Thank you for this teaching. I remember the first time I realized how mind blowing it is to think that Jesus so became our sin that He really thought God had forsaken Him. You always read that but to really think that He thought that was just huge. I always thought He knew what was going to happen but the feeling of being forsaken was real to Him at that point.
Jesus did not feel forsaken. He was quoting psalms 22 and fulfilling a vital prophecy. It was a message to those who doubted him. Someone in such extreme pain will not simply articulate words out of pain. He wanted these words recorded.
@@MegaDrew1984 absolutely I agree 100% I was really confused about that statement from Jesus on the cross until finally a pastor referenced that psalm and if you read it all it talks about many of the recorded events taking place in real time while He was hanging there. It was supposed to prove to those around Him that He was exactly who He claimed to be if they knew the scriptures. We know at least the one centurion believed. He said " Surely this was the Son of God" as Jesus died. Perhaps there were others there who heard His quote and believed
He did not just feel forsaken, he was forsaken. He literally became sin for us, and God the Father withdrew His countenance. The only reason that Jesus did not die there and then was that we was in very nature God the Son. He could not die until He surrendered His Spirit to the Father. That is why He said I commend to you my Spirit. He surrendered His self-existence and thus died for every man. He satisfied the penalty of breaking the Adamic Covenant and ushered in the new covenant given to fallen man (John 3:16); The Great sacrifice was a portion of His divine nature. That is why a being who once held omnipresence says that wishes we were with him. By sacrificing his omnipresence, He can taste of death for every man. Be cause He sacrificed this divine attribute, he craves to be in our physical presence. What an amazing gift and even more amazing sacrifice.
Simply share the truth about Jesus - speak God's Word and it will go forth and do what God intends for it to do - AMAEN and thank you Jesus! You have made sharing YOU... so simple for us to understand and do. May we always make it all about you Jesus and less about us. We love you LORD and give you all glory and honor and praise!
I've also thought of these events as if the Father ( being well pleased with His Son ) also grieved ; in the tearing of ones garment ; the temple veil torn from its top to bottom , ashes on one's head ; darkening of the sun , deep grieving and sorrow as one's body shakes ; earthquake and the spliting of the rocks. My opinion on this passage as well. How could the Father not as well grieve for the suffering and loss of His dear Son in this moment. Also the tearing of the Veil from top to bottom ( as only God could do as of its height and thickness to show this act of authentication ) meaning the old contract is now over; torn up, and we can now enter through Christ God's throne room. Like even the God head suffered.

My husband who studied scripture all his life since 18 years of age when he came to a saving knowledge of Jesus, he thought this particular expression should be translated: My God, My God. At 22:13 you talk about Christ being crucified on a tree that was trimmed. What happened to the cross that He drug thru the streets? Where did that go ?
I have never, In my time as a christian, ever heard this being taught as a focus point. This resurrection of the dead saints. At all. Ever. If thay os meant as literal, This is huge! There's NO WAY the crucifiction, death, and resurrection of Christ could be mistaken, or missed by those alive, and in the vicinity.

