The Act Man You can only monetize the games so much before the industry takes a huge hit by the fan bases of so many. Monetizing from here on out may be the death of the gaming realm as we know it. I believe, anyway. They're not as fun anymore.
Computer Assisted Biologically Augmented Lifeform umm, the games right now are more about the story, in fact about 10 years earlier games had very lacking story.
2012: buys 10 dollar dlc which includes a few extra maps, some camos, and a zombies map (*cough* bo2 from personal experience) 2021: pays 25 dollars for one gun skin
I never had a problem with the previous DLC model. I would pay a couple bucks and get more content that was actually enjoyable. When my brother wanted me to buy him a 20 dollar skin from Fortnite for his birthday, I couldn't believe anyone would spend that much just for a single skin. There are genuinely good games for the same price or less but a single skin costs just as much.
@@rebelfriend9949 Same. DLC packs were GREAT. I know many say it split player bases and many were sick of console exculsibvity...but the content we got felt better, since the devs had to create great content for us to pay for...now since it's free, devs don't feel they need to put as much work in. Oh how the content system in games has fallen. #BRINGNBACKDLCPACKS/SEASONPASSES
When you consider the fact that the gaming industry is now the highest-grossing entertainment industry, making even more money than movies now, I have a hard time accepting the "video games are too expensive to make" excuse. In addition to sponsorship deals and product tie-ins, these major publishers are also notorious for doing everything they can to overwork their developers for as little pay and benefits as they can legally get away with. Is anyone out there actually stupid enough to think these megaconglomerates like EA and Activision-Blizzard are so hard up for cash that they just _need_ to exploit consumers with glorified gambling in the form of lootboxes, carve out content to resell it as DLC, sell false promises in the form of season passes, and deliberately make games as tedious and grindy as possible to push microtransactions? The only people who would defend this are shills, or idiots who don't want to admit they're suckers. Fuck anyone who defends this shit. It's like falling in love with your rapist.
Lol... that analogy. But yea, absolutely agreed. The problem is that a tiny tiny minority of gamers make up over 60% of microtransaction purchases. When I say tiny... I mean less than 1% of gamers are the main chunk of the problem. Until our government see's fixed cost endless production value models as the detriment they truly are to the economy and makes them illegal... we are pretty much stuck with this.
we need to start passing a law against this shit i know for a fact at least where im at certain parts of gambling are illegal aside from stuff that are somewhat skill based like blackjack and poker. but because of indian casino's they are allowed there but in terms of microtransactions they usually revolve around lootboxes(sometimes with different names) and are rigged harder then actual casinos make their slot machines. for example i have never gotten anything good from lootboxes i used to buy them all the time on csgo for the slim slim slim slim chance to make money but never got anything out of it... but at the casino i went to twice so far btw ive only won money on their slot machines specifically 1 that i picked which has like 10 different ways to win in terms of multiple special events that can occur on the machine so its also more enjoyable... lol me and my mom went there at like 10 pm and were there till 3 or 4 am on that 1 slot machine btw i started on it with only 20 dollars. by the end i made 120 and there was lots of bouncing around but the point is i kept winning and losing over and over again where as the lootboxes in games i havent won a single good thing out of them. also what the games are doing with their gambling is or at least should be completely illegal rated M games are for people age 17+ while we know kids play these games too the company doesn't have liability for them since their parents have to buy that game for them or at least the game isnt advertised for them, however from what ive seen most casinos for gambling and i believe the laws state you have to be at the minimum in some places 18 to gamble and in others 21. so considering these microtransactions are world wide since its part of the game and rated M which means lowest age is 17 they are illegal distributing gambling to people under the age of 18. am i wrong about this? if im not why does the rules not apply to EA or any other company making a game with gambling like this in it? its literally the same concept.... except your stealing younger kids money as well kids who are not even nearly old enough to have self control with purchases... even some adults have this problem so allowing kids to gain a early gambling addiction is just morally wrong if not illegal.
