 repeter's here in town
