After Stubb was bitten, he was always on the main ship and then after the speech locked in the hold. Ahab just lowered the skiff and said 'Stubb was left behind on the skiff cheering them on safely' so that Pip and others, even Stubb himself, can "cope." Now only the "mermaid" remains
I was just confused because Ahab told them to incarcerate Stubb in the Cistern and then immediately tells them to send him out on a skiff right after. I had thought that maybe the earlier cutscene where Pip doesn't want to go down to Mermaid Stubb happened between those two events. Your explanation makes sense, though.
To clarify. I hadn't picked up that Ahab was pretending Stubb and the Mermaid were separate entities, so I was confused that she was giving conflicting orders and thought there might have been a timeskip because sending Stubb off on a skiff right after he was bitten would've meant the earlier cutscene where Pip doesn't want to go down and see the Mermaid couldn't have happened. The cutscene and Ahab's speech makes a lot more sense now, though.