i should also mention there are games with a even lower rating meaning even younger kids playing that have pay to win or microtransactions in it taht involve gambling and these games are mobile games that do that shit and they are probably the sole cause of all this bullshit happening in triple A games now and then when people get mad about something like diablo turning into a mobile game or EA with command and conquer mobile game(i think that was EA?) people are outraged and then these fuckers come out and say.. well you know phones are very powerful and there are millions of people who play these games we need to start seeing them as just as good as regular games(something along those lines) and then all i can think of is how my phone can barely handle a screen where you get rich in game by doing nothing just having that open for less then 30 minutes heats my phone up to where i feel like its going to explode.... yep phones are indeed powerful i totally agree 100% and these mobile games man they are going to ruin the entire gaming industry if they keep up this shit... the sad thing is EA's microtransactions are worse then the ones i find on mobile.... all the mobile games i play are pretty good deals and the games are all free to play to start. like marvels contest of champions the first purchase i made and i though it was a good deal it was like a 3 star deadpool for 5 dollars of some shit and you also got a couple premium crystals with a guaranteed 3-4 star character. i find that incredibly better then battlfront 2 or some other shit that is random and costs just about the same and it doesn't even force you to do that shit.. the game offers plenty of chances to easily get those premium crystals without paying money and even if you don't get there every week they have characters you can get for free if you have lots of characters you have collected over the time you have played and ive gotten those characters pretty easily when i was playing it more. so the fact a mobile game can get the microtransactions right but EA fails to do that especially since their games cost fukcing 60 dollars is just depressing to see
at least it seems like because of the outrage people have with EA its at least starting to be talked about on what to do about it... if enough outrage happens us gamers will make everyone else see how it should be illegal
and that is why people support indie dev. But not all indie dev are good. Survival ark dev trying to milk the game. And those who upload unfinished unity games onto steam that got greenlight

Aside from loot boxes yea. Gamers complain but keep spending money, or parents remain apathetic and just shell out the cash instead of dealing with a tantrum. Like an addiction they just can't put microtransactions down.

Exactly. When age of legends. (A mobile and facebook app) was closing down. They wanted to sell people micro-transactions. Which would have been unusable. After the servers went offline. Must think we are stupid.
Sean Zenk the worst part is that game company’s know half of there players base are teen who live with there parents who will 100% won’t get it or they know and they will say no for that
I hate when games have micro transactions but what makes me really really mad is when there’s literally no way to get and grind for an item without paying
Dankus Memus Not Helioskrill anymore, it was so hard to get and I felt so rewarded once I got it. But then they had to add it into Requisition Packs...
Butthole Licker yeah they actually put the normal version in the drops too. I got all the items and i got helioskril and didnt do anything to earn it its pretty bs
Unfortunately the only thing I can see this really doing is just making any game with a gambling system in it an automatic 18 but who actually pays attention to age restrictions anyway. That or developers will straight out just not release those games or implement some other dlc method in the UK versions, kinda like how all german versions of games have been edited to remove the Nazi symbol.
Brian Salas No we're not, we signed a petition and the government responded basically saying it's not gambling so they're not doing anything about it. Guns N' Games games still are being released there, they just remove the lootboxes, i.e. apex legends battlepass gives you lootboxes, but in belgium they removed the lootboxes from the rewards and instead you get crafting materials so you craft whatever skin you want
That is what I can't accept at times. Plus I don't support the idea of microtrans should be abolished at least towards f2p games cause in that kind of case either you make an in app or for mobile phone games an ads and/or in apps otherwise you are left penniless regardless how the devs delivers the in-apps. Sadly what infuriates me the most are some gamers who complains about f2p mobile games having microtrans or use certain gacha mechanic which as scummy as it is given the conditions it is toleratable
Just Some Guy without a Mustache I'd say "Always On" was a pretty close 2nd. And IMO it's far more damaging and frustrating to gaming than. microtransactions
Dang, this video just said EVERYTHING that I have been thinking for the past couple years since microtransactions were making it into our AAA, full price games and how scummy of a business practice it is! Great vid man keep up the great work.
