Watched this every Friday. It was my favourite day of the week. Always wanted a picket fence; a spotty dog and a Mrs Scrubbit. I never had a picket fence or a dog and I became Mrs Scrubbit!
I was born in 1954 and this was My favourite children's TV Programme. I just loved spotty dog and thanks to him have had Dalmatian dogs as pets for last 21 years. 🌹🐕
Wonderful memories of watching these good old children's programmes with Watch With Mother, etc. My Mum would watch with me back in the 50's. Sadly both my parents are long gone. I nice warm feeling watching these again. Thank you for uploading them.
Oh I just loved this - how gorgeous to see it again. I used to watch it after lunch. My mum would switch on the tv for the programme and then turn it off again after it had ended. Just like it happens for kids today!
If my memory hasn't failed me..Monday was Picture Book, Tuesday was Andy Pandy, Wednesday, the Flower Pot Men, Thursday we had Rag, Tag, and Bobtail and Friday The Woodentops :-) Happy Days
I remember breaking out in floods of tears when they sang the "Spotty Dog" song. The words went something like "Poor little spotty dog all on his own / / All alone without even a bone / ". At primary school we all walked around like spotty dog, legs and arms totally out of control and stupid great grins on our faces :-)
Such memories! I had a lovely childhood and 'Watch with Mother' was a big part of that (not to mention the fabulous pieces of music such as this Grieg classic). Thank you
Ooh, now this takes me back. Why can't they entertain todays' children with these classics instead of all the cgi and digital trickery, plastered with copious amounts of overpowering colour designed to cause sensory overload?! 🏴
Where's Dobbin? The bovine interest must've come later..... "Oi feel you there, Dobbin", said Sam. That music caught me unawares. I'd forgotten how I sat on mother's knee, 65 years ago, to watch, waiting for the old valve TV to heat up, then that laconic melody.... nowhere is it played as meditatively as here. I think I lost my composure hearing it again as an ingrained memory.
Good days they were, my old neighbor god rest her soul she’d always watch with me with her homemade sponge cake when I was 6 when she babysit me, she was like a nan to me and until she passed away it made me think of her even today
I grew up watching this (and other Watch With Mother programmes). Now children watch robots that turn into weapons and kill people with violent sounds in the background. Can we really be surprised our society has turned into a nightmare?
There was an episode of "The Woodentops" where there was a song about poor Spotty Dog without a bone. Used to have me in tears as a kid. The words were something like: Everyone: "Poor little Spotty Dog all on his own" Spotty Dog; "Oh oh oh" Everyone "All alone without even a bone" Spotty Dog; "Oh oh oh" BBC woman - "Pooooor Spotty Dog" I think that episode of Watch WIth Mother hurt me so much that I shall be seeking compensation from the BBC....................... Thanks for the post!
this so beats all the rubbish i see my granddaughters watching like sponge Bob - thank you for taking me back to my childhood and wonderful memories, and thank you for uploading
I remeber watching this way back in 2001, about 5 at the time, and asking things like, "Why does the mum not go to work? Why did she leave Baby Woodentop outside, isn't that dangerous? Why is Daddy doing all the work?" and my own mum was like, "*pats head* When you're older ^-^" xD
this is so much more cleverer then the cartoons and the computerised programmes we have these days mum bought us the video when we were small although i was born in the 90s I still favour childrens programmes like this thank you for uploading this :-)
We lived on a 3rd floor flat no garden no pets l longed for life and home like these and Dick and Dora with a mother there when I go home from school my mum bless her was at work all day
Ski lifts are closed for alpine skiing because of covid and we have been forced to learn cross county skiing instead. Spotty Dog (6.00 )is our role model. Speaking “Spotty Dog” is getting funny looks from passers by !
Daddy Woodentop: "What have we got for dinner today, Mummy Woodentop?" Mummy Woodentop: "Have you got wood for brains? We're having the usual wood and charcoal for dinner!"
This provokes memories I thought no longer exist..The smell of my mums stew crept into my mind, chickenpox and Farleys Rusks. It's day at nursery, I ran out, they couldn't find me for an hour. I'm gonna turn this off and keep it off it's too provoking...
When these programmes went out, everybody did! Mothers would leave their babies outside shops in their prams safe in the knowledge that they'd still be there 5, 10 or even 30 minutes later. Seems incredible now but all of us babies from the sixties are living proof of happier days. In that respect, anyway
There she is at her kitchen stove looking to see if the potatoes were cooked and the meat was done. Mummy wooden top began to serve the dinner, Brilliant :-). The good old days when women were women.
Watched this every Friday. It was my favourite day of the week. Always wanted a picket fence; a spotty dog and a Mrs Scrubbit. I never had a picket fence or a dog and I became Mrs Scrubbit!
😂❤
Brilliant. 😅
Merry Christmas Mrs Scrubbit.
🎅 🎄
Hee hee thanks for the chuckle!
I was born in 1954 and this was My favourite children's TV Programme. I just loved spotty dog and thanks to him have had Dalmatian dogs as pets for last 21 years. 🌹🐕

This was replaced by the exorcist to bring nursery aged children up to date with the world in the 21st century.
That's a seriously evocative piece of piano playing. 'Watch with Mother' is woven into the very
fabric of my childhood. Thank's for sharing.
Heart warming...yet...a tinge of sadness
I grew up watching these . So many memories.
29 years old and my mum and I still sing "What have we got for dinner today, for dinner, for dinner, for dinner today."