Thanku John i listened to you alot , your very easy to understand. I have gained so much from your teaching. Im a owner operator in the trucking industry in Canada so i listen on u tube while i drive.
I've heard that the 'cross' is just the beam to which he would have his hands nailed. It would then be nailed to this tree - or any post, must have been of such a mass that he would have it upon his shoulders. Perhaps the Roman's nails were of various sizes. They'll have experimented with so many other ways to crucify. One picture I get is that the flattest part of the feet got stacked one atop the other and the hugest nail- pierced both then onto the tree at such a depth to share the man's weight with each hand, nailed through their palm's bases. Also I have read of the artifact of a pair of ankles pierced together sideways. The bible says that Christ showed his palms to Thomas and prove his identity after being resurrected.
It was a cross as depicted for over 2 thousand years. If people wish to teach they need to research and study history and read the writings that exist to this day. The Romans used various methods of crucifixion, some so gruesome I won't describe. One type used was the Crux Immissa of which Christ was crucified upon As early as the 2nd century Christians started depicting it in artwork and traced the sign of the cross upon their foreheads
I am afraid Dr Barnett may have got this wrong. It is clear that Simon of Cyrene was compelled to carry the cross from the place where Jesus was evidently so weak due to the effects of the scurging, to the place where He was crucified. It is also very unlikely for there to be three suitable trees conveniently situated together where the malifactors were hung on either side of the Lord.
What do I do with Matt 27:32, Mark 15:21, Luke 23:26? Simon was carrying a cross for the crucifixion of Jesus, so it was more than an artistic rendition of a distinct time, or artistic period. If I'm misunderstanding something, I sincerely apologize for my confusion & my query. I love this ministry but I'm challenged and so I ask for clarification. What am I missing?
✝️ 👨👩👧👦 🇺🇸 - The ‘Church’ in many myriads of (current) cases, deserves to be bashed; Just like the 7 letters to the 7 churches where both the Apostle Paul and Christ himself called out the Churches for their internal problems.
Pastor, when you talk about the "happy side of Hades, or the Pit", how does this differ from Purgatory. I understand that the RCC concept of Purgatory is that escape is only through works, prayers, and indulgences, but isn't the Pit the same concept as Purgatory in that it is an in between place? Thank you. I have recently discovered your videos and am enjoying them very much.
So I am no scholar but what it seems that you’re referring to is sheol from when Jesus told of something that happened there. So there is the unpleasant side and then the side called the bosom of Abraham. Purgatory is about working to pay off sins as if the atonement paid by Jesus’s blood isn’t enough and that is a lie. There is no hope after death bc we lose the flesh. Jesus talks about the resurrection to life and damnation. The information given about the afterlife says we have only this life for salvation. That is why the tale of purgatory is unbiblical. If we could just “payoff” some straggling sins, then what was the point of Jesus dying on the cross? It makes it vain, empty and impotent when Jesus’s death burial and resurrection is our only hope. If His perfect blood isn’t enough, we’re all doomed. Abraham is doomed, David is doomed, Adam and Eve are doomed. All are doomed. But they of faith held to the promise of God of a perfect sacrifice coming. God would make it right. As far as Sheol, I think of it as two chambers where people were/are waiting. It is believed that the Abraham of bosom side is already in heaven. That was why they were waiting for Jesus, to go with Him. As far as those on the torment side, likely they are still there. It may also be called hell/hades but I’m not too sure. What we do know is after judgement, death and hades will be thrown into the lake of fire 🔥 with all those who didn’t believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Keep studying the Bible, open those pages and ask the Lord to teach you. He will give you an answer and an idea of what is to come. He has given us enough to know that we want to believe on His sacrifice for us. And we want to share that with everyone we can because the same event Jesus told wasn’t a parable, it was something that actually happened. He gave the name of the poor man who died. He never did that with any parable. But what is haunting is what the rich man said. He wanted a drop of water. Not a gallon or cup, but a drop and it was denied him. There’s no mercy there. He asked for someone to be raised from the dead to tell them not come there. And what Abraham says should drive the fear of God into every heart. He said that they had the Law and the prophets. And that even if someone did rise from the dead, they wouldn’t believe/be convinced of it. Look around you, do people believe? If you believe in purgatory, please, I beg of you to turn to Jesus Christ bc that lie has already consumed so many people. I don’t want you or your family to be consumed to destruction by it too. Believe on Jesus and His finished work on the cross. It’s anathema in the Roman Catholic Church to say such a thing but it is truth. Jesus paid it all, the end. Believe it, please dear one. We’ve all sinned. None of us deserve it, but Jesus in His mercy and love died to atone for it all. Don’t call His work vain. Please 🙏
Aurora HW you nailed it. I immediately wanted to tell op about the beggar and the rich man because it explains Sheol and Abraham’s bosom. Jesus’ name is the same as Joshua, H3159 in the Strong’s, and it means YHWH is salvation. The name above all names. God said he put His Word above His name. 😮

If the tree (cross) was in place, why was Jesus forced to carry the wood upon which he was to be nailed and Simon also went to help Him carry His cross??