Theres three types of microtransactions Pay to Win: Like Battlefront 2 EA. Manipulative Cosmetic. These are microtransactions that aren't pay to win because they're cosmetic, but they try to be very manipulative to get you to buy more Non Manipulative: just cosmetic microtransactions. They don't try to shove it all down your throat and be all crazy, they're just there if you wana buy em (Like unturned) If game companies are gona add microtransactions, please keep them non manipulative
Warframe has non manipulative hell even you are not forced to buy there currency there is a market site which you can trade resources for platinum problems is that its gonna take a month or weeks if you are lucky and you have to grind them.
Almost 2 years later, and this video is still so relevant. Its sooo SOOO sad! what has happened to our beloved games? Throwing skill out the window in favor of buying power.
ThatOneGuyAgain how does that need explaining? Pay to win. The kid has a puzzle, but too lazy to put the effort to complete it so pay money to be completed for them. But then they have nothing else to eo
DJAlley more like; Mom: hey I got you a puzzle while I was out. Son: oh cool, can I play with it now? Mom: sure, but you need to give me £20. Son: but I don't have £20? Mom: exactly you little shit.
I never buy anything unless: 1. The game itself is free and good enough for me to play it for a long time. 2. It's not pay to win. 3. If I spend money on a skin I want that skin, not a 5% chance of getting it which means *no lootboxes* .
I remember playing the free to play a game known as Hawken it was a great game and I earned the mech I wanted through gameplay instead of buying something
I'm ok with apex legends. Its free to play and has no pay to win factors. Plus if you want a certain cosmetic so badly you can buy it straight up without lootboxes. But it has a demon, called heirlooms. Like csgo they are elusive melee cosmetics that have a varey rare chance to appear from random drop boxes. But the game is fun and its all I play so meh, who needs melee cosmetics.
@@chillknight3940 'no pay to win factors' Most of apex's characters are behind a paywall. Even if you try to grind out enough to be able to get them for free it would take hundreds of hours. So it's basically alot like when starwars battlefront 2 first came out, the only difference being battlefront 2 removed the pay to win.
I'm the highest level in Call of Duty WWII, played it for 2 years with around 500 hours logged in and I still do not have all of the weapon variants because of the amount of duplicates you get and other useless items like pistol grips, weapon charms, and sights. Wyatt Clark. Thats the thing, The witcher 3 and divinity original sin 2 do this without any need for microtransactions, in the form of adifficulty (basically a less grindy and easier game-mode). Yet all those AAA cannot afford to do it without microtransactions?
I like how tf2 handles it's cosmetics and crates, seeing as you already get the base weapons via the drop system and trading, and everything else is either a cosmetic or a stat clock, I don't really like how MvM works as you essentially pay to play something and get rng at the end, but at least you can play the mode for free and just not get the rewards
The worst part about it is that even when you tell people about this, they just hit you with the "You're looking too deep into it" or call you a conspiracy theorist. People will remain willfully ignorant just to stroke their own ego, trying to justify their shitty purchase by downplaying what you say.
it's no longer a conspiracy theory as more people and even BUSINESS owners and CORPORATE figures admit that this is a shitty but LEGAL practice to do. This is generally LEGALIZED gambling in games, it's not a conspiracy, just a REAL fact the video stated, it's scummy, but legal, and why corporations do it, humans are ALL idiotic GAMBLERS!
Mike 649Foxx Well micro transactions always give you something in return for your purchase where normal world gambling can take away all your money without any profit for yourself. So micro transactions and normal world gambling are not the same thing.
Why do you defend this shit? Why are you and people like you, so fucking blind when it comes to what this shit is doing to games? Are you very young? Do you not understand the value of money yet? Do you not remember a time when micro transactions were not a part of games? It is gambling as it appeals to all of the same subconscious emotions and can leave you broke with essentialy fuck all to show for it. I don't care about legal definitions, it is what it is and it's killing gaming.
