Your sound guy should be commended, it's not easy getting this level of sound quality from an outdoor performance in an urban environment! KUDOS! soooo gooooood!
I don't believe it actually is a live, outdoor, one-mic recording. It just looks that way. For instance - notice how all the musical elements are perfectly mixed and balanced, yet there is no noise from the street behind them when traffic goes by during the melodica solo. I'm pretty sure the mic would be sensitive enough to pick that up.
This is LSD at their best! In a live setting where each part can be clearly heard, mixed largely on the fly by the individual players/singers. The sparseness. I mean, yeah, Rachael's killin' it for sure, some of her best singing ever, and Aki's ridiculous on whatever that thing is, but it's the blend, how they all know how loud to be and when, that kind of thing. That's what makes these people historically good. I'm just happy that they can afford to be what they are in these times!
Ok, no argument at all that this is a fantastic performance. Just want to say that there is a sound engineer behind the camera that is doing killer job as well (unless one of them mixed this down)
Tough song. That’s why you are great. You always challenge your enormous talent. You have since In This Episode (still my fave..so raw and diverse). Thanks always from a loyal lover
Loved this song with the Pointer Sisters. What a beautifully good way of showing respect (imitation is the sincerest form of flattery) and uplifting hearts. Thank you, Lake Street Dive.
I've relished everyday for the last 4+ years after finding this great little band on YT! I still have such a crush on Rachel! Her voice is like a hot toddy on a cold winter night...👋👁💖👁👍
Leon - "Gladys you'll never guess ... who's BACK. Gladys - "These kids have been singing on it for over 10 years." "What's so special about our sidewalk?" Leon - "I don't know, but they sure can sing!"
WHY am I just finding out about you??? Wow. Sitting here at a Panera, studying, and here comes your song on the sound system: “Who do you think you are?” Where have you been all my life? LOVE LOVE LOVE your sound. Real. True. Organic. Very cool.
So fun!! My friends and I have been covering your music for 10 years in Boston ever since Want You Back came out, we love you! Thank you for doing what you do!
This is so cool... the first time I saw LSD you guys were on a sidewalk in Boston... slightly different lineup this time... you sound amazing, as always!
I’ll never forget the Jefferson, Charlottesville…y’all have a bass from heaven miss bridge Im madly in love with u❤ n the best drummer since Hal Blaine rus kunkel Carlton Barrett n Stewart the Copeland! I call him socks cause u came out in Sox bro it was epic that night in VA my band n I had been whoring ourselves out playing college bars n shit y’all were there took my girl at the time it was surreal seeing y’all ❤where’s Olson these days btw?
Have been listening for this amazing song for weeks now and found this live version outdoor. WOW what a preformance and a privileged to hear and see this! It sounds so good to my ears that you made me smile. Peace and love to you guys! :)
Interesting to hear the studio version after this ... but this, like a lot of famous sketches by renowned artists, is in many ways better than the polished version.
I have come to love the organic nature of quality musicians recorded in the moment. It seems like most studio recordings these days are tracked and then assembled. Often the vocals are tweaked to improve the pitch. Sure, the end result can be rather polished, but quality artists often seem to be at their best when captured in a live full-group take like what we have here. At least that has become my experience.
