The actual reason that they had spike in a “magical amnesia”, is because they didn’t have the full rights to all the G4 characters, so it’s less MYM’s fault and more Hasbro’s fault

G5 has made me regret misjudging G4 for many years even more. It wasn’t until season eight began for FiM that I started watching the show and I fell in love with it. Despite the red flags A New Generation showed, I was still very excited for what seemed to be a bright future. But it wasn’t. It wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t connected to G4 and was just a self contained failure. But nope. It just had to destroy a show that earned its legacy unlike this train wreck. Lots of fans of G5 have been telling me “You just need to let G4 go.”
But I would rather stick with a show that respected its audience and their intelligence.

Heck, there were more coherent references to G1 than G4 throughout all of Make Your Mark, so you'd think it was G1's future instead of G4's.

@@autumbreeze1129 hmm. I’m not sure about G5 referencing G1 more but other than that, absolutely. They should’ve hired G4 fans who are also writers to write G5 when they decided to make it connected to G4 as they would understand the continuity from G4. When writing my G4 fanfic, I always make sure not to mess the continuity up, because that’s part of making a successful story.

G5 has a lot of great potential when the movie dropped, but after watching the entirety of Make Your Mark, it’s just really sad that all of the great concepts go to waste. There are a few good moments that makes it enjoyable, but everything else is just a mess. Chapter 6 is truly a wild ride.
The fact fanfic writers are able to do much better and respectful adaptations really shows how far G5 fell
Honestly if G5 had just been it’s own thing with its own set up lore and world building,instead of just piggybacking off the success of Friendship is Magic I might have given G5 a chance. Also I still think that Izzy should have been the one to have been the alicorn not Sunny. Izzy was the one who started out trying to be friends with all the other ponies.
I wouldn't mind it being in the same universe as G4 if it didn't rely on it as much and maybe extended some not much used concepts from it in an interesting way.
@@LittleDevilAkuma Thats a fair point. But what I would have liked is if the story wasn’t all over the place. If they would’ve just stuck with one idea at a time and saw it all the way through first it would’ve been better. They had way too many ideas that they were trying to do all at once and in some cases retconned a lot of previously established lore that it fell apart.

She seemed like she wasn’t all that smart at times either. Her reason for wanting all the magic wasn’t made very clear either. Apart from wanting to rule over every pony, what was her reason for becoming evil? I haven’t seen the show mostly because I don’t have Netflix I’ve only seen clips of the show.
Piggyback? I sorta thought of it as lasso-tying themselves to G4's leg to drag themselves with them.
Though at this point, they're more comparable to being a parasite on them.
The problem is that G5's worldbuilding is completely inconsistent with what G4 left for it. At this point just make a new world and canon, we'll excuse it.
When I saw the part where Opaline tried to talk Misty into joining her again, It gave me major "Mother Knows Best" reprise vibes. Hell the face that Opaline made in the thumbnail just screams "Don't be a dummy, Come with mommy" at least to me it does.
I can tell you saw one of those animations that have Opaline with Gothel’s voice.

I think they got a new writer for Secrets of Starlight. It felt more...idk...competent?? than the past 6 chapters. It felt more organized and cohesive rather than the scatterbrained, half-baked chapters we're used to watching.
SOS wasn't "good" per say, but objectively a step up in actually having a solid story that makes at least SOME sense. Hopefully that step up remains a constant
The writer of Secrets of Starlight wasn't exactly new. She joined the writing crew on Chapter 4.

Considering this is probably the last of Make Your Mark and the only thing going forward is Tell your Tale (which has a totally different writing team completely separate from MYMs team), I doubt it’s going to get any better, is only down hill from here.

Was hoping the show could have shown Opaline 'true power' to give a sense of danger when she got all the cutie marks. But, no, let's sing a song in the end to overpower her

