A helpful note: if you are from the US, you only need a charging adapter for 3-pronged plugs! For example a laptop charger may have 3 prongs. All other plugs are compatible with japans voltage.
I’m going to Japan for the first time this June so I really needed this video! I’m a huge anime and Sanrio fan (with adult money as well 😄) and I’m already stressing about how all of the things I buy is going to fit in my carry on 😣 Can you make a video of the things you bought there and also how you were able to make them fit maybe?? Love the video 🫶🏽
yes!! Will be making a japan haul vid soon! Since most international flights allow two free checked luggages, I actually put my carry on u saw in this vid inside a completely empty luggage so I have a big luggage to fill up with goodies haha 😂 but will be sharing where to get cheap luggages in Tokyo in my haul video too!
Which country are you from? I ask because you packed an international outlet adapter and you sound like you’re from the USA which uses the same outlets in Japan. I’m planning to go to Tokyo in July so I’m trying to prepare. Thank you
I’m from the US! Japan uses a different voltage even tho the outlets are the same, so it’s recommended to use an adapter to prevent any damages to your electronics! + many hotels/airbnbs have limited outlets & my adapter has extra usb ports so we can charge more devices at once! Hope this is helpful!
@@sophieeleung thank you Sophie! I will get an adapter to be on the safe side. I thought maybe needed adapter because some of our electronics have 3 prong and Japan only uses 2. Thanks for pointing out the difference in voltage.
@@sophieeleung Woah, the suitcase in a suitcase is going to be my plan in October! Curious to know how it worked out with lugging two suitcases around towards the end of your trip. Please let me know in your reply :)
Going to tokyo in 9 weeks for 2 weeks! Only brining a cary on and a personal bag but i will likely buy alot in japan and buy a new suitcase to bring home.
Wow, this video is so helpful! I'm also planning a trip to Tokyo soon, and watching your packing process and hearing your tips and tricks is incredibly insightful. I love how organized and efficient you are with categorizing your items and considering the duration of your stay. Your tech gear and electronics collection is impressive, and it's great that you're prepared with a portable charger and travel adapter. Thanks for sharing your packing process, and have an incredible time in Tokyo!
Wow, this is so impressive. I want to pack that lightly. I'm having trouble reducing my clothes. I'll use this as inspiration. Thank you, this is very practical. Happy travels.
did you do any inter-city travel while in japan? if so do you just book a new hotel at the new destination or did you keep the same hotel for two weeks but book another one for a day trip and then come back to the same one? did you have to book the hotels in advance or would it be simple to try to find one once you arrive if you choose to do a day trip? do you have any recommendations for places to go for day or weekend trips? i really want to take advantage of their rail system and visit both the city and beautiful nature spots
For day trips we’d just keep the same hotel simply because it’s ways easier but if we’re going somewhere further (e.g. Kyoto/osaka) and will stay the night/multiple nights we’d look into shipping our luggages directly to our next hotel (many hotels & tourist info centers have that service and can help coordinate!) With the tourism boom in Japan, I definitely recommend booking all your accommodations in advance because it will be very costly and sometimes even hard to find a place last minute. For day trips near Tokyo I definitely recommend kamakura! I have a video up on it and it’s hands down my favorite day trip spot!
I put my carryon into a bigger luggage and checked it in on my way there so I had an empty luggage with me. But I ended up having to buy one anyways cause I bought too much stuff 😅 so I ended up coming back with two luggages and a carryon
That was the first gen osmo pocket! I’d say it’s decent but I recently got the new osmo pocket 3 which has a low light setting that works so well! Highly recommend getting the new 3rd gen instead!
One more question: did you do a lot of walking with your carry on? Or did you book multiple days at hotels so you didn't need to bring it while sight seeing?
I booked multiple days! But Japan has storage lockers everywhere that u can store your carryon in and u can also pay to ship your luggage to your next hotel if you’re traveling to different prefectures! If you’re staying in hotels, u can also have them hold on to your luggage before check in or after checking out if your flight arrives/leaves at an awkward time!
Hello, thank you so much for sharing this! I'll make this as one of my inspiration, for our upcoming trip to Japan late this year! I have a question though, when you go out of a hotel, do you just carry with you your backpack, or do you have another crossbody bag or something to use?
Air dry! Dryers are not very typical in Japan (u can still find them but many household/Airbnb doesn’t have them) they rely on air drying most of the time!
June def starts to get hot and humid in Japan but not unbearable. There may be scattered showers here and there since typhoon season is approaching (usually starts around July) but I wouldn’t say they’ll be frequent downpours
Did you take an empty case to fill up or just try to fit as many of your purchases in the carry on case home? ...I'm packing for 2 weeks Japan as I type this ...whilst glancing over at my humungous case that's out of control.
haha same I hate bothering people lol I used this one from Amazon:(amzn.to/3JLH0Ba) it’s really sturdy and lightweight so it’s easy to get different shots, esp full body ones! I also love the joby gorilla pod for awkward surfaces but it’s a bit pricy
Heyy ! Just wanted to ask if the carry on luggage was a cabin luggage or a medium luggage ? I’m planning to go to Japan in November on budget so was thinking if I can just carry a back pack and a cabin luggage ? I don’t have much camera gear and all , clothes are light and I have a pair of extra shoes , no make up , just a face wash , sunscreen and moisturiser. Soo what do you think ? Can I take a backpack and a cabin luggage ? Without paying anything extra ?
Yep totally! My carryon was is cabin approved so you should have no issues with that! What I did was putting my carryon into a larger luggage and checked it in since I knew I would come back with a lot of stuff 😅 but u can totally do with the amount of stuff you plan to bring!
@@sophieeleung I’m planning to bring a lot , but I’m taking a very little stuff with me while going as I have a friend there already so toiletries and all are not necessary, only clothes , shoes and basics are to be taken. I am planning to bring back Japanese teas , Sauces, skin care and all