The preacher makes a good point. Those people who a "wishin' and a-hopin'" their sins might be forgiven are not approaching this thing in faith but in doubt, as it is written, "Ye are saved by grace THROUGH FAITH." That literally means that we are saved by grace but only if we believe it. We are not saved by grace through doubt but I'm hear to tell you that most church going people are taught to live in doubt of their salvation. They are told that it sounds too prideful to be assured of your salvation from sin. These preachers and teachers shut up the kingdom of heaven against men. For they neither go in themselves, neither suffer they them that are entering to go in.
@21:00 Though we do not know exactly how various forms of crucifixion were carried out in ancient times, we do know that Simon of Cyrene was forced to carry Jesus' crucifix (Matt 27:32), so we do know that there was a crucifix.
Regarding the earthquake - check out the videos of Ron Wyatt. He determined that the earthquake enabled the Precious Blood to reach the lid of Ark of the Covenant which had been buried under the crucifixion site. The Ark had been sequestered in the ground to protect it from pillage during a siege and the people who hid it were long dead, so the Ark was lost for those many years. Hence the Blood is now on the actual Mercy Seat as the Bible tells us, not just symbolically presented in heaven.
Matthew 27:52-54 KJV And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, [53] And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. [54] Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
Someone may have brought this up..but is it possible that the cloud that received Jesus out of the sight of the disciples; as He ascended, could this have been this cloud of witnesses, the first fruits?
@Gerard Moloney No, of course I dont know it for a fact. But if all the graves opened and the zombies walked around doing a meet-and-greet and NONE of it made it to Rome, then I can reasonably conclude that the event most likely did not happen, hence historical documents are not overflowing with details about the event and WHAT the zombies actually reported.
Great name my brother! Your namesake has significant linkage to this very subject! How cool is that! But I also liked your comment because few people even know anything about the intentional tearing of a garment among the jews. It seems like a curious, if not odd, thing to do but upon further study this practice physically symbolizes significant truths about God.. and where He abides. I've got alot to say here Joel but please hang in there with me.. forgive the "quantity"..and enjoy the "quality"!! Its Gods story regarding that veil in the Temple and it can't be told in a few words. Anything you can add to the subject would be most welcome!! The jewish tearing of one’s clothes at first glance seems like just a tidbit of useless bible trivia. But when we dig deeper be prepared to have one of those rare but wonderful "Ah Hah" moments. The ancient tradition among the Jews of tearing their garment is associated with mourning, grief, and loss. And that's packed with good insightful spiritual meaning but like the onion we know our God has layer upon layer of new and fascinating insights to discover if we're willing to dig for them. Historically the first mention of someone tearing his garments comes really early in scripture..how early?.. as early as Genesis. It doesn't get much earlier than that! You will recall “When Reuben returned to the cistern and saw that Joseph was not there, he tore his clothes” (Genesis 37:29). A short time later, “Jacob tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and mourned for his son many days” (Genesis 37:34) when he thought that Joseph had been killed. Other biblical examples of men who tore their clothes to express pain and sorrow include David, when Saul and Jonathan were killed (2 Samuel 1:11-12); Elisha, when Elijah was taken up into heaven (2 Kings 2:11-12); Job, when he was bereft of all he possessed (Job 1:20); Jephthah, when he learned the result of his rash vow (Judges 11:34-35); Mordecai, when he learned of Haman’s plot to destroy the Jews (Esther 4:1); Ahab, when Elijah pronounced a judgment against him (1 Kings 21:27); and Paul and Barnabas, when the people of Lystra began to worship them (Acts 14:14). Sometimes, the tearing of one’s clothes was accompanied by other signs of humility and grief, such as shaving one’s head (Job 1:20), throwing dust on oneself (Job 2:12), and wearing sackcloth (2 Samuel 3:31). There were times when people should have torn their garments but did not. The prophet Jeremiah received the Word of God concerning a soon-coming judgment on Judah. Jeremiah faithfully wrote the prophecy in a scroll and delivered it to King Jehoiakim. The king listened to the first part of the prophecy, but then he took a knife, cut the scroll in pieces, and burned it in a brazier (Jeremiah 36:23). This impious act was met with chilling stoicism from his aides: “The king and all his attendants who heard all these words showed no fear, nor did they tear their clothes” (verse 24). If ever there was a time to tear one’s clothes, this was it; but these men had no fear of God, no remorse, no conviction of sin. It is interesting to note Joel that the high priest was actually not allowed to tear his clothes: “The high priest, the one among his brothers who has had the anointing oil poured on his head and who has been ordained to wear the priestly garments, must not . . . tear