You wanna know why, despite Opaline getting all the Cutie Marks, I wasn't worried?
Not because of the obvious fact the good guys would win... but because nopony had any negative reaction to losing their mark other than fear or sadness.
In season 5, it was made quite clear, when Starlight was removing Cutie Marks, it HURT!
Twilight and the Mane 6 seemed to be genuinely in either pain or severe discomfort as their Marks were being removed.
Yet, in G5, it's not even a problem. They come off as easily and painlessly as a water tattoo.
As for the locket part? I thought this show took place in the same universe as G4, not G1!
You can't have it both ways, Make Your Mark. Pick an MLP generation you want to bastardize and stick with it!
Hay, there's been more coherent references to G1 than G4 throughout all of Make Your Mark, so why didn't they just stick with being in the same universe as G1?
I'd actually think that would add way more depth and meaning to the show than being connected to G4 has been.
As for Secrets of Starlight, I'm even more underwhelmed than I thought I'd be, and that's saying something.
Is it supposed to be the new version of the Crystal Empire?
Logically, doubt it. Nothing looks even close aside from being near snow and the crystal ascetic of the horns... not to mention it would make NO SENSE that the future version of the Crystal Empire is in another world that needs a portal to get there!
Then again, the Dragon Lands weren't a separate island nor lush with tropical vegetation in G4, so why should I be the least bit surprised if G5 decided to completely alter everything about the Crystal Empire too?
Ember's absence and not being the Dragon Lord is a HUGE plot hole as, unless Opaline killed Ember before Twilight sent Spike to go with the dragons, it makes no sense why Spike is the Dragon Lord and was even before Twilight’s somehow Dumber than we originally thought possible plan was put into motion.
At least G5 proper isn't making Discord an old fart who CAN use magic, but isn't doing anything with it, like, I dunno, PUNISH Opaline for ruining everything he'd have held dear!
Please read this and don't skip, how is this for a storyline to g5 as a sequel, plz give me a chance and like.
After Twilight's rule, Equestria was in peace. Opaline, a young unicorn interested in magic and idolizes Celestia and Luna wanted to grow as strong as them. She was envy of Twilight and believed she could've been a much more amazing predecessor than Twilight. So she studied magic to be as powerful as Celestia and Luna. Locked up in her home, desperate to grow power for recognition came across on her books the stories of Tirek, Queen Chrysalis, and Cozy Glow of how they stole magic from Creatures and Equestria and grew intrigued. She studied for years. As not a filly but a grown mare, she realized no one has stole magic from the dragons in Equestria. So she would be the first, to turn herself into a fire alicorn. Same way as Cozy turned into an alicorn from Grogar's bell, she would be a fire alicorn. So she snuck out, gaining magic talent from study and practice she had huge magic potential and was strong enough to invade the dragon lands. Living in a time of piece, the dragons let their guard down and Opaline stole most of the dragon's fire. Amber, the dragon Lord, files a complaint to Spike, the ambesedor to the dragons. Filled with rage of a pony betraying the trust between dragons and ponies it would mean war. Twilight apologizes and plans to fix this mess.
Twilight studies the library and asks her friends to research a way to restore the dragon's fire. She or one of the mane 6 (spike included) comes across a book explaining some relic, that with enough magic can create a source of magic for any creature. Twilight used her alicorn magic to make it a dragon stone to restore the dragon's fire from the drained dragons with the help of dragon Lord Ember and the remaining dragon's fire. With her trust slowly fading, amber grew a bit mistrustful, but agreed to keep the peace.
Twilight wanted to find out more about this pony putting a threat to the piece and punish her.
Deep in the everfree forest, a safe place is stored Queen Chrysalis, Tirek amd Cozy. Twilight check's on them and sees them still as stone. Opaline mysteriously followed twilight, sneaking amd using a camaflouge spell finally saw Twilight's secret place containing the villains. After Twilight checked and left, Opaline tried to release them from the stone spell but couldn't, she needed to grow stronger.
She needed to become an alicorn. Figuring that Alicorns are Earth Pony, Pegasus amd unicorn magic into one pony needed to grow strong. Bts, she stole most pony's magic and with enough time with the dragon's magic she stole gained the power of an alicorn. She went back and freed the three. Not wanting Twilight to find out she created a copy statue of the three so that if Twilight came back she wouldn't find out about the mean three being free.
Opaline explained her motives to them and Opaline wanted them to team up. Chrysalis asked what would it be for them. They said they could rule wherever they want, and Twilight won't be in the way. Ao they agreed. The were working discreetly bts planning to gain power. Twilight as a ruler receiving letters of complaint from all ponies being sick amd week asked the best unicorns and healers with the best healer Meadowbrook as a leader found no cure for the sickness. Star Swearl came by to help. Using his magic he felt the essence of the ponies being weak. Twilight went back to the Everfree forest checked for the mean three to see if they were. But still found the statue fine.
Twilight with the most population about to die wanted to restore their magic back.
Out of the tree of Harmony. Which during season 9 became a crystal treehouse from the new representatives of the elements of Harmony (Yona, and all the others, forgot their names) Used it's magic to create the unity crystals, each one restoring the magic of All pony kinds, one for the Earth ponys, pegasus and unicorn. All the ponies were healed.
Twilight wanted to investigate more of the creatures magic dissapearing. She went back to the dragon lands as to ask about the pony that stole the magic. The dragons didn't see her clearly, only a purple unicorn with a black robe.
Twilight asked the mane 6 to lookout for the pony in the description amd inform the ponies. Chrysalis disguised as a pony heard the news, warned the others and asked the others to be more careful. Since they can no longer steal from the ponies they needed to get to the unity crystals since all the magic is there and needed to infiltrate Canterlot Castle, the location of the crystals. To distract the mane 7 the spread rumours amd caused disharmony, not kust among pony kinds, but around all creatures, creating more havoc. Twilight distracted at the issue gives opportunity to the villians. With (that griffon kid who's a guard) spotted someone infiltrating, fought. Blowing their cover they still win amd absorb the magic of the crystals powering all of them up (same form as season 9 ending of the end).
The windigos return and Twilight feels the magic lessening and with Spike heads back to Canterlot to find the villians there. Spike sends a message to the mane 6 and leaves the kids to resolve this conflict. They battle along with Discord the villians.
Twilight is left with Opaline to battle. Shocked with seeing am alicorn, Twilight is surprised. She tells her backstory and the tale of how she bacame an alicorn. They duel.
Star Swirl apperantly sent a letter to the old rulers who retired in need of their assistance. They join Twilight and together defeat Opaline, and banish her in what lead to her castle alone in g5 with the invisible bubble around Equestria with Twilight in hope of Opaline being reformed but she never was. With Equestria falling apart and magic gone, the creatures lost hope amd believed what is to stop another disaster from happening, the ponies believed that if they keep the crystal they will be safe, so with conflict that led to the separation of all the tribes, all pony kind left seperate leading to the creation of Zephyr Hights, Maretime Bay and Bridlewood. Twilight devastated because magic was gone and Ponies seperated, used herself as sacrifice, as the princess of friendship with her friends sacrificed themselves with their power of friendship to rid the windigos and try to create some aort of peace. Sadly Twilight being an alicorn survived the sacrifice but the others didn't. Even with thay didn't fix the destruction caused. Canterlot, ponyville and all the pony lands became abandoned.
Twilight Sparkle, the princess of friendship with no friends, grieved. She realized with magic gone she would need to sacrifice herself. As the princess of friendship representing the element of magic, sacrificed herself to help function the rising and setting of the sun and moon amd the weather. Since magic was gone, Cloudsdale was also destoyed and fell apart.
As for Queen Chrysalis, Tirek, and Cozy Glow, they found places to rule.
Queen Chrysalis ruled the crystal empire gaining love from the crystal ponies and the crystal heart, using Cadance the princess of love and her daughter to power it for her and her subjects to feed.
Tirek went back to rule his homeland to show the power he has gained to his father (read the comics of g4 to learn his back story). To show his magic potential they held him back from.
Cozy Glow manipulated her fake "ideal" of what friendship is on some random town, in aim of her "friendship is power" ideology.
The rest of the other creatures went into hiding
Mlp g5 explored the events and finds clues as to what happened to Equestria after uniting the pony kinds and restoring magic.
Dude, this storyline is too good for MLP G5. No wonder you’re not working for them.

