    Hi, my name's Abi and I live in Japan. I love crafting, especially shrink plastic and resin projects! I first started crafting when I found a blog that made amazing food miniatures using only dollar store supplies! I was a poor high school student back then so it was perfect for me. I don't make clay miniatures as much anymore, but would love to get back into it soon! Please share any DIY projects you've been working on with me on any of my social media accounts! I try to reply to as much as I can ♡

    For anyone especially beginners I advise going on aliexpress. You can tons of resin supplies for 20$. Its absurd how much you can get. I buy all my craft supplies from aliexpress. Those silicone tools come in a 3 pack with mixing cup for $1 depending on which seller u buy from. It take 23 days to get to you and it's the same stuff youd buy for mega bux anywhere else. I'm not sponsored by or work for this company I just really believe in getting more for our money. The sellers you buy from in the states all by from China. With Aliexpress your cutting out that middle man and his cut

    One thing that should be mentioned is safety. Despite the claims & labels saying resin is "nontoxic", it is NOT. Use nonlatex gloves, don't touch uncured resin & don't breath in the fumes it creates while curing. Use fans & open windows- you really want to have good airflow & not breath this stuff, especially while it's curing. And if you're chemically sensitive, you may want to find another hobby. Resin can also cause chemical sensitivity, worsen allergies & autoimmune conditions.
    You also get a chemical respirator mask for working with organic chemical solvents or VOCs that will help protect you. An N95 mask doesn't do anything to protect you from chemicals.
    There's a group on FB called "Resin is Not Your Friend" that has a lot of people & their pets that have sustained injuries & illness from exposure to both UV resin & AB resin. But they also have a lot of really good suggestions & recommendations to help ensure safety to you & your loved ones & pets in the home.
    I'm not saying don't use it at all- just use common sense and be mindful about personal safety. ♡

    Is this resin toxic? I have heard you have to wear some kind of mask when using it. Is there some type of resin you can use without the mask? Or that is not toxic?

    • @puti614
      @puti614 4 года назад +21

      For this particular resin you don't need to wear a mask since it doesn't have any strong chemical fumes to it but for the one you are referring to which is epoxy resin you will need a mask since the fumes from the epoxy resin is strong and also gloves so you can avoid any contact with the skin. I hope this is helpful for you if you have any questions let me know😄

    • @captaineleni
      @captaineleni 2 года назад

      I just started using UV Resin, and my answer is Yes you need to wear a 3M Respirator mask and nitrile gloves. Normal masks only protect against particles in the air like dust, but Resin gives off invisible gas that gets into your lungs. A 3M Industrial mask with changeable filters from your local hardware store/on Amazon will protect your nose and lungs from allergies and harm caused by breathing in Resin. Also do your resin work with an open window so the gasses can escape. Use nitrile gloves so the resin doesn't get onto your skin, it can cause nasty itchy rashes. Safety glasses/safety goggles to protect your eyes too.
