Man. You inspire me. It's awesome to see how even if something is going bad, you're always in a good mood and pointing out the positives. Dont change man. Love watching the channel. Keep it up
I drove a Chevy truck for 28 years straight, my daily driver, 1.5 million miles, The only time it saw a tow truck was in Virginia Beach when I was in the military; there was a Tow to Go program for service members needing a ride from a bar or club if they ended up drinking too much. That truck was an absolute dependable, reliable, vehicle. Maybe thats why I still drive a Chevy.
You have a great attitude Austin Ross. That is one of the main reasons I watch your channel. I know a lot of people that would have been POed with a broken down truck.
Guys all vehicles that don’t have lock in hubs will have bad bearing problems. This is common with all brands. My suggestion if you’re buying a 4wd vehicle get it with lock in hubs if you can. The bearings last much longer with the lock in hubs
I live vicariously through you guys! Funny thing is my second welding rig was the black 2013 tradesmen with 6 speed in the ground. Keep em coming! Blessings! I tried to order a ball cap!! All sold out...
You can field fix a wheel hub or the knuckle u joint pretty quick! Get the wheel off, 2 bolts to get the caliper off, 32mm to get the axle nut off, 4 bolts holding the hub and bearing on. Owning a dodge I've done it about 8 or 9 times. Be careful with the abs plug not to break it as it's a pia to disconnect on 4th gen trucks. Shouldn't take more than 2 hours.
When my truck starts making noises like that I just roll my windows up and turn my music up and if any lights start blinking on my dash I just move my gf Polaroid picture over and cover them up
Railroad guy here. I use to have AAA +RV. I blew out my transfer case up in Wyoming. They sent out a tow truck & towed my truck & RV into town. The driver was nice enough to pull my Unit into a RV Park & then go drop off my truck at the dealer. We switched to Good Sam because it's cheaper & a few more benefits. After one tow, it pays for itself. Highly recommend getting AAA or Good Sam.
Roadside Assistance? Young Grasshopper you've got so much to learn. Lol! Glad you were safe. Roadside Assistance will do towing, battery jumping, tire changing and get you out of a jam if you lock your keys in the vehicle. I've got 3 daughters and roadside assistance has saved my hide many of times. God Bless you and just keep swinging.
You know, we had AAA for years and never used it then cancelled and...... we are highly considering re-upping. I'm spoiled around the house because of my dad.
Find yourself a good mechanic at the homestead who'll give the truck a very thorough look over and perform preventative maintenance for you before you hit the road. Back when I was putting nearly 80k/year on my vehicle, that's exactly what I did and never once had a break down. You and I both know, break downs are no fun plus lost time on the job which equals lost pay/revenue. Love the vids man, keep it up!
You need AAA I pay 100 per year I get 4 tows up to 100 miles, 2 lock outs and fuel drop of 5 gallons. It's the plus membership. I can tow anyone's car as long as I'm there 100 miles free of charge
Bad wheel bearing, A.B.S. sensor will throw a code sometimes, noise will change when you're driving down the road, and turn the wheel slightly left or right.
Southern Outdoor Boyz his truck doesn’t have lock in hubs. I’ve noticed with a 4wd vehicles the ones without lock in hubs have bearing problems a whole lot sooner than the trucks with the lock in hubs. I’ve noticed this with all brands
Another reason to have your own welding shop at home, work out of it, manufacturing your own products for market. I wish I had known the better choice many years ago when I was welding pipe and plate offshore.
Man tough luck it’s times like this having that money saved for repairs is a must. We have progressive insurance and get three towls per 6 month period within 15 mile radius. It’s awesome for when the rig takes a poop.
If you have towing with your insurance company I have had good service from mine when my wife locked her keys in my truck, the locksmith was at my home in a matter of minutes. Sometimes in life it is good to have more than one option. Good luck Austin, you will go far in life.
Get an extra set of unit bearings and tools to change them out or get a Dynatrac Freespin kit installed with Warn locking hubs. They are expense but serviceable and you can get the bearings and seals everywhere. When unit bearings quit they quit right there. Changing unit bearings is not much harder than doing a brake job.
There is or was a problem with Dodge fwd trucks front axles, had a friend that had just bought a brand new 3/4 tom pickup truck, and while we were on a bear hunting trip in Ontario Canada and going back to the area were were assigned to hunt, he had to go into fwd to get over a 8 inch tree that fell across the road, the front end made a loud crack sound and the front wheel stopped pulling and once he shifted into reverse, the entire front differential exploded, had to calla tow truck and he was stuck in Canada for over 2 weeks until the dodge dealer up there got the needed parts shipped in and installed. While he was waiting for the repair he was told thatwas a major problem with Dodge front differentials, he traded that truck in for a new Chevrolet, and good thing he did as the person that bought the Dodge had the same problem about a week after it was traded for the Chevy.