his clothes” (Leviticus 21:10). The special nature of the high priestly office dictated a separation from some of the common customs, including that of mourning. As stated the tearing one’s clothes was a public and powerful expression of grief in ancient times. The practice is continued today in the Jewish practice of 'keriah'. Today’s ritual is less spontaneous and more regulated ( which sadly explains alot about Judiasm today) the garment is cut by a rabbi at a funeral service, as the bereaved recite words relating to God’s sovereignty. One tradition says that the mourner must tear the clothing over the heart-a sign of a broken heart. I find that interesting and symbolically beautiful..but is there more to it than that even?? I think so. More important to us as Christians than outward shows of grief are true sorrow for sin and genuine repentance of the heart. The prophet Joel (your namesake) relayed God’s command: “Rend your heart and not your garments” (Joel 2:13). The One who sees the heart requires more than external "ritual". And the command came with a promise: “Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity” (Joel 2:13;. Psalm 34:18). Recalling the analogy of an onion skin another layer of this "tearing of the veil" event goes even deeper. One way to think about it is tearing that veil apart was to the Mosaic covenant with its' sacrificial system what removing the propellers would mean to a great and powerful "ship". It would come to an immediate halt..the only thing it could do was drift..which is exactly what happened to the Jewish people for over two thousand years! But in Jesus' day the veil ripping in half meant animal sacrifices came to an immediate stop! Jesus had just told His disciples on the mount of Olives just before His death about the coming destruction of the Temple. That "destruction" really began the moment Christ died. It began with the tearing of the veil. Because of its sheer size and thickness only God Himself could rip it in half! Which meant two things..1) access to the Father God was open to all men and 2) God Himself started the destruction of the Temple! ...the Romans only completed that demo 40 years later. The tearing of that veil in half immediately rendered the Temple inoperable..it was 'Out of Order'.. by divine purpose and design. But what actually made the veil rip in half? Ever hear the phrase "Elvis has left the building"? Well God Himself was sending a signal that He had literally left the building. He had left the Holy of Holies. It was torn by His leaving. That realization blew my mind when it first hit me. That opens up even more questions. Such as - If God left..where did He go!? What does this mean?? The answer is something every Christian knows - He went in our hearts..not another building made of brick & stone. He went to the very place He said was "desparately wicked"...it was the last place anyone would dare guess He might go. But thats exactly where He went. Our hearts are not a "Temple" made by human hands.. and more importantly our hearts were not cleansed and prepared for His presence by our human effort. Jesus did it all at the ✝. Our hearts could now be the abode of God..and so they are. Yes we still sin but Jesus wiped away our sin past, present and future. Its an unspeakable gift and will take an eternity to sing His praises for such a gift. 2 Corinthians 13:5, the apostle Paul asks the Corinthian believers a question: “Or do you not realize about yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you?” 2 Corinthians 4:6-7; ...“Because the God who said, Out of darkness light shall shine, is the One who shined in our hearts to illuminate the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellency of the power may be of God and not out of us.” Now I symbolically view the ripping of the garment to mean something much more than sorrowful mourning..it now has come to mean something joyful - My heart is "open" LORD..I surrender all..I'm as guilty and underserving as anything could ever possibly be.. but because of Jesus' cleansing work on the cross combined with your loving mercy and amazing grace ..its been made ready by YOU.. to recieve YOU... Please COME IN! Hallelujah! I've been restored! (I have a T-shirt that is ripped above my heart that I wear as a reminder of that connection I have with that ripped Temple veil). Baruch Hashem Adonai! (Hebrew for:) "Blessed is the name of the LORD." Amen! ✡✝ .
Even in his death he led the captive captive Think I've read that somewhere. Can you imagine being Satan and one of his side kicks . I'd like to hear this teacher/preacher and all of the other "great" teachers speak about Matthew 16:28 and Luke 9:27 where Jesus said that there were "some standing here who would not taste death until He returned." If the "some" will die when Jesus returns it means they are evil. It also means that they have been on earth for more than 2,000 years, and most likely, wreaking havoc on the earth and people. That proves that mankind is not the only intelligent being on earth. Those evil beings are living among us and people need to be aware of it.
Yeah, about that... humans can't live for over 2000 years, so it means Jesus was lying or delusional. And this point you bring up is often cited as evidence of Christianity being a man-made movement and not from deity.
Keep reading. Those those who did not die before they saw his kingdom glory were Peter James and John. Luke 9:32. They prematurely and temporarily witnessed His transfiguration.

