Born and raised in NW Oregon and every small logging town has 100's of romeos walking around. These are our square toes. You nailed the history, I worked timber for several years and instead of wearing caulks too and from the crummy, you slip your romeos on instead. After I joined the military and moved around the world, I could pick out anyone from the NW if they were wearing romeos. We could almost have an immediate connection lol.

Thank you! I've been waiting for this video for a while now. A PNW native, a couple years ago I picked up a pair of the revamped version at my local whistle workwear, and I've always wondered how they were actually constructed. I do a lot of painting, drywall repair and baseboard work and these have been almost perfect for the light daily work I do. The leather has held up through the rain, daily dust, and paint splatter. I've had these going on 2 years and have only now cleaned and treated the leather with no cracking at all. The rubber around the outside has finally stared to peel and pull away from the stitching but I'm impressed with how well the upper has held up. The soles, as the video points out however, are the obvious down side of these boots and I'd love for them to make a high quality version so I don't have to contantly change out my insoles.

I'm an Electrical Engineer for Alabama Power, and I use the electrical hazard version of these exact boots. They're very easy to slip on and off so I can wear dress shoes in the office and these in the field. I used to use Twisted X laceups, but the constant tying and untying got absurdly annoying. Normal Electrical hazard work boots are also super thick, so it's like you're wearing platform shoes, whereas these still feel like normal shoe height.
There are complaints about this boot wrinkling weird because of the construction and I definitely agree, but it's easy to look past.
Unless these start falling apart really bad, they're gonna be my go to boot for a while.

I think i got a bout 2 years out of my works pair before the sole started to wear out. If I got them resoled I could probably get another year+ out of them. Plus I've only paid 60-80 for mine, so hard to beat what you get for that.

Boot suggestions: could we get a series/comparison of zero drop boots(a zero drop pair of these would be amazing!)? Especially including the Belleville Mini-Mil military boots, I'm really interested in those. Lems of course, Birkenstock, Altra, Xero, Sorel, Vibram, even Caterpillar has a zero drop, the 'Brode'(more of a steel toe work shoe, but deliberately zero drop none the less). That would very much be appreciated!

When I moved to the PNW from CA, everyone I saw wore these. I got a pair of the taller ones. Lasted for almost 3 years of serious beating in wet weather doing yard work, walking the dogs, being in the forest, etc. I exclusivly wear these if there is any chance of rain. They are kind of hot if the temperature is over 50 degrees. Finally wore through the interior lining on the heel and replaced them this week. On the fit, get the same size you would in a heritage boot. You will need a shoe horn to get them on the first time and they are super tight. But they loosen up significantly over their life and you'll regret going smaller. Break in for me is about two 3 hour wear sessions. The best bang for buck waterproof boot you can get in my mind.

These are cushion-y enough to be on a concrete floor all day, no laces to burn up from falling sparks, thick enough to resist abrasion, and they come off easy when I get home after work. The only drawback is the height. I really with the taller version (Chelsey boot??) had the runner bumper along the edge.

I have a pair of the light brown Georgia boot Romeo’s, I paid about $10 more for the revamp model and they have been fantastic. The leather broke in quickly and has been more stain and scuff resistant than the standard model I had previously and the Amp insoles are night and day more comfortable. That said I have had to replace the insoles a couple times, they wear through around the ball of my foot after about 8 months. I’ve had the boots for 2 years now and they are holding up better than boots costing twice as much. The standard model I had a few years ago developed a hole where the rubber strip around the base of the upper pulled away where the toe crease is and it felt like the midsole had some delaminating, those were $45 boots as I recall, I was hesitant to pay double the price, but it seems like the manufacturing and materials have improved with the price.

I work in IT in a role that used to requre a lot of walking indoor and outdoors. Used to like to wear the Merrell slip-ons a lot but the last pair I had several years ago the quality had gone way down. I was looking for a better quality replacement for those and for the cost I landed on a pair of the Georgia Boot Romeos with a wedge sole. I've had them about three years and they are still holding up well, though now I usually just wear sneakers to work in when I can get away with it.
Much better than the merrells, very durable and the outer has done well.
For me the sole had a bit of an odd anomaly and I was hoping in this video you'd take them further apart. The insole seems to have some uneveness and is higher at the outer edges. Not sure if I wore that down or got used to it, but it was annoying at first since it made it feel like there was a valley underfoot at the center of the boot.