Good story! But unfortunately it most likely isn’t canon at all as the team want to make G5’s ties to G4 as little effort as possible. Hasbro should’ve hired fans to write G5’s story instead.
G5 could have succeeded if they hadn’t tried to use G4 as a crutch. Doing that just messed up the story of G5 so badly. I get they were worried about trying to make another generation after the crazy success of G4 but they just didn’t even try. Also didn’t help they were lazy with the characters, story and designs. And also doesn’t help they don’t even have the full copyright for the G4 characters so they shouldn’t have even tried to shoehorn G4 in.
My one greatest fear is that now that Misty's arc with Opaline is complete is that the writers will have no idea what to do with her.
It happened with Twilight's Alicorn accension, it happened with Diamond's redemption ( 🙏s for Spoony), it happened with the CMC getting their marks, it happened with the return of The Pillars, it happened in this generation again with Sunny unlocking godmode after one quest.
The writers of MYM totally botched Misty's story as a double agent. Maybe the TYT writers knew they couldn't do that story line propper and thats why that cartoon Misty ghosted Opaline all together. 🤔
So, the odds are not in her favor. 😔
Worst case scenario: they make a gen 5 spin off series where they're all babies
Gen 5s worst sin is what they did to Gen4.
We left Gen 4 to live their much-deserved happily ever after, and G5 just @$@#$# on it and gave them the apocalypse.

