tomscotland 🙏🙏🙏Robin
You have a great style of teaching Robin. I enjoy pulling up this video, amount others to practice a bit. My bass player friend is in a Gypsy Jazz Band here in NYC. He keeps telling me to get this stuff down and play some Django with him. I am nearly ready now. Been playing Jazz and Blues guitar for 40 years. Always loved Django, especially with Stefan Grapelli, who I met back in the late 70s at Reno Sweeny's in NYC. Saw him 7 nights in a row. Changed my life. He was playing with Oscar Peterson at the time. Great guys. Always thought I would have to cut off a couple of fingers to play like Django! LOL All good my friend. Very nice.
Now I am thinking about cutting the soundhole of my 67 Ovation Classical so it sounds more like a Gypsy Guitar. LOL, not. But it does sound pretty good with GJ style playing. Just a bit hollow compared to the guitar you are playing. I thought I had too many guitars. Now I have to pick up another. Have a great day!
amazing to see those guys night after night mate! Yes get inspired and start your gypsy jazz journey.. take it slow and any guitar with 6 strings will be perfect! Robin
This is just one of the many cool things we are learning in the GJ Transfusion Club. Just listen to how this simple idea transforms your own playing style to a more gypsy sound immediately.
Another brilliant lesson! Thanks Robin!

Hey Robin, I've been playing a while and listening to you and all the great guys that play this music and I've been on my own journey with trying to sound as "authentic" as I can. Your videos are incredibly helpful with learning repertoire and putting ammo in my lick bag. Thanks so much for imparting your easy-to-swallow wisdom!
Dom S hey Dom this is great to hear and i’m so glad the lessons are helping you! Keep an eye out for when we open the doors to The Gypsy Jazz Transfusion Club on Saturday. This could be something for you. Keep swinging! Robin
Best explanation of enclosure yet Robin. Finally got it! Cheers Andy Brown London
Andy Brown glad it helps Andy cheers! Robin
If you are serious about learning this style of guitar playing (and what wonderful guitarist does not admit to loving Django's music?), with useful spinoffs to any other style, and the most painless way of learning music theory relevant to performing it quickly, join the Transfusion Club.
so good that you're part of the Transfusion Club community Mark - happy to see you improve every time.
Another great video Robin. Thanks for adding clarity to what was previously, for me, a fumbling approach to this concept of enclosure.
Richard Sullivan glad it helps Richard! Robin
Gracias a tus buenísimos vídeos he comprendido por qué a los guitarristas clásicos en su mayoría, les cuesta tanto entender el jazz o gypsy jazz. El problema está en la digitación y el concepto del ritmo y las corcheas principalmente. Muchas gracias

THX so much ;°)
Little6ster welcome! Robin
Hi Robin. I'm new to Gypsy Jazz coming from a classical background. I'm puzzled about the use of a minor vs major sixth tone in your enclosure technique. You are using a half tone above and below the 5th, but are playing the prototypical minor sixth cord which uses a major 6th. I see this in transcriptions as well. Why the F instead of F# when enclosing the E? Thanks.
Andrew Wesely good point Andrew. So i’m using the Aminor harmonic scale which as you say has the F and not F#. The accompanying chord is Am6 so on paper doesn’t work. BUT in reality when you play at tempo using these chords and the harmonic minor scale you couldn’t tell the difference. In a ballad it could be different. Let me know if you need more help and check out the www.gypsyjazztransfusionclub.com this could be very helpful for you. cheers! Robin
wales, great Robin
chrwro welcome mate! Robin
Hi Robin nice lesson.I have a question.Enclosure definition is 1/2 step below and 1 tone scale above. It means for the tone scale it could either be 1/2 step or 1step above. On the Am chord you based your tone scale above on Am harmonic scale. On Dm chord the tone scale above is still based on Am harmonic scale or Dm harmonic scale? 🙏
Officially based on the Dm scale only question being if you use harmonic or melodic minor scale. Only effects the note above the 5th degree. Make sense?
@@GypsyJazzSecrets Thanks I think I understand your answer.Devils is in details. You are the only one who mentionned this explanation most of gypsy courses elsewhere just put by default 1 step above in enclosure which i think is not 100% accurate.
I think with your videos I just had a ah ah moment : it is better to start simple and outline the triads(R 3 5)or (R 3b 5)on chords and make music i.o trying difficult solo lines, more benefit on long term.
Recently I applied to your online course gypsy jazz club.I think it is high quality materials and you can learn a lot.(had to unsubscribde because of agenda issue but I will get back).Your books ' gypsy jazz song book' are as well great.Have them all.
And I appreciate a lot your quick feedback on a old post.
@@alainkempa2139 would be great to see you back in the club Alain we can get together on zoom and discuss all the details further cheers
Why just a maj E chord and not a 7th?
wanda James the enclosure doesn’t really work on the 7th. Simpler to just think of the triad.. there’s 9 notes in the mix as it is.
Thanks
wanda James welcome mate , Robin

Sorry Robin. For some reason my first comment came out twice. Either that or I've got chronic amnesia.
