That's the conflict to me, Albedo considers himself a homunculus created by Gold (that's just something inferred from his canon lines and skill names). So is he human or simply an alchemists creation akin to a living doll? My take is it's something that really bothers him, but friends and love (like with the traveler) help him see he is human like everyone else and that doesn't matter. That's only my take on it though, of course