When I rewatch that scene where Sunny said ‘Because I have hope, and I have friendship” I just felt like she said that because she didn’t want to admit she is powerless and defeated 😂 HELL, even Opaline’s face when she said that feels like “You’re gonna feed me with the bull***t when I could just kill you” kind of vibe.

[Theory]: Spike is protecting a SECRET stash of dragon eggs (that he has not revealed to the ponies or the other younger dragons).
-> In the worst case scenario [Spike's death, imprisoment or banishment]; Leaf will become their future Dragonlord (assuming those hatch & that the Isle of Scaly is left alone).
From what I heard all around the comment sections of G5 reviews, Hasbro simply didn't have the rights for its own characters anymore, and instead of negotiating with the copyright owners, it simply half-assed it to lure in old fans but still cater to their original children demographic. This new generation ain't for us, it never was! But Hasbro of course still wanted us older fans to keep watching despite not thinking to entertain us. It may be a children's show, but it's us adults that got Twilight and Spike jingled in front of our noses like keys to keep us watching and feed Hasbro's pockers. We got bamboozled!
Well it wasn’t the first time Hasbro screwed us over, these are the same assholes that lied about Grogar and ruined Discord’s character development, destroyed a beloved community and ruined Lauren Faust’s vision!

I think you're being too harsh on Opaline being pure villain. You named four villains and only gave two examples that went beyond "lol, take over the world". Because in truth, the other villains all have that same reason.
Discord wanted to take over Equestria because he wanted to spread chaos.
Chrysalis wanted to take over Equestria to feed her people (until she didn't)
Sombra was just evil (and thank goodness for Season 9)
Tirek just wanted power.
Cozy Glow just wanted to rule.
The Sirens wanted to be adored and not have to work ever again.
The Storm King was there.
Not every villain needs to be redeemable. Some are better for it. And Opaline I feel fits right up there with these irredeemable guys.
My bigger problem is that if a villain gets this much screen time these days, they don't necessarily even need much motivation, but they at least need some good lore. Opaline should have been our window into the world of Skyros. I mean, G4 implies fairly frequently that Alicorn magic (/united magic from the three races) has a propensity towards evil if not tempered by friendship, with both demonic transformations in EqG and when Twilight was instructed to use explicitly alicorn magic by Zecora.
Imagine if Alicorn culture as a whole actually was supremacist, and Nightmare Moon was recontextualized (in part) as Luna feeling alone in a new land, and reaching back to her native culture?
Its pretty twisted, but super relevant today when people are getting so easily radicalized when they're desperate for a sense of belonging.
Or maybe they're not like that at all, and there's some whole gimmick about every alicorn having some special element. Perhaps its totally typical for abstract concept Alicorns, like for love and friendship, to have to ascend, because they aren't pre-existing things, like fire or stars?
Imagine if she had been forcing Misty to study all about Alicorns so as to glorify her impending reign, but it gave the audience some juicy lore content that they could have put in some kind of journal and used in fighting Opaline after the little unicorn switched sides?
Throw g5 in Tatarus and continue with g6 you could restart entirely or make a spin off with the creatures from Twilights school or go in the past to clover the clever or take some of the Equestria at war Lore.
The only thing I liked about secrets of starlight was when they went through the wormhole/magical doorway/what the heck is that door and found themselves in a snowy land which made me hope that they were gonna bring back the crystal empire and that a descendant of starlight and maybe a descendant of princess cadence and shining armor were gonna invite them to the crystal empire and have lots of cliffhangers and big plot of the story but noooooooooo, nevermind, crystal empire? Hahahaahahaha what’s that! Pshhhhhhh nooo we’re gonna bring a new villain called allura such a fascinating name and character! What with all the mish mash of griffin and snow leapord and drag queens in her character! Hahahahahahaahahahaa this is great 🫠
Title is just for show.
There's aspects of the G4-G5 connections that still have me curious, like Sunny's buttons- which would have a weird bias, but in the concept art for G5, Twi was an Earth Pony, Flutters was a Unicorn, and Dash was still a Pegasus. We can still see it with the roles of Sunny, Misty, and Zipp. If they own the Mane 6 and Spike, why is Twilight the only addressed pony? How was Discord allowed in the comics? And while I sense Starlight Ridge is likely a "coincidence to dodge legal stuff", they could have named the special "Secrets of Starlight Ridge".
Setting aside my thoughts of comparing Sparky to Emporio, something has me wonder if the planned/leaked route for G5, of rebooting the looks and species while maintaining names and some dynamics of G4, would have skirted around this issue.
The problem is that people were so used to overly-complex villains, that people can’t just accept that their can’t just be a “villain”, a over-the-top villain who is irredeemable, it’s starting to feel more like the fan base is overly critical because it isn’t G4, it just feels like over-hate when G4 wasn’t perfect and it’s last two seasons arguably kind of sucked in its own right
I think there are ways to make "irredeemable over the top villains" in kids shows done right. Wordgirl has done it before, you don't need to be massively serialized or for an older-kids audience to do it right.