I was really confused about that statement from Jesus on the cross until finally a pastor referenced that psalm and if you read it all it talks about many of the recorded events taking place in real time while He was hanging there.

I hope so

Great grief of the Father. We never looked at it that way.
That makes sense. I never thought of that with the veil torn.
As always very good points ! Thank you. God bless you all

At 22:13 you talk about Christ being crucified on a tree that was trimmed. What happened to the cross that He drug thru the streets? Where did that go ?
Carried the crossbar only
Didn’t some man from the crowd have to help carry the cross when Jesus fell? Would he just have helped carry a crossbar piece?
Matthew 27: 32..."And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name; him they compelled to bear His cross."

I actually didn’t know that saints were raised aswell that’s nice to know
so he is saying that it was a tree that was already in its place right ? well why does it say in Mark 15:21 that simon helped him bear his cross ?
One type used was the Crux Immissa of which Christ was crucified upon
As early as the 2nd century Christians started depicting it in artwork and traced the sign of the cross upon their foreheads
So far so good on this one. He hasnt srarted bashing the church yet. Il continue yo listen latter.

I think that Jesus was carrying the crossbeam. They entire cross as depicted by artists would have been too heavy for one man.

I am curious as to what they did with the torn curtain . Would they have repaired it and hung it back up or leave it torn and open?
Matthew 27:52-54 KJV
And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, [53] And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
Many miss the vail torn like a rabbi did their garments when someone committed blasphemy. God himself told the sanhedran what they had done.
2 Corinthians 13:5, the apostle Paul asks the Corinthian believers a question: “Or do you not realize about yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you?”
2 Corinthians 4:6-7; ...“Because the God who said, Out of darkness light shall shine, is the One who shined in our hearts to illuminate the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellency of the power may be of God and not out of us.”
Now I symbolically view the ripping of the garment to mean something much more than sorrowful mourning..it now has come to mean something joyful - My heart is "open" LORD..I surrender all..I'm as guilty and underserving as anything could ever possibly be.. but because of Jesus' cleansing work on the cross combined with your loving mercy and amazing grace ..its been made ready by YOU.. to recieve YOU...

Great!

At 21 mins in you talk about the materials used for the cross. The Bible says that ‘they seized Simon from Cyrene… and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus’. How does work with your description of the permanency of the crucifixion crosses?
So how do you explain the text where it tells us Jesus carried his cross to Calvary if he was hung on a growing tree ?
He carried the cross beam to the tree, the shroud shows heavy bruising on the shoulders where he carried a heavy beam, then he was put on the tree making a cross.
