All my burners run on meths. Nice video, by the way!

The original meths burners, I notice you don't have any of! I have 3 originals, all great!

I do have many originals, although not of all types, but they all work better than "commercially" available repro's I have.

I have just bought a fairly old predecessor to your SP1 with the boiler mounted cylinder, thinking its around 50's or 60's as its pre rivet boiler band but post solid disc flywheel. This is the first time I have touched one since the 80's and the engine is missing the safety valve and the spirit burner and wondered if the brass vapourising type is the better bet or the single wick burner would be better as seeing the prices of the tablets which from memory also smoked the boiler up, I would prefer to go the spirit route. I want also to modify it so I can fit a water tank, prob make one from brass sheeting and wondered if I could modify the safety valve hole which is also the fill port to fit a threaded spigot which would be fed by the water line but thinking that might be problematic as if the steam pressure got too much it would blow back up into the water tank, any ideas on that?

Ian Watson I would see if you can get an original wick type burner, if it's from that period, or the vaporiser type if it's a later one. I wouldn't fit a water tank as you say because the boiler is small and topping up during running would just kill it off, plus you'd need a sight glass. My advice is to renovate it just enough so it can be run, add the correct burner and enjoy it for what it is.

Cheers, I will just as you suggest renovate it as its an old 'un, reliving my wasted youth playing with the big ones at Kew Bridge a little and getting carried away. I bought a repro single wick burner online today as its simple and effective for what it needs to do. All the best :)

Thanks for the film, very interesting, could you do a film on repairing an old mamod meths burner,or showing how they should burn and one that is burning not as well as it should, are the any better than the old mamod meths burner, which is what l have got for all my mamod machines, cheers Bob.

The vapourising burner is the best one, if in good condition. I dare say I will get around to doing such a repair/restoration video, but I have no idea when.

This had the potential to be a much better video. It would have been interesting to see how the various burners burn, instead it's just 40 minutes of you talking. How can you do a "burner test" video with 4 burners, and not show anything burning? What a waste.