She can, but the problem that everyone criticizes is that Opaline is NOT threatening. She barely did anything until this chapter, so we're barely scared of her. She's pathetic. The only cool thing about her is her fire wings.
And it's too bad, an ancient alicorn villain is a really cool concept, just look at nightmare moon for example.
It's pretty telling that the remaining G4 analysts who continued discussing and reviewing G5 were all regarding it as a chore rather than a pleasure. Celebrating its end is not a good look for Make Your Mark.
Jack Horner from Puss in boots was evil for evil sake and everyone thinks he's one of the best baddies since the pre 2020s' MCU baddies. Is it possible we let our expectations for villain portrayals get so damn high that simple sucks? I certainly think so.
It's not a matter of complexity, it's a matter of execution. And Opaline has not shown herself worthy of being a genuine threat up until now. No build up means less satisfactory conclusion.
I love the second voice-over you did for Spike. That voice would have been great. Especially if he'd had that kind of attitude.
I agree there are problems, but I feel at this point MYM just had the cards stacked against them to the point where they had no chance to really succeed, and that’s honestly how it feels with all of G5, never really given a chance to succeed.
If you thought G5 was bad, then wait till you see Dragons Nine Realms. Trust me its way worse. Then how about a video comparing both Nine Realms and MLP G5 to see which is worst?
Even tho I want to keep myself fair to both audiences who love and dislike g5, I completely Agree with almost everything your saying
The discontinuity in TYT is another problem many have. "Nightmare Nightmarket" can't canonically happen within the timeline because Onyx still had her mark during Opaline's attack and "The rise and fall" ended up being a slightly different version of what actually happened. The other episodes either possibly happened after Ch. 6, like "Lavarinth" or before, "Misty moves in" possibly. I get TYT could be its own continuity but these two shows were originally coexisting in the same timeline so they clearly showed spoilers before Ch. 6 was finalized causing inconsistency.
Opaline as Dr. Weird is somehow fittingly strangely amazing.
There's honestly so much wrong with this chapter that even a 22 minute long video barely scratches the surface in terms of how many problems there are. You would need at least an hour to list them all. Probably much longer though.
My girlfriend and I were watching it together, and we actually had to rewind Spike's exposition dump probably 7 times over because both of us were so confused by it, and every time we re-watched it it somehow got worse.

Yeah, at least with FNAF, it feels like Scott is letting the theorists deal with any mistakes or contradictions, and he could just flow through that.
This show, on the other hoof, is very in-your-face with the contradictions & inaccuracies, and it'll probably give MatPat a heart attack.