Get yourself a AAA card. After a year you can upgrade to a 3x a year 200 mile tow. You can also upgrade to a RV tow. I have Mercury Ins but carry the upgraded AAA card. Well worth the money. They’ll even come out and open your house.
I'm a carpenter. My truck broke down yesterday and I gotta get it fixed so I can get back to work. I know how you feel. Hate when I can't get work done
Sounds like front end dodge's are notorious for front end problems...get a Ford you'll be happier...great videos all and all... awesome info... keep up the great detail and work...best of luck
I thought anytime you buy a Ram they give you a list of towing companies. I know GM products come with the tailgate warmers so your hands don't get cold pushing them.
Hahah I laughed out loud when you said the only thing we got going is plenty of coffee hahaha you always say that but at that point... damn hard to appreciate coffee at that point
Those straight and smooth West Virginia roads are rough on a vehicle, hahaha Also, in most rural areas, look up the non emergency number for 911 center, usually awesome about getting a wrecker quick
Man I know the feeling of having the truck broke down, my trucks engine just blew, so I’m out of work until I get a new engine in, it sucks not having your work truck up and running
Natito I blew part of the block off the engine in my Toyota 4Runner I used to have. I supercharged the motor and pushed it hard. The first time I blew part of the block up I welded it back together and drove it for a while. I then blew it up again (not in the same place surprisingly) and welded it back together and drove it for 2 years then bought a new motor for it and put the motor in and sold the car. It was one tough car and I had to weld the block back together because it was my only source of transportation
I plan on doing that on my channel in the future. I'm always thinking and changing my mind about one thing or another. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll make sure to make a video like that.
Hay austin. I know its an old vid but who does your insurance for roadside. I have a f350 cab n chassis flatbed and aaa rv plus doesnt want to tow my trk claiming because having the bed with some stuff on it. I called a company myself and they were like yeah we can tow it no problem. Didnt need a tow just a service call since my shift linkage broke so he crawled underneath and shifted once i had it running and made it to moms so i could fix it. Aaa reimbursed but the hassle
The shop you dropped your truck off at does my inspections lol. Didn’t realize how close you were to me. Was the tow truck drivers name Joey by any chance? Sounded like one of my buddies dad
About how long does it take to be normalized with welding in general, like familiar with everything I guess? Comfortable. But for beginners that have never weld before. Going to a school
Sorry to be mean. Should be embarrassed. The truck making noise for a couple weeks. It's the most important tool ahead of the welder, the camper, the RUclips channel. If pipelining isn't just a hobby or your main source of income.
having three trailers. I learned that you have to have towing/roadside on the trailer too or you pay. If you have horses like us then you have to get another plan from u.s. riders to get your horses off the freeway. lol.
Get AAA I have the RV premuim they will tow your RV and Truck for $15 month you get three 100 mile tows for your truck and rv and one 200 mile tow. For both you and your wife. So a total of 8 tows for $15 a month.
my question, cheap bearings? or good quality? not worked on any of those, but many times you can get several grades of bearings. just like ball joints.
Hello Austin new sub here! I have a question for ya...I've been watching some of your other videos on yalls other channel and you have talked about leaving your truck at point and you and your helper gets hauled in by the personnel carrier to make welds on the right always. Now my question...don't you have to have your truck in the right aways to make those welds in the ditch?? How do you make a weld if you leave your rig at a parking point??
Bummer on the truck. But don't you know you have to feed the goat some hay now and then. Just kidding hope everything works out for you. No matter how things are going you all ways have a good outlook on life God bless. And have a good one
You have a wheel bearing shot. It's going ti be an all day job fir them to get it done but it's the whole assembly so it will take care of your abs as well. Good luck love the videos and keep up the great work
It’s a common problem for unit bearings to crap the bed. Yours was bad enough the brake rotor was holding the wheel straight. You’re lucky you live in an area where you don’t have rust. I’ve had to take a 20 pound sledge hammer to beat the living piss out of the old hub to get it off the steering knuckle.
My bed is showing a lot of wear since I mostly work up here where they put salt down. I try to wash it often enough, but half the time I can't find a car wash open in the winter up here. It's hard on vehicles for sure.
Austin and Kayla road salt is nasty stuff just be glad you don’t live on the East Coast where they lay the road salt on the road 6 inches thick. You’re poor Dodge would be shot.
If you own any equipment be ready to have to do repairs. I spend half my time maintaining my stuff so as to be able to use it the other half of the time. Even then do not expect it to be good. Keeping a smile on my face and a good attitude in my heart is sometimes difficult when tested by mechanical things. But so it has been for me the last 68 years. Just gotta laugh at it.