Catherine Wallace Never said it wasn’t gambling. Comparing micro transactions exactly to real world gambling is a huge flaw. By your logic buying a new hairspray and not getting what you expected would be like a slot machine. As a fan of games I like micro transactions since it lets me enjoy the game more, and at my pace. Face the music, if you can’t control your own urges you will be taken advantage of by any business.
Mobile games ruined video games, thanks to the microtransactons in mobile games Developers for console and PC games decided to input this crap, it's one thing to put micro transactions in f2p games but for a $60 game there should be NO microtransactions if they make the game easier.
The thing with mobile games is what most of them are free to play. And those games can be good. Trust me. But the thing is that developers need to get their money back, and this is there microtransactions come in.

TBH pretty great game, and the only ones that cry are journos and people that have not played it (or hated Mordor and they want to be cool by hating so more). SoW is IMO the best sequel of the last years, and if you liked the first one and are either ok with having fun grinding orcs to your army or not finishing the "true ending" yourself but watching Uruks Hollow tearing through the last parts of the game then go for it.
MajkaSrajka it's not "the true ending" it's just the ending. The people bitching about that are retarded. The game has 4 acts, the game is not over until all 4 acts are done. I don't play until the last level of any other game and then bitch about having to finish the last level, so i dont get why people are doing that here.
Fallen Deus Yeah, the "true ending" was the language used before the game released, and I'm not fully aware of the entire drama around it. All I know is some people dislike SoM/SoW to the point where something that from my understanding was supposed to be achievement that you have work towards, they yell "grinding" (and "microtransactions") and try to make fuss around it. IMO SoW has way too much bad press than it deserves.
Dota 2 as well, all of the MTs are cosmetics, and although there are cosmetics that are "locked" behind a subscription of sorts, you can get 90 percent of them from the community market and they are usually dirt fucking cheap

Sometimes, the dawn of micro transactions makes me glad that some games didn't live to see a remaster. Better to die a legend than come out of retirement in the worst possible way.
Lil Rebel that's the future of the gaming industry. A perfect mimicry of the movie industry. Prepare for a remake of ocarina of Time where your have to pay real money to unlock a new song. Luke Frederiks i bought shadow of war without doing any research on it ahead of time. traded it in for like $15 a few days later. last time i make that mistake.
The sad thing is. If nobody bought microtransactions, they would stop using them. If they don't make their money back, it's wasted development time and budget. People have the power to end this so easily just stop buying them.
ZECU no, it's not the players fault, TheShwantz27 made an excellent video detailing it, I think it was called Zombie lies, microtransactions, it used BO3 as the example game
Interesting, so the way he sees it: If players don't buy microtransactions the company will just double-down on them until the game is practically unplayable without them. Gotta admit I do see his point. When Destiny the Taken King came out, the base game was stripped of most of its content to force the people who didn't even want to the DLC to buy it just so they can enjoy the base game's content again. At that point players aren't left with many options, they have to either abandon the game or give in. I do see your point. But this kind of aggressiveness can really hurt a companies reputation. If a companies response to boycotting microtransactions is to double-down on them, that really doesn't look good. Not buying them helped a bit in that aspect. And once your reputation sinks low enough it starts to affect sales, look what happened to COD last year. You have changed my mind a bit with this video though. I still don't recommend buying microtransactions for obvious reasons.
ZECU If I played a game that doubled down on the microtransactions like that, I'd stop playing and strongly urge others to do the same. If the developers/publishers want to kill the game for everyone who doesn't want to play, then fine, consider the game killed.