🥰 awwww how things change . Lovely unassuming family life . Love the Wooden tops.
Oh I just loved this - how gorgeous to see it again. I used to watch it after lunch. My mum would switch on the tv for the programme and then turn it off again after it had ended. Just like it happens for kids today!

Andy Pandy and Flower pot men received spin-offs right?
Correct
Your Spot on, watched them on a 10" black and white TV
I was born in September 1963 and only vaguely remember the Wooden tops!
So glad I was a child in this era, feel so sorry for youngsters of today
They were the days great memories! Watching watch with mother! The remake of the flowerpot men was terrible and was Andy pandy a boy or girl??
@@kenmarsh402 I

Why?
So many fond memories of the 50s.
I can still do my Spotty Dog impression. 😁
I'm 50 this month and not seen this program for well over 40 years. Thanks for taking me back.

I wanted to have Spotty Dog more than anything when I was small. Infact I think I still do! Thanks for the memory!
Friday was always special. And that music was by grieg. It's called cow call or something similar. Spotty was my favourite. Such a cool dog.
Spotty Dog is an absolute riot!
BISCUIT!!!😀
Such memories! I had a lovely childhood and 'Watch with Mother' was a big part of that (not to mention the fabulous pieces of music such as this Grieg classic). Thank you
My absolute favourite, I was 9 before we got a telly & this spawned a whole language that my brothers & I used as baby talk.
I actually remember watching this one 😲
Ooh, now this takes me back. Why can't they entertain todays' children with these classics instead of all the cgi and digital trickery, plastered with copious amounts of overpowering colour designed to cause sensory overload?! 🏴
i was born 1997 im 15 and i love this programme

this so beats all the rubbish i see my granddaughters watching like sponge Bob - thank you for taking me back to my childhood and wonderful memories, and thank you for uploading
My daughter went to Eastbourne today. She rang to say she had bought me a present - a book about The Woodentops!.
This is cool. I love puppets and marionettes. Thanks for preserving this.
My friend, Gregory Dites Walters (Wally) could do a wonderful impression of Spotty Dog walking. Cheers mate. Best Wishes Neil
Takes me back half a century.... yesterday!
Classic, I may show this to my grandkids see what they think...
Awwww such happy memories of watching this when I was a kid
Baby Woodentop grew up to be Iain Duncan Smith.
Andy Pandy grew up to be boy george..
Thank you for these uploads xx
The pace is so calming whereas kiddies programmes now leave your head in a whirl
puppetry skills on point
this is so much more cleverer then the cartoons and the computerised programmes we have these days mum bought us the video when we were small although i was born in the 90s I still favour childrens programmes like this thank you for uploading this :-)

Odd. It made me cry back then --- and makes me cry now.
The correct procedure would be to nail the blanket to the pram thereby removing the option to throw it out.
It has taken years of therapy to not die of laughter whenever Spotty Dog is on.
It still hasn't worked.
+nuclear1250 I would like to have seen the actor's face while he was performing Spotty's "lines".
Lovely memories of this kiddy show for me
I love Spotty Dog.
Beautiful innocent days 😇😇😇
Ski lifts are closed for alpine skiing because of covid and we have been forced to learn cross county skiing instead.
Spotty Dog (6.00 )is our role model.
Speaking “Spotty Dog” is getting funny looks from passers by !
Don't get me wrong, daddy Woodentop was probably a nice bloke but his acting was very wooden.
Weren't they all?
@@robertroberts2666
Yes, they were all chips off the old block (or possibly bloke).
Mummy Wooden Top has a maid, how very middle class.
Not a Romanian one either.
But dad works in the turnip field, rather working class, take your pick. We haven't established whether he is landed gentry or serf.
I think I still remember this episode !
hahaha ... was just thinkin the same thing ... but it hasnt stopped me from watchin it over and over again - so many memories!
I watch them too....all them years agoxx
It's such a lovely clear quality.
what have we got for dinner today for dinner for dinner for dinner today. Nothing for you but sawdust and hay, sawdust and hay for dinner today.
Wake up widden heed
So wholesome ❤
Simpler times, happier times ❤
teletubbies were not the first to mess with young brains
The narrator here is Maria Bird-with very distinct 'BBC English' enunciation - very 50's BBC.
I reckonised the dog's voice right away: It's Peter Hawkins. Better known for Captain Pugwash, Bill and Ben and the Daleks.
Is it me or does she speak/sound like actress Jean Simmons?
Daddy Woodentop: "What have we got for dinner today, Mummy Woodentop?"
Mummy Woodentop: "Have you got wood for brains? We're having the usual wood and charcoal for dinner!"

Aah, a simpler time. I don't see what's creepy about it though, Sue Sundowner.
Men Behaving Badly brought me here.
Sawdust and Hay!
I think the baby is speaking in Navajo.
To be fair, despite being filmed in 35mm, you can barely see the wires.
wires ! whatever do you mean?
Those where the days of childhood memories*
I really don’t think Willie and Jenny are exactly alike! They’ll be fraternal twins since identical twins are always the same gender!
When these programmes went out, everybody did! Mothers would leave their babies outside shops in their prams safe in the knowledge that they'd still be there 5, 10 or even 30 minutes later. I'd like to bet that your mum would love to watch this - she 'could perhaps' just remember you watching it as a child :D.
"I'm a friend of, The Woodentops"
Adam Ant - Friends
(So that's what he meant with that lyrics ) :)
I think this explains why I've grown up to be a little odd.
I only have to listen to the first few seconds of the music, and i lose it, i am 71 and am sitting here blubbing.
There is your dinner... A bone. holy shit
....yup.....so good....
