- Homemade Applesauce has never been easier! Using naturally sweet apples means no added sugar, and the KitchenAid mixer with the fruit and vegetable strainer does all the hard work!
Recipe:
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup water
1/2 bushel (about 22 pounds) Crispin apples, also known as Mutsu apples.
Cinnamon optional
INSTRUCTIONS
Quarter the apples, no need to peel or core.
Working in batches, place the water and apples in a large pot or pan.
Cover and place over medium heat. Cook until apples break down, about 20-30 minutes.
When the apples are soft, run them through a Kitchenaid with the fruit and vegetable strainer attachment, or use a food mill to separate the seeds/skins from the apples.
Add cinnamon, if using, and stir.
Store in the fridge or freezer.
Yields 7-9 quarts.
Shelly THANK YOU... No extra chit chat..just moving right into it. love that!!
You're so welcome!! And let me just apologize in advance for any other videos you see of mine with chit chat. 😆 I went through a phase of trying different things-- so I'm sorry if they're there. Happy cooking!
I have a question regarding cranberries. I like jellied cranberry sauce, not whole berry sauce. Would you be able to strain cooked berries without a problem?
Yes! I've done it lots of times with that attachment.
I use a nesko to cook my apples
If i wanted to add blueberries or cranberries would i cook those with the apples and put it all thru the kitchen-aid strainer??
Yes! That's exactly right. The only consideration might be your desired level of sweetness as cranberries are quite tart. As you know from the video, I don't usually sweeten my applesauce, but with cranberries, you may want to. Totally depends on your taste preferences. Personally, I think blueberries are sweet enough. Cranberry Applesauce sounds delicious right now!
Silicone Souper cube molds then vaccum seal, can souvee for warm applesauce 😋
Awesome suggestion!!
Thank you for your very pleasant, clear, and concise instructions! 🥰 Sadly, I tried to use your Amazon link... came up "Currently Unavailable " 😥 ps. Thank you so much for the tip re apple variety, I need no sugar /low carb recipes as hubby is diabetic. 🤗
Thank you for the heads up on the amazon link, I'll fix that. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Do you need to peel and core the apples first or will the attachment strain that out on its own?
The attachment will separate the cores and peels! 🙌
How long do you cook them (and how many apples) in your instant pot? Also, how much water would you use in your IP when doing that?
GAH! I never got notified of your comment! I'm so sorry. Anyway, You can fill your instant pot 2/3rd's full, no more, with apples. I'd say depending on the size of your apples, it will be 6-9 apples. If you're using a 6 quart, then add 1 cup of water. If you're using an 8 quart, add 1 1/2 cups of water. You can use apple juice or apple cider as your liquid if you'd like. Cook on high pressure for 12 minutes, let naturally release for at least 15 minutes. Again, so sorry for not seeing this sooner!
@@ArtFromMyTable no worries, thank you 💕
Can I buy one?
Of course! You can get it on Amazon through my affiliate link (no pressure) or at a local store that carries them amzn.to/3kr9C4q
Did you mean to say 22lbs of apples? It looks like you're using 6apples.
Yes, the recipe says 22 pounds because when I make applesauce-- I make applesauce! :-) I'll do a half bushel (about 22 pounds). 6 of those apples does fill a whole pot, so that's correct on what you're seeing. When I batch make this, I have every pot/pan and every burner on the stove going and I just work through the whole bushel. That being said, you can make it just fine with 6 or so apples, that would be more for eating right away and not storing long term. Does that make sense?
@@ArtFromMyTable yes it does. Thank you. So how would I change the amount of the other ingredients to go with the smaller amount of apples?
@@ccross04 it’s the same, because in the video I’m showing you one pan full of apples. If you use less apples and a smaller pan, then use 1/4 cup of water. I just like a tiny bit so it covers the bottom of the pan. It prevents it from burning. Cinnamon is optional and is to taste. That’s it! Since apples are the only ingredient, you just adjust that to how much you want to make. The stockpot full of apples makes enough to fill a large mixing bowl.
What size stock pot are you using?