How to fix this terrible industry for 2019: 1) Never buy anything from Activision, EA, Konami, Ubisoft, nor Warner Bros (if there is any other publisher you don’t like, add them to this list). Any game from them now will have ruined potential and will always be badly designed on purpose to sell microtransactions, lootboxes, and cheat codes. Create the stigma that anything with these publisher’s name on it is a lesser product because it’s true. If you absolutely NEED to have one of their games but still want to get it legally, wait about a year until the game is on sale with included DLC or (preferably) buy a used copy. 2) Never pre-order any game. Waiting until the game comes out to give them money will force them to make sure it’s a functioning, bug-free (as possible), complete game. 3) Wait until said publishers are downscaled/bankrupt from lack of sales. Even if they change their ways after suffering financial struggles, they’ll just go back to their current agenda once they’re back on top again. Let them burn in bankruptcy. They never cared about you. Don’t give them the satisfaction. 4) Wait until they’re forced to sell IPs and franchises to better publishers in order to cut costs from going under. Developers let go from this should also be given employment opportunities from said publishers. This is, unfortunately, the only drawback to this plan as there’s no telling what will happen to said franchises and developers. 5) Support indie creators and lesser known studios who might not be creating the most visually impressive games but clearly have passion for the product they put on shelves rather than creating games for the sake of earning money. 6) Spread. This. Message. Feel free to copy/paste this comment anywhere it’s relevant! Anyone who says “this won’t work” is doing EXACTLY what these publishers want. The moment you give up and think uniting against exploitative and terrible business practices is fruitless is the moment you lose. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. This has worked before and it will work again.
also known as: how to put thousands of people out of their jobs what i would do is just get everyone to stop buying micro transactions and unfinished games, and once the company starts realizing they need to fix it everyone can go back to having a good time on good games. if they try to put micro transactions back in the game? stop playing it, or if you enjoy it too much, just dont buy the micro transactions. if they have them in from the start or they release unfinished games again? dont buy them. eventually theyll learn that if they add in micro transactions itll ruin their business. our job isnt to destroy these companies, its to make them improve. call of duty wont improve if activision goes bankrupt, but it will improve if we cut down their profits on the unfinished or micro transaction ridden games.
@@atakina So what if it puts people out of jobs? They just move to another job for a better company. No biggie. Don't defend trash companies like this.
I think the only way to really stop this phenomenon is to: - Never pay for microtransactions. - Never give any form of microtransaction a pass. Paying for microtransactions obviously encourages them, but I think another huge problem is people giving stupid reasons for letting microtransactions off the hook (they are paying for DLC, they aren't intrusive, they only affect this mode). Microtransactions are never pro-consumer, they are only ever in the interests of the producer's financial whims. Once we get over this awful trend of excusing certain forms of microtransaction (Halo 5's REQs and Overwatch's Skins as an example), we will finally be one step closer to killing this scourge.
People who buy into transactions, buy the lottery, or go gambling with the expectation to make money are just plain stupid. They never see how the system is rigged - how its always set up in a way such that there is enough useless garbage to dilute the pool of good stuff. Most people have next to no self control, this is why we see such a huge percentage of obesity in developed countries. This is how some people allow themselves to become like 500 pounds. Obesity, gambling, lottery, fast food, much of the snacks food industry, all of these systems are interconnected and built on the fact that people are too stupid to control themselves. They see a skin, or a knife that counts kills, or a gold desert eagle, or a candy bar, etc. and they want it, they continue going for it until they get it. Theyre too stupid to see the logic in it. Ive tried to convince some of my friends how its totally rigged and is ruining video games but they just dont see it or dont care, and they have no self control to stop it. Its rigged so well that a kid can buy csgo for 15$, then waste thousands of hours on it, paying for a new crate every few hours, racking up hundreds over time. The parent never sees a problem with it because "oh its just like 15$ and a few hours a week". Until parents realize how much time these games waste and refuse to allow their kids to play them, or the government intervenes, nothing will happen. These business fuckers are immoral and know what theyre doing and will push it to the limit on the stupid masses.
