Always such a joy to listen to Dr. Gulati speak. So much to learn from him always, whether they be his videos or articles. Can almost feel the frustration in his voice here trying to rally the same points to people for the last 20 years and it still falling on deaf ears.
One of the best discussion, I love hearing Ashok Gulati Sir. He speaks from heart and put a lot of sense. The decision for the future are never easy as it is not certain, needs planning, investment and risk. Just appeasing the current situation is symbol of weakness. Lets change for the greater good and save our future.

Poultry, dairy and other animals raised for food depend on feed raised by farmers, who as mentioned in the interview, do not get anything. This man will never mention the massive subsidy to corporates in terms of almost free land and loans which they are excused from paying back.
Dr Gulati clearly has a solid macro-economic understanding of the challenges of the Indian farmer. That said I think he has a limited perspective on the design of an MSP. This is understandable, given our Govt's history (for many decades) of bungling good ideas with flawed design and execution.
What I think is that we need to diversify the PDS, state by state, to provide people with basic rations including more valuable produce such as vegetables, dairy, eggs, and meat. We shouldn't buy more than needed, the presence of PDS procurement will act as a price-setter (if MSP is provided). Private procurement can still happen, and in scarcity years prices will go up (good for farmers, and current methods can be considered if prices get too high).

अगर किसानोंको खुदकुशी/गरीबी से बचना है तो उसको खुद को बदलना पड़ेगा ही, उसके अलावा दूसरा चारा नहीं हैं.

This year the subsidy government pays farmers in wheat should go down. In fact it will profit as today international wheat prices are higher than the MSP
dude, our govt don't allow farmers to sell wheat even in different states, let alone internationally.
Govt agar paddy aur wheat ke ialava baaki cheejo pe bhi msp compulsory kre to farmers doosre crops bhi paida krege...lekin govt khud nhi chahti esa
We need to change our food basket.
Why not ensuring msp for oilseeds and pulses ie to the extent it is required in India. Discourage purchase of paddy slowly like first auction of oilseeds and pulses and paddy at the last. Now we have full data about the ownership of lands and allot acreage of paddy from a farmer and similar acreage of pulses/oilseeds. This work can be done by the agri department but should be done before sowing of crops .

Poultry cannot be given as an example to promote privatisation of trade because it is supported by technology which is imported and not from State Agricultural Universities. I feel Research and Development is the spoiler.

Great interview
Increase in international wheat prices is GOOD news for India and its farmers. With Russia offering to sell us oil at 35$ discount to international prices the petrol price in India should come down.
60$ was the max estimate for crude oil in the current budget now the prices are gone up 90$-120$ even if Russia give discount of 35$ it will still very high this is simple economics but now integrate economy and international politics and then the conclusion will be that buying Russian oil will not going to benefit our nation
