This song is a favorite of mine! Not sad just enough to relate to. I believe this is about Chris Daughtry's life as a small town guy making it big as a music artist and reflecting on the joy of just being able to go back to his home life away from all the glitz and glamor.. Many people consider "going home" as to the heavens but in this song I believe it was written in regards to the success of Chris Daughtry. How ironic. American Idol used the "I'm going home" part of the song when they went to the finalists's homes for backstory videos. But the song itself is saying success ain't all it's cracked up to be. Life on the road is hard. Daughtry didn't win in their season of Idol. 4th place I believe which was a blessing to them.

Chris Daughtry has an amazing voice and is a humble guy. He placed fourth on Season 5 of "American Idol" back in 2006. Chris also appeared on the U.S. version of "The Masked Singer" a few years ago as The Rottweiler and did a bang-up job singing Lewis Capaldi's hit song "Someone You Loved." Even though he's wearing a dog costume, I prefer Chris's version over Lewis's original. 🙂