Not on commerical vechiles no aaa for commercial vechiles
centsless fabrication
Check your insurance, I dropped AAA’s because my insurance has everything in it my 3-A’s had.
Yep so worth it. Don't tell them it's a commerical. Technically, it's not if you use it for personal use as well.
@Kevin Knox his truck isn't commercial
Bad wheel bearing, A.B.S. sensor will throw a code sometimes, noise will change when you're driving down the road, and turn the wheel slightly left or right.
Austin, with all hwy driving you do, you should look into a “free spin” locking hub kit.

Kidding aside everything breaks

I bet it is the hub/bearing assembly. It also contains the ABS sensor. Have you driven a F350 with a 6.4 Diesel? 😉
Austin when I was traveling I always made sure the AAA plus card was up to date
Hey Austin this is crazy but I'm Rodney's helper and my name is Devin! We are up here in SD right now!
That’s awesome! I hope it’s cooler up there than it is here in Oklahoma! Haha

Just so you know ...next time you get towed ..that heavy of a truck...2 chains off the rear ...at least 1 safety chain off the front ...👍👍👍

You're very lucky that rear left hub didn't break loose especially if you got spacers. Not very good. Hope it all got fixed

Triple AAA is the best roadside insurance, they will send a wrecker up to 200 miles to get to you. $120.00 a year for this wonderful insurance.
Wheel bearing is bad knock prolly hitting hub if so possibly inner arm as well
Wheel bearing are easy to do if you have all the tools.
Insurance (some) also have the free windshield and the free battery.
Hadn't heard of that. We will have to look into it. Thanks.
U pasted my house lol hope everything goes good with ur truck that’s a good place to go there fast
When bearing hub well at least it's not a expensive repair
Man keep up the good work
Gotta love wheel bearing! I’m on my six one in my Dodge!
What year is it?
It’s a old one 2002 I believe they fixed some of Dodges front end issues around 2013.
@@ryantheentrepreneur4040 I think so. This is a 13. Luckily, I've steered clear of the death wobble so far. 🤞
@@AustinandKayla death wobble is a broken steering stabilizer. Had it happen to my 07 powerstroke. Violent as all get out.

im just going to say my DD makes a noise and im already looking for what that noise is.
I did the locking hub conversion on mine for that exact reason
Was going to suggest that both bearings be changed, sounds like the fixer got his sh*t together...
Yes, try to do a little preventative while someone was already working on it.
I know what the problem is..you need to buy a 2020 superduty..over 500 horse..can tow over 36000..what a beast..

Hub bearing or axle bearing
Sounds like a Dodge ram 😂
Those wheel bearings will leave you on the side of the road every time
You came thru shinnston
That dodge gets towed more than any vehicle I've ever seen! Lol
eeeasy!
They all break it don't matter what they are parts ware out it's nature of the beast.
ford nut trucks without the lock in hubs have bearing problems way sooner than the trucks that do. Just saying

I drink eight o clock brand

Your truck looks naked without the welder!
I know it! 🙈
It’s the hub assembly

Just a FYI on the towing on the insurance I have heard they classify that as a clam just FYI. I do not know if that is true.
Thank you for the heads up. We will have to ask to know for the future.
Wheel bearing or cv axle .... shooting towards the wheel bearing tho for sure
Front ends in dodges don’t go together

None of them make a perfect one but I think dodge definitely has the worst front ends. But you know, Cummins.