AND NEVER BUY THE GAME TO BEGIN WITH. IF YOU BUY THE GAME BUT STILL ALLOW THEM TO HAVE MICRO TRAKSACTIONS IN THE GAME....YOU ARE STILL PART OF THE PROBLEM. THIS WILL ALLOW THEM TO KEEP PUTTING THEM IN THE GAME FOR SUCKERS. NEVER BUY THE GAME AT ALL THAT HAS MTX. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THEM. NEVER PLAY OR BUY A GAME WITH MTX...PERIOD!!!
Majestic I agree that the current micro transaction model is terrible, but as Extra Credits said, its either that or pay ninety to a hundred dollars for a new game. Games cost a LOT to make now
I'll explain why microtransactions are a problem: If I buy a game for $30 or $60, I want ALL the content I paid for, without spending more money and more time. The game isn't cheap and it isn't free to play, why are you making me pay $15 more for a skin? Why do I have to grind an entire month for 30 loot boxes with 2 legendary skins in total, for characters that I don't even play with? People who defend microtransactions on PAID games are exactly why they keep making it. Imagine buying a car but they say "You can only have the color yellow. If you want your car blue, you'll have to pay more or spend an entire week unlocking other colors like red, black, gray and brown". And then they go away laughing and saying "Why are you mad? It's just cosmetics".
As long as the skin wasnt in the game at release, i dont see a problem there. And even if a game is paid, if its a multiplayer, they have to pay for the servers so they need more money.
@Lazer I am against lootboxes, because it is a kind of gambling. In an Singleplayer game that, except for bugfixes, doesnt gets updated with new content you are right, there should'nt be extra things to pay for. But if they make more than bug-fixes in the game, then they put not needed effort in the game which has to be paid. In a multiplayer game you paid for the state of the game at release (+bugfixes). And normally in a multiplayer game you want to get new updates, new game modes etc. after release. And you get them. Some for free, some don't. Mostly those don'ts areskins. So the devs still get mney for there work+ server upkeep and the player keeps getting updates. So a win-win situation.
Phantom Lord How about letting us buy exactly what we want? I played a lot of MOBAs for more than 7 years, and in all of them I spent at least 150$ on skins and other things. I got exactly what I wanted, the company got their money, the servers are up and running, everyone happy. There is absolutely no excuse for random rewards anymore. The games industry survived for more than a decade with "buy what you want" mechanics, and anything above that is called GREED.
the only good reason when making someone pay for a aleardy paid game is when it changes your experience , gta 4 ( eflc ) , far cry 3 ( blood dragon ) , bf bc2 ( vietnam ) and oblivion ( shievering isles )

As long as it doesn't affect gameplay. But srsly fellow console and especially PC-players... Remember 10 years ago or even sooner? A game was patched and updated WITH new content! New Maps and guns and shit for FREE because you payed for that godamn game and they cared about their fans and community. Now they are blood leeches suiting up for big meetings about Whale-hunting (getting certain players to spend all the money!) They want all the money. All of it. These AAA-competative games don't want originality or ground breaking shit. They just want to sell something and milk your wallet. Protest by not spending shit on their shit.
I realised how evil the micro transaction system was when I was younger and the games managed to exploit me into dropping $100 on loot boxes and packs.
Also definetely no p2w mechanics. For fucks sake you can't play any mobile rpgs because of this shit. Only fgo was not like that. Seriously why the fuck someone 10lvls lower than me can beat me with a 200 dollar sword? Games are escapism fun that should be fair for all not a "who can dump most money in a pit?" contest!
Twitchy I'd rather buy Battlefront 2 for $60 and no season pass since I have the self control to skip MTs. But some people can't, and sometimes MTS do take away from the game. For BF2 though, EA/Dice say the most powerful items will be unlock-only, and most others will require unlocks to use. So maybe, just maybe BF2'S MTs will be okay.

@@IlDeimos (starts playing Saria's song on my personal Ocarina) I think there might be a small part of me that remembers those beautiful times. Yeah, unfortunately the modern gaming community has just become a nightmare. As much as I hate to admit it, because it is an amazing concept and incredibly fun, I think that online gaming was one of the worst things to happen to the gaming community.
