I attended Bret Harte and was supposed to go to Washington High but was lucky enough to get bused (I had several death threats, like a lot of people). I know a lot of America just can't understand how delicate threading through our system can be. They don't believe certain road blocks exist. Why some make it and some don't. I listen and talk to as many police as I can end most of them (of many races) don't get it.
A lot of cops become institutionalized by the day-to-day chaos of their work; not that it's an excuse to mistreat and discriminate against people facing the obstacles you describe. Many cops just become desensitized toward the people they're supposed to serve and protect. I know several black and Hispanic cops and correctional officers who grew up in the hood and they despise lower-income blacks. My thing is that they chose to go into law enforcement - they weren't recruited or forced; yet, once they become "true blue" they go into survival mode. Not all, because there are some decent cops, but even still, they become trapped behind the blue wall.

Aren't these projects now mainly Latino with a bit of Asian? I guess African-Americans are just outside more often, I know a lot of these neighborhoods have a lot of Latinos but just judging by the people walking around you wouldn't know that.
i remember reading a statistic a couple years ago saying the the Pueblos projects are only about a third black now. Most residents are Latinos and a small number of Cambodians left over from the 80s when they left Pol Pots death camps in Cambodia. However, I believe that many Cambodians have since moved to Long Beach which has the largest Cambodian population in the country

Aren't these projects now mainly Latino with a bit of Asian? I guess African-Americans are just outside more often, I know a lot of these neighborhoods have a lot of Latinos but just judging by the people walking around you wouldn't know that.
i remember reading a statistic a couple years ago saying the the Pueblos projects are only about a third black now. Most residents are Latinos and a small number of Cambodians left over from the 80s when they left Pol Pots death camps in Cambodia. However, I believe that many Cambodians have since moved to Long Beach which has the largest Cambodian population in the country