Yeah, Lord Dominator (Wander Over Yonder) Opaline is definitely not. Not to mention has a better design and song about villainy to boot as well. As I've said before, you know you're a weak and generic villain when Gargamel from Smurfs have better character motivation of eating small blue people to gain magical powers than you.
Also, agreed that dragon designs are just awful as well and inconsistent with G4. The only thing about G5 I was interested in were in the rejected concept ideas that looked like it would've take place in a separate world without any ties to G4 whatsoever (which should've been done in the first place if Hasbro wasn't so incompetent and moronic). Of course, speaking of which, this crap wouldn't have happen in Hasbro didn't sold and ditched Boulder Media along with Imalou.
It's sad that some of the scrapped concepts looked more interesting than what we ended up getting.

I just realized that only the three races of ponies and dragons that Twilight gave the crystals to are the only races that survived. And they BARELY survived! There's only maybe a couple thousand ponies in three civilizations and 5 dragons minus Leafy so only 4 dragons and Sparky left... what the actual buck happened to all sentient life on the planet in less than 100yrs!? 🤔

The corrupted version of the sister from the main character's mentor, a demigod in their verse basically.
A literal omnipotent god with the personality of a twisted prankster.
Sombra, who just was interesting in the comics but those are their own continuity so, nope. All he had was an ominous presence.
A society of shapeshifting parasites that feast in love other beings have for each other.
Causing body replacements, manipulation and swarm invasions.
A literal DEMON that could steal essentially souls in ponyverse to become stronger.
And we had a fμck1ng DBZ level fight.
A manipulative smarter unicorn who could rival with an already mastered alicorn Twilight.
Who came back to mess up the whole timeline.
An even more manipulative filly who used racism to gain power, locked the Mane Six in PONY HELL and was working with SATAN.
I'm a 3D animated student graduate and it pains me so much G5 failed so spectacularly
It's just sad how nothing was really thought threw. Really, I hoped one day I could work on mlp. But... my hopes and dreams are crushed. Having an insight on 3D animation and cinema makes you really see each decision that was only marketing oriented, and as sad as it is for the show, each one of the decisions was. The textures, aesthetic, jobs of the mane 5, Sparky, Opaline, the new villain, the glitters... It's not that G5 is not enjoyable, or fun to watch for it's inteded public, it's not that nobody could like it, it's just that even if they go foward, what they are doing is lacking any sort of intention whatshowever. Also, G5 did not only rides on G4, oooh no. It's ridding on G1 too, with Posy, the lock, the singers... But it lack any understanding of why these have a cult following. I think Pip's gimmick sums it up best. It's a product made to buzz, an mlp version of a kid youtuber, trying so much to relate to young generation with eco smoothy, and tiktok, but also trying to reel in the fans, that are now parents with the g1 and g4 stuff. But it just fail. It lack any kind spirit. With it's ready to eat moral value, hasbro doesn't understand they are actually promoting Flim and Flam's approach to content.
And don't start me on the songs that are so pop generique lacking any real charm. Even the parody drizzle dazzle from G4 understood better how to do a good pop song.
With G5 I feel like i'm watching a bad barbie movie (and I love barbie movies for their cheesyness, so a bad one is a rarity in itself), or a bland disney channel show. It's hard letting go of G4 as some ask. Because it's accepting that our concern and wishes for the show to be the best we know it can be, are pointless. We should just let go of the love and hope we had for any future project, and let hasbro run the serie as they want it, just to sell products to kids.
But, the truth is, if I have any, I won't show them G5. I will watch G4 with them, and that's all. I'm not wasting their time with this, as I wasted mine.
OK, Opaline is lying. Her demonstration of her fire powers is pitiful. I bet Skros doesn't even exist and that she started out as a unicorn. I think she stole those wings, and I think Spike's statement that Opaline stole her fire magic from the dragons may be the one true thing about her background story.
Honestly, Misty defeating opening would’ve been quite interesting to me. It would be like a bad ass moment.
Here are villains better than Opaline that should've been in G5.
1. Beings from a higher plane of existence who want to eradicate Ponykind after deeming them failed creations.
2. A race of demonic creatures who conquered countless dimensions.
3. An alien race who wants to destroy the world's evil... by destroying the world.
4. A malevolent entity that abhors friendship and love and craves violence, suffering and hatred of all by cursing them into doing horrible and inhuman acts.
I hope if G5 ever continues through full-length eps, it'll either be the same team handling Tell Your Tale, or an entire soft reboot. TYT is fun and simple and matches the spirit of early FiM. A reboot with a team that actually cares about these ponies at the wheel and starting from where the movie left off, while unlikely, feels like a suitable fix for both young and old fans who had hopes for G5. Otherwise, here's hoping G6 at least tries to be good in its own right.