Modern Warfare 2020 did it so well in my opinion, you get exclusive content like gun blueprints that come with a few attachments and a skin as well as tracers. The advantage you get from those is only 3-5 attachments that you would’ve had to earn by playing that gun. In other words, the advantage is minimal.
People are lowering their expectations for video games every year. If a game costs too much to make and you're considering adding microtransactions to compensate- then *don't make the game!*
Jester Jay its not about not making the game. It's about letting the game take longer. Sure it will increase the cost a bit but what drives the sales is quality, and good release Windows. The predominance of DLC's and microtransactions is just a desperate attempt by publishers to force fewer people into paying way more. With large sales you dont have to force microtransactions down the throat of people. If used well it is a fantastic tool that allow people to trade time for money if they dont have the nessesary time to properly play the game. But more often than not publishers see this as an opportunity to make fewer content and charge for it if you dont want to spend 3 years getting there without paying.
Jester Jay I agree with your point however micros for purely cosmetic items is understandable it will take art guys a lot of time to design 50 costumes for one character so if customization is your thing you should pay if it's not AAA there's no excuse for them to even see a AAA that's greed pure and simple
I miss the days when games came out with 100% content and the game wasn't totally broken and having to wait for updates and patches to fix everything they fucked up
“So I paid full price for this game” EA:yeah “And you never had to further expand development on this game” EA: yes “So that must mean that you agreed to give me the full game at that price when you sold it” EA: seems right to me “So give me the full game” EA: pay $99.99 for the lootbox
@a normal everyday Spider EA for some reason doesn't force Respawn to put microtransactions in their games. Also EA didn't make either of those games, they just published them.
@Kekela Apex Legends is FTP. It needs microtransactions to survive. And Star Wars Fallen Order doesn't have any microtransactions at all. I don't think EA even asks what Respawn is working on.
@Kekela What platform are you playing on? Titanfall 2 on both PS4 and PC aren't dead. I can get in a game in about 1 minute. And if EA really had a hand in Apex Legends, the microtransactions would go beyond just skins. And nowadays, microtransactions are in every game and every genre. It doesn't matter if it's singleplayer it will probably have microtransactions. This is the gaming industry now.
The saddest thing is, if people didn't buy them, the companies wouldn't keep putting them in. The problem lies not only with the greedy companies, but with the uninformed and/or impulsive consumers. If everyone took a step back and gave a moment to think about what they're buying, this shit wouldn't fly. But alas, there will always be people who don't care, or don't understand, or don't think it's that big of a deal to buy this crap. I'll always see loot boxes as vapid, meaningless, hollow, and greedy. I'm proud I can still say I've never ever purchased a loot box with real money and I never will.
The only time I use real world money in a game is just to buy a DLC map for some of the older cods. Never gonna spend money on loot boxes. If I had as much money as Trump and used all that money for loot boxes, I would probably get 1 thing I actually wanted
This is why I don't buy triple A games anymore they're a complete money dump. Plus the fact that my family's poor as shit doesn't help II just avoid them altogether even if it means I can't play COD with my friends.
Most of the time micro-transactions are never justifiable unless; 1. Your game is free to play. 2. Your items are strictly cosmetic and you don't add retarded re-colors of said cosmetic to make your item harder to get. 3. Half or 3/4 of the profits made from micro-transactions MUST go to making additional content for the game to increase the its longevity and this said content also MUST be above average.
Much of the problem the gaming industry suffers from is the fact that gamers out there actually *buy* loot boxes or microtransactions. We can't fix the problem unless we, the customers, stop buying into it. If we continue to buy these loot boxes and such, we're telling them that it's ok to exploit us. And yet, you know what some of the top comments I see on RUclips videos are when it comes to video games? "Give us more dlc". People are actually *demanding* microtransactions.
I feel MP games should have a casual mode, you wont appear on the leader boards