    I dont understand how everyone admires him when he is the one who took decision of increasing the speed and ignore the lack of boats to save everyone’s lives. How is he a “Hero”

    • @jacktfowler246

      Wrong it was Ismay who called for them to speed up. Captain Smith was comfortable with the speed they were proceeding at. Ismay wanted to get to New York earlier. As for the life boats, the original design had enough, but Ismay ordered Mr Andrew's to remove some of them because Ismay felt the deck would look to crowded.

      I imagine it wouldve gone something like
      " well E.J, you had a good run. My story is just one of thousands, and like all stories it must have an end. Although i didn't think it would end like this, im at peace with it..." and as Captain Smith took a final breath, water burst into the wheelhouse and the honorable captain was submerged in the icy water, and piloted the front half of the ship to its final resting place at the bottom of the sea...
      That was kinda poetic, im proud of myself.

    Yeah I'm sure they had plenty of people that wanted to "play" Captain E.J. Smith, but everything had to be perfect and I'm sure the designers of Titanic exhibition were indeed picky and rightfully so.

  • @USSManhattan
    @USSManhattan 14 лет назад +7

    Further, Titanic was not racing to beat a record. It was impossible for her to best Lusitania or Mauritania. At worst, Smith is guilty of going too fast, but that was common procedure for North Atlantic captains in such a situation.

    • @cmderfox5396
      @cmderfox5396 6 лет назад

      USSManhattan
      Actually, the Titanic couldve easily outran the Lusitania or Mauritania. The Titanic was not only the biggest ship of its time, but also the fastest. And E.J only ordered full speed because Ismay told him to, Ismay ran White Star Line, White Star Line pays E.J, do you see why he had no other choice? It was entirely Ismays fault and Ismay was too much of a coward to pay for his mistake, instead he let Thomas Andrews and Captain Smith die on the ship, Andrews believing it was his own fault, E.J died because it was the honorable thing to do.

    • @cmderfox5396
      @cmderfox5396 6 лет назад +2

      TheTraveltube
      It wasnt E.Js fault. He ordered full speed because Ismay told him to, Ismay ran White Star Line which is the company that pays E.J. Also he was asleep when the Titanic hit an iceberg. So thats even more proof that it wasnt his fault.
