The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
It is a public research university in Mexico, it is the most prestigious, renowned and famous university in all of Mexico.
Founded in 1551, it was created by royal decree of the emperor Carlos V.
It is the oldest university in North America, (long before Harvard) and the second in the Americas.
It was re-founded in 1910, but without losing its identity as a Hispanic university.
UNAM occupies a prominent place in the world ranking based on the university's extensive research and innovation.
It is the largest university in Latin America and has one of the largest campuses in the world.
UNAM's main campus in Mexico City, known as Ciudad Universitaria, is a UNESCO World Heritage site that was designed by some of Mexico's best-known architects of the 20th century.
The murals on the main campus were painted by some of the most recognized artists in the history of Mexico, such as Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros. UNAM generates a series of solid research publications and patents in various areas, such as robotics, computer science, mathematics, physics, human-computer interaction, history, philosophy, among others. All Mexican Nobel laureates are alumni or professors at UNAM.