How could the writers forget this? Oh wait, they constantly forget magic was gone for 100yrs or so. Nevermind 🤔

Honestly, this chapter is where I have seen the most divisiveness over. I enjoyed it, though I do have my nitpicks.
You still have Tell Your Tale, which ironically became the flagship show.
Honestly I think this show would be better with 2 things 1 a better story and story writing, 2 separate from g4 because it adds nothing good or make sense to both this show and friendship is magic.
The fact fanfic writers are able to create better lore for G5 than the show itself is just sad

While make your mark chapter 6 had its problems, it still had good moments and even had a great way to wrap up the conflict with Opaline. For the record, while Sparky definitely played a major role in defeating Opaline, all of the ponies in equestria helped to stop Opaline in the end. The biggest disappointment was secrets of Starlight, which introduced more unnecessary villains that aren't as good as Opaline.
One thing you forgot to mention is that A. Opaline traveled to the Dragon Lands playset when she was supposed to be confined to her castle playset by Twilight's wards and B. Used powerful offensive magic to blast boulders when previously in TYT's Opaline Alone she did not have enough crackle and pop in her hoof to frighten an intruding raccoon-i-corn...

the whole chapter 6 reminds me of a paper that you just had to finish, so you get it over with. It's done and it hits all the points that was required of it, but ultimately is not great and seems uninspired.
Honestly, I imagine it like this (I doubt you’ll read it all though):
Imagine a kid trying to build a block tower, but he doesn’t know what to do because he doesn’t have enough blocks so he takes the blocks from another kids tower to make his bigger, and as he takes more blocks away, the other kid’s tower is slowly collapsing, only making it pointless for him to build in the first place.

Honestly when I finished the whole “Arc 1” I’ll call it. I thought of it as mid. But a very low teer mid. I liked the idea of it but it could have had SO much more! I don’t like the fact of how we don’t have more Equestria G5 world exploration. It doesn’t even seem that large, and the places that they go to don’t have much a population, not that G4 had that all the time, but that’s what made it interesting. How incredibly diverse these places are!

But in this new generation you don’t get to explore most of the places and only see the same places. You’ll only see a new place when it necessary. Which is like every other story, but at least in the original they went to many places and you felt like it was an actual world. But in this new generation it looks and feels so limited.

She also had such magic talent and overall stamina levels.
She managed to enhance a time travel spell to be whenever she wanted.
She managed to keep going back and forth with a mastered alicorn Twilight, while changing the past and coming back to the regular timeline each time she changed the past. Not being affected by the paradox she created.
Cozy Glow was like Starlight but worse and global scale by using racism and turning ones against the others, sealing the Mane Six in ponyhell.

No, it won't.
I mean the Dragon designs look fine to me but that is very surface level. This chapter doesn't have any filler which means they don't have a lot of time now to develop the characters TYT should flesh them out. Once again no filler means no time to flesh out stuff like the powers TYT should fix that. Spike is obviously going to sound different as an adult vs a child and normally child voices have a noticeably higher voice than most adults. I mean they didn't have filler episodes so no time to use Spike. He is likely there because he is in every generation of MLP. Spikes' haziness is an early warning sign of Opaline using the dragon stone. Spike might have gotten more development and interactions if there had been some filler in the middle. Seeing Opaline taking all the cutie marks and capturing the dragons would have just been redundant and gotten boring quickly. The established backstory on Opaline was supposed to establish that she has a twisted view where she wants power and anyone who gets in the way of that goal is just an enemy. The only G4 villains that had any deep motivation were redeemed the ones that weren't were just after power. What Spike meant by "she transformed into a fire alicorn" is that she transformed into an ultimate form of a fire alicorn. The crystal pieces were put in the care of trusted individuals but the unicorn one fell out due to chaos and the dragons still put their piece in a place where it was out of reach of everyone likely because they felt the oncoming hibernation. Opaline has been planning this for a long time so she likely knows things that the mane five do not. When Twilight cast the protection spell she had no way of knowing how magic would evolve over time. They are not telling anyone about Opaline because it would cause a panic and more chaos would make it harder to beat Opaline. They only knew about Opaline in chapter 5 and were very busy trying to gather as much information as possible. Spikes' plan involved stealth and only didn't work because Opaline caught them. They didn't show anything of what Zipp found in the library. The tree likely got big initially because her fake friendship with Misty caused a spark of growth but couldn't fully bloom because it wasn't genuine. The mane five were not going to give up without a fight and each showed off their unique skills but obviously didn't have enough power to stand up to Opaline. If Sunny had intervened it would have increased her chance of getting caught. The characters have to develop before the fight. A lot of what Twilight did as a leader is speeches. Misty is the only one who has a connection to Opaline. Opaline initiated the conversation. The blasts in G4 all look identical. There wasn't really any need for Opaline to show more power and doing so would likely destroy her castle. There probably wasn't any way to shut down the other protection spells without shutting down her own. Sunny didn't know how to use it. It shoots a rainbow out doesn't require much explanation. No one had any problem with G4 using random power to solve the problem. Sparky only released the magic in the dragon stone it was the unity magic that beat Opaline. Alura only has the same color scheme as Opaline otherwise she is completely different. I imagine they didn't tell anyone so that the location wouldn't fall into the wrong creature. I actually like Secrets of Starlight.

