Have to feel bad for kids when stuff like this happens too, since they miss out on getting fun new stuff they're excited about just because the scalpers / etc want to make a few extra bucks like you said 😢
That's true, people want the easy way out and to make a quick buck without thinking about it consequences for others. I mean, look at the world as we know it. Baby boomers set is up for economic and environmental failure. "Children are the future" until it inconveniences somebody. 😂
😿 another thing the internet ruined i feel, with the easily available options to either check/get info if a retailer gotten stock be it physical ones or online made this way to viable, esp during 2020-2023 and now we are in a new age of "everything is an investment"
Yes, great point. I didn't really touch on "poke investors" but they are part of the issue. I did quickly talk about the people with tonnes of cases of product towards the end, and they are certainly treating the hobby like the stock market
Thanks for addressing the gambling aspect of pokemon tcg. I think a lot of people look the other way when it comes to that, which I find troubling. Particularly for a product that is primarily marketed to children 😅
I think it's very important to touch on, especially due to the target demographic. (Even thought Reddit would have you believe the average buyer is 33 with a fedora collection) There are so many subtle and not so subtle practices which are constantly being added to the TCG to drive gambing... but ultimately collecting a TCG is and always will be a gamble. Some people choose to be in denial.
