I destroyed my 80's tape collection because of the immense guilt and shame they put on me. Recently I started buying them again off Ebay, starting with my first Bowie album. I'm reclaiming my youth that they took from me. There was nothing wrong with me!
Same for me with some music and my sci-fi collectables. As a teen, I had a lot of cool stuff but burned it bc I thought Jesus was taking second place. 🙄
I remember my friend and I burning our Pokemon cards after our pastor condemned it too. Now I see some of them selling for thousands to collectors! I’ve also enjoyed reclaiming my youth with these hobbies and entertainment. Especially getting to see my nephews’ wonder when they experience things I missed out on has been really healing.
Dawne bravely speaking for THOUSANDS of others still living in silent observation of the hypocrisy, spouse abuse, and child abuse all around us. And we can’t help without “causing trouble” for “them.” They don’t want help. They don’t need a “savior.” 😮
Appreciate Dawne's story of coming out of religion. I thought I had been pretty deep into it back when I was a believer, but hearing some of these stories, I fortunately never got nearly as deep as some of them. Still it is so liberating to understand that the concept of religion and god(s) is such a silly notion in this modern day with all the knowledge and evidence we have for a natural world in a natural universe. My hope is more people can find their way out. It is a truly personal journey that must be taken only if the person is willing to question and get curious. It can't be forced on anyone.
This is an awesome channel, appreciate it so much Tim. I can relate to every single thing Dawne said. I was on track to be another Keith Green & almost went to their Last Days Ministries school, but went a different, just as serious, route. Also I completely understand the cycle of re-dedications and getting rid of the ‘sinful’ stuff then having to do it again years later. Ugh. I made so many decisions because of Christianity that I wish I could go back and re-do. Getting out of it is not easy when you’ve spent decades really believing it all. No worries about people accepting your atheism Dawne, you don’t need to evangelize them 😂. Your true friends will love you no matter what you believe. If anyone tries to talk to me about where I stand, I just ask questions about the things I know don’t make sense and they have to use the “His ways are higher’ excuse.
I am so happy you were finally able to escape all that mess. As a father of 4 amazing human beings, it really made me happy to hear how much of an impact your father had on you. And as a father of 4 amazing human beings, 2 of which do not share an ounce of my DNA, kudos to your husband for being the kind of man to step up to the plate! I know what that is like and how much of an impact that can be for children. You are truly a lucky woman in that regard. Best to you and yours as you continue to move forward.
catholic deconstruction: my deconstruction was final when I realized that confession is really me sitting in the closet talking to some old guy about my sins. :)
I guess after this interview she wont be singing in that church anymore.....hahahaaha I am kidding! :) your story is amazing. Many things I also went through my deconstruction. I am so proud of you. You did something many dont dare to do. A big hug to you
Funny. I was thinking that, too. Some Sundays are harder than others. The same lame message with no real hope or practical help. Like I said, I like the small paycheck. I love to sing. And, there are some very dear people there, in spite of their beliefs.
I think not being able to be free who you are speaks volumes about how we live in fear of bible god and Christians. Why are we afraid of Christians, I thought they were loving and kind people.
"Christianity does not transcend the human experience " Damn right 👍 Its just one belief system out of the many available. One that doesn't even come close to manifesting what it promises. Not a single Christian has ever accomplished what Jesus claims they will all accomplish. Except maybe the becoming a slave part.
@@BabyOfTheLord Not at all. Did you turn off the NDE episodes where people mention all the other religious beliefs ? @@FoursWithin Yeah they are human experiences and I've heard a lot of them where people get saved in different ways. One woman was stuck under water hanging from a boat and completely drown. It's different than concrete proof because they wouldn't be bound of this world. If I say they're all lying, that could make myself a liar. Me personally, I listen to a lot of people's stories
@@BabyOfTheLord Who said they were lying. People believe all sorts of fantastical, illogical, far fetched, outlandish, superstitious, and literally impossible things without being liars. If I tell you my actual experience of a dream I'm not lying no matter how bizarre or illogical it may sound . The literature is clear about NDE that people of certain cultures come back from NDE to tell of experiences that coincide with the culture and beliefs from which the person is familiar. So Christian cultures come back with stories of Christ , while Hindus have stories of Krishna or Brahma, and Buddhists return with stories of Bodhisattvas or Tara's, and so on.

Hi Tim my brother I have been watching your shows a lot and I find you and your guest interesting. I will love to be one of your guest one day if possible.
That was unfortunate, but if her first reaction was being upset you didn't tell her instead of being concerned, she ain't ever been a best friend. She valued her Christian sensibilities more than your well-being. I'm sorry you've had so many toxic people in your life, but it's a good thing that you're miles away from them now.
Good insight:
“You’re told, don’t be a slave to sin but be a slave to Christ. Where’s the freedom? You’re still a slave” 😂Lol. So true.

Being able to recognise the abuse in a spouse helps you recognise the abuse in a pastor 🙂
