@@RustyRoj Also one last question, on Amazon there seem to be many different versions of this lens that all look slightly different. I'm really confused on the differences between these and if one is better than the other
My one is the STM version which is the oldest. I don’t believe it’s in production any more. The new modes is the USM. They are optically the same so it really doesn’t matter which one you get. Arguably the USM is slightly better for video and the STM for photo due to the difference in how each focuses but it really marginal.
@@apcwjw We are in a short term lockdown right now too. I cant wait to get out and shoot again. Take care and stay safe. I look forward to seeing what you create.
Thanks. I was going to rent the Lens just for the video but decided the paper cut out would be a bit of a laugh, even if just for me. I have the Sigma 16mm as my only non Canon lens currently but I’m saving towards a Laowa I like the look of. The main reason I’ve stuck with the Canon lenses has been the cost. It’s easier to find them on special here than other brands.
@@iamkingriot it does recognise the lens and adjusts for white balance and the like as it is a native EF-M mount but it doesn’t correct for lens distortion. I generally like that though as sometimes I want the distortion for a specific look to my images and I also prefer to adjust it in post. Luminar 4 for example had a single check box than than adjust for lens distortion if needed. It does retain the distortion information in the metadata though so most editing software can accurately correct it in post.
I love my EF-S 18-135 but it really comes down to what you plan to shoot with in the future. If you plan to upgrade to full frame then maybe the 24-105 would be a better long term choice. Also the 18-135 won’t work properly with the speed booster. It just needs a regular adapter to work. Best of luck.
I tried them both in a store and I didn’t keep any of the shots since they were pretty boring. In hind sight I should have but I initially wasn’t thinking of making a video about it until someone asked.
@@Aviator168 because they are apsc lenses you don’t need a speed booster. You only need a speed booster for full frame lenses. To adapt efs lenses to the EFM mount you will still need an adapter though, just not a speed booster. The speed booster will work but you may have vignetting on the corners like using an apsc lenses of a full frame camera
@@RustyRoj Got it. One thing I don't get is why is Canon still producing -S version of the lens for RF mount since the crop factor still applies for APS-C sensors, except for cheaper and lower quality reasons. BTW. I use an old M3 camera. Except the kit lens, I only bought EF lenses.
@Aviator168 I guess in the end it’s just to provide more affordable lens options for those with apsc cameras. Even though it’s a false economy if you ever upgrade to full frame
It really depends what you want to upgrade to. If you’re looking to move to full frame then EF lenses are the way to go. They do cost more, so the EF-S is a more budget friendly option but if you use them on a full frame camera in future, you will get vignetting.
What? NZ is getting F'd on the price for the 18 -150. I just bought one for $499. Also, the Canon F's you on the price for their adapter. Viltrox sells one for just under $40.
What adapter are you using? If it’s a speed booster you will need to use EF lenses and not EF-S lenses. This is because the speed booster focuses the light inward to match the fov of a full frame sensor. This works well with full frame lenses like EF but if you use it with an aps-c lense like EF-S you will always get vignetting and the only solution is to crop it out in post. To get the most from EF-S lenses you need an adapter that isn’t a speed boost one.
Good video, NZ prices are crazy. I have M50 so more M mount lens the EFS lenses can even be taken to the RF mount with an adapter and the M mount will be doorstops, JK
Thank you for watching. Yes the Ef-s mount lenses have mostly been my go to because of this. The few M mount lenses I have are because they only have an m mount.
I thought my eyes were going for a moment, don't think the cutout will match the actual lens. 😂
I did my best to print it to scale 😂
Thank you so much! Was doing so much research on the difference between these two lenses, and your video really cleared it up :D
I’m happy I could help.

I bought an m6 mkii last month as an upgrade to my EOS M (which was an upgrade to an EOS500d), I went with a 35-135mm STM and I'm loving it.
Awsome. I know you’ll love the upgrade to M6 mark II.

Lovely vlog mate the paper cut out cracked me up lol
Have you ever tried non canon lenses by any Chance (sigma/tokina)?

Out of curiosity? does your canon recognise the sogma lens for distortion correction in camera ?

It was my pleasure.
This is the video I was searching. Will go for 18-135 EF-S I need to save money and gain image quality. Thanks a lot for such a great video.
Glad I could help. I hope you enjoy the lens and create something amazing 🤩
hi sir, what is your opinion for EF-S 18-135mm STM or EF 24-105 F4. i already have viltrox speedbooster for EF 50 F1.8. also I own M6 mark ii.

If they both set to 18mm, which one has wider angle?
They’re both APSC lenses so their fov is the same (within any manufacturing margin of error).
