“Wish I could wake up to you” has such a haunting or ethereal sound.combined with the lyrics of such longing that it pulls on your heart and wrenches your guts. It is an amazing piece of work from such a talented writer and musician.

Mary, I still like the idea of you going to Crimson and building your dream guitar. What would it be? Solid or hollow? A classic style, or some wild spiky one of a kind custom? Scale length? Neck shape? Pickup type? Simple or fancy electronics? Trem, or hard tail? What tuners and hardware? Natural or paint finish? Just wondering what flavors you would look for in a custom build?

'Wish I could wake up' is lovely, and that guitar is amazing in it's balance between the the E and A strings, as it perfectly compliments your finger picked bass style while letting the treble float over the top. 'Keep it to my self' is just as lovely and shows how far you have come! you sound like someone who plays guitar a lot! if you know what I mean? It's becoming integral to you. XXX S
I could really feel the emotion in both of these songs. Mary did a wonderful job with writing both meaningful lyrics and melodies. First off, my condolences on your loss. My heart goes out to you, and to Skip's family. I'm not very good with words when it comes to things like that, just know I empathize, and I am so sorry.
As to "Kept Secret," gods above and below... Mary, I think these two are your best yet. They've blown me away. I've been listening to you since you covered Message in a Bottle, and went back and bought all your EPs to boot--but these are on another level. The picking in this one, phenomenal, the bridge took me completely by surprise and was amazing. And, as always, your voice was the star of the show.
"Wake Up to You" is... I'm going to have that on repeat forever. The harmonics in it, just... Absolute proper quality, that cut. Your voice, as always, on point. The guitar is a beaut, and a nice compliment to your voice. Again, the harmonics at the end of those phrases--they really make that song shine.
Such a beautiful song "One kept secret". I keep coming back to listen to it. I can see it doing really well!

The carve on the top reminds me of PRS’s single cut model, but the carved back… there was only one Les Paul model with a carved back (flame maple), the Surpreme and they are rare and expensive all on their own and a pain to repair as the only access into the electronics is through an oversized jack plate on the side.
It’s not really a carved back here in the sense of the Les Paul Supreme. It’s really a subtle comfort carve/“belly cut” like many guitars have (but typically not Les Pauls).

Sorry for your loss... Skip sounds like an amazing guy. Beautiful guitar, beautiful songs, beautiful singing & playing as usual. A perfect tribute. Kinda feel like that guitar is desperate to be 'let loose' with overdrive, and in the middle part of 'Kept Secret' it sounds angrier in the song & maybe should be. That's just my opinion though... maybe something to try when the time comes to recording it properly.
However, any other RUclips guitarist would have taken that guitar, cranked it up full, and shredded with it. You can tell it is built for that. But not you... so I can see why Nik Huber sent it to you.

To be honest, this is not the kind of music I like but oh my, you’re such a wonderful player! It’s amazing how you control the dynamics while singing without a compressor.
I think that her styles is pretty beautiful when on an acoustic, on an eletric not so much. But oh well, that is just my taste

I’m always really glad to see someone opened-up to boutique guitars on RUclips. I’m constantly telling my clients to look beyond the typical corporate endorsement instruments, there’s so, so much more out there. The analogy I always use is that of instant coffee as opposed to properly ground and well-made barista coffee; once you get it, going back just isn’t an option!
what a gorgeous guitar! it was a terrific vehicle for the delivery of these two new songs. practically speaking, listening to both of these tracks, I'm hearing sync opportunities. It sounds like Skip was a fantastic guy to have in your corner for as long as you had him there. R.I.P. Skip.
A few years back, I was at my favorite music store here in Charleston, SC and I had the pleasure of meeting with a salesman who had a number of high end guitars with him. They were demos and, having prior knowledge of Huber, I guitars, I tried it out. It was unbelievable! Kinda felt like a Les Paul but sounded like a PRS. Didn't even have the money for it but I've never forgotten that guitar!

Love her voice and minimalist playing style. I really dont like when certain players pick up a beautiful, resonant and organic sounding guitar and start shredding like mad at high volumes through a brittle distortion pedal. It just ruins the vibe and makes an expensive guitar sound cheap and sterile...

Now, see, THAT is a beautiful guitar. All my sulking about relic'ing & the repetitiveness of burst this, burst that, the same Gibson style ad nauseum. Someone finally gets the everything right. I've got a thing about plastic tuner pegs, i.e., I don't like them. However, they fit perfectly here. No tacky wooden tone/volume knobs, no steampunk or acid-burned gold/copper hardware to 'brown up' the metal. Beautiful figuring, binding. Matched mahogany, VERY subtle tobacco fade. Weight relief too? I'm in. There must've been a stash of Brazilian rosewood drying out somewhere. The one you have has a much darker body 'in person' than it shows on their site. Also of note - there are no prices listed for their instruments, so that of course means they're free. Only order one of each, people.
Love the new songs. Especially good & unexpected range in the lower register. Lyrics are mature & interesting. Like a true musician that brings the song to the studio, not the other way around. I'd like to hear 'best kept secret' with an acoustic (or acoustasonic?).