I watched TYT #70 again hoping I would see something better the second time. I don't know why I did that to myself. Posey as Allura is still the best thing in that episode. She was so good I gave it a like despite hating everything else. 🤔 I may need help.
I honestly disagree with you. I think that Chapter 6 is one of the best chapters in the entire series. First, I was entirely amazed on how they handled the dragons in The Isle of Scaly. First, I love how these dragons are much nicer than the ones in G4, I honestly think the G4 dragons are ugly, and Spike’s appearance completely shocked me. As for Roots of All Evil, it was the best two-parter in the entire series, beating out last chapter’s Family Trees by a long shot. As for Secrets of Starlight, the special was good, but I didn’t like the way it ended the series on a cliffhanger. One more thing, Tumble was the other dragon that did nothing in the final battle. As for the new characters, Like I mentioned earlier, I love the dragons, my favorite ones are Luxxe and Fountain. Violet Frost and Comet are interesting characters, with the latter being a great new member to the team.

The yellow dragon ( I don’t know how to spell her name) has similar magic to flurry heart And spike not remembering makes a little bit of sense because he was not really in any of the adventures. But shouldn’t he have the friendship journal or something so he could remember them? Spike’s exposition made some amount of sense and him not knowing that she had fire magic already.
My main problem with make your mark has something to do with their storytelling abilities like they just don't feel like they properly connect g5 to g4 like they originally did as they did that very poorly as even Princess Trixie Sparkle despite bring g4 fan made story thing has better writing but g5 is an okay show that I watched they failed poorly with their writing until we had some development for Misty in chapter 4

They should have used the voice of Ulysses (Roger Cross) from Fallout: New Vegas for Spike! Now that is a deep voice and a dark past!
On the plus side, voice acting is less flat and clearly reading scripts alone in a booth feeling like nobody knows how to talk beyond the basic mechanics and they actually seem to be getting some depth out of their rendering. Animation is getting a bit smoother too.
The whole thing has been underestimating of the audience and unsure if it wants to be its own thing or a continuation...... Can't say based on what the local WalMart has G5 is even succeeding in selling toys.
OMG it gets worse! SPIKE claims a spell of protection over Equestria so the writers put that in the script for the VA to read. BUT the animation shows the shield going up around Opaline specifically. So the animators and the writers are contradicting each other. This is fascinating 🤔

G5 could use someone like MA Larson as executive producer and main writer who would do an overhaul of entire G5 lore and focus on backstory and character development of main cast. Either something like that happen in TYT or we can only wait for G6

And...OBJECTION, Spike never specified WHEN Opaline became alicorn, she could have stolen the dragon powers when living in Skyros and getting her ass banished. Also, Opaline probably knew all this time where isles of scaly was, she even shows some dragons with her "magic ball" spell in prev chapters.

For me to not enjoy something pony-related, it has to be pretty bad. I rewatch G3 for fun, and I like Tales well enough. But this chapter was just painful. I have never cared so little about an MLP series. The previous chapter was actually pretty good, so why is this one so horrendous?