These are the only boots that can provide all day comfort from rental cars, greasy restaurant floors, airport TSA, walking the dog, and weekend choring. On hunting weekends these are also the go to when you get out of waders as they provide enough protections from the elements but comfortable enough to wear around a fire. I've owned 5 pairs and have no intention of stopping, I even recently got my gf a pair and she now wears these over her other pairs of chelsea boots ie blundstones

Really liked them for desk work and standing primarily, but when I transitioned to my current role walking 8-10 miles a day for 12 hours they didn’t work for me. Pretty bummed about it. Did you do anything different to make them work for you for on ladders?

Romeo boots are everywhere in the PNW. They are my non work boot. I own Georgia's and Danner's. Danners crafter romeos seem softer, but not as well built as Georgias. Love to see you review a pair of Danners vs Georgia's.

I use them as a kick around shoe or can dress up and down. It can hand some work all day in them. Takes about 3-4 days to break in for the heal and stretch

Nice looking boots. I would try those over another pair of Blundstones for my work. My current blunds are too heavy and bulky.

I wear romeo all the time when I don’t wear shorts. I work in an office. When I worked Costco wore them and loved them. Best all around shoe!

Second pair, btw. New a week ago. The glued-in insole was the death of my previous pair. In GREAT shape otherwise, but I wore through the insole. I'm starting this pair with additional insoles to fill the space (I have skinny feet) and to keep be able to replace the insoles instead of the boots next time.

While in the realm of footwear-themed months, I would love to see something like “deck-boot December” or something along the lines of that for the fellas in the commercial fishing industry

First time I saw this type of boot and heard the name Romeo was 1987 when I moved from PNW to Kodiak Alaska. They are quick to take off and last a several years. I've never resolved a pair, maybe I'll try that next time I'm thinking about replacing them.

You made a good point about lace height, but the main reason these were used in logging communities were because of the use of caulked boots. You couldn’t walk around wearing metal spikes on your feet after work, so the loggers would change out to the slip on “romeo” boot.

I do have 6 of 6" laceup version of these one of them are the square toe version. The oldest pair are 15 years old 4 of which do need resoles they most boots will last a long time of you clean and condition them with proper leather conditioning products. I did use 2 to 3 of my boots for warehouses/manufacturing work and rotating them throughout the work week.
I started wearing Georgia boots back in 1999. Two weeks ago I tried a pair of Wolverine boots that have a "waterproof" tag sewn into the boot but are not waterproof. So, I decided to go back to Georgia boots as they don't have "waterproof" in the description of the boots but as for my previous experience with these Georgia boots, I KNOW that they are waterproof as long as I treat them to a couple mink oil treatments before I wear them.

I wore mine in a weld shop. Great boots, no laces, tongue, or seams for sparks to get stuck in and burn your foot

I have had the 8 inch steel toes for 2 years and they have held up wonderfully. I like them for hot summer work (I work outside mostly in the country) since they breath much better than waterproof or gore-tex lace ups. They are probably too roomy for my low volume foot, which can suck with an extra pound of mud sticking to them, but hey- easy on, easy off, easy to clean, just fuss free. When I get back to my truck I throw them in the back and put on my Vans canvas slip ons for the ride home. Not bad in the city for winter, either.

I’ve had mine working around the yard for over 15 years. Found them on sale for 54 bucks yesterday so I bought 2 pair. I have boots that cost 400 plus but for some reason the are the most comfortable boots I own and don’t take 5 min to put on. 9 out of 10 considering the price.

Funny. I knew that everyone in the PacNW wore Romeo's (cuz' I live there), but I didn't know that they weren't popular in other parts of the country.
In one of the towns I grew up in, there was a local "gang", called the "Carps" (like the fish), who's uniform consisted of a logger shirt, Carhartt's, Suspenders, and Romeos! They would drive around in their pickups on Friday and Saturday nights looking for kids who were "different" to terrorize.
I myself don't wear Romeos, because I prefer a taller boot, but I do like the Georgia Boot Wellington, and have owned several pairs of those over the years.
