I have a GX32 and a GX52. The 32 works just fine, but the 52 will not record anything. When I press the "rec Button", nothing happened. All the other buttons just work fine and so the "play" button. I can play tapes, but can't record them. My knowledge about repairing a tapedeck isn't that big. Changing belts or cleaning the tape to get rid of crackling and other noises, I can do that. But when it comes to electronic issues, I have no clue where to start. Sadly, I couldn't find any video of how to repair this "record" problem of the GX52. Anyway, for me it's always helpful to watch such repair videos. So keep up the good work. 👍

I am trying to help. I would start with a simple fault finding. Check the REC switch and the recording switch in the cassette slot. If these are good and do not prevent the device from starting the recording mode, then I would check a couple of transistors. Those marked TR102, TR109, TR104-106. If these are also good, then the control IC should be examined. Hoping that the head is the good one.

@@retrodeck1956 Thanks for helping, I really appreciate that. I opened the deck again and before I was checking for the transistors you mentioned, I saw, that the contact switch of the deck, the ones over the cassette, was out of shape. So I straighten it up again with a flat nose pier. After that, the recording function of the deck worked again. I'm glad, that it was such a small issue. Sometimes these tiny issues are making big problems. But to find those is as hard as finding the more complex failures. Thanks again for your help. 🙂

fantastic videos from your side 😎
One note, nowadays the dwell time or attention span is only 8 seconds - your _intros_ alone are 40 seconds long...😇🙄

thanks for this video! I have the same model (GX-32) but I am having some trouble recording anything audible at the moment… the only thing it records is noise, would you have some suggestions of things for me to check that I can research further to try to identify the problem?

Hi, in this video I show quite well how to troubleshoot if there is a recording problem. Check whether you can hear the music on the headphones during recording, the display indicates and you can control the recording level. Since this is a two-head device, if it sounds good during playback, then I don't think the head is at fault, but check the soldering and connection of the wires. If the headphones do not sound, then an oscilloscope or multimeter is needed to repair them. You have to search for the incoming signal based on the service manual.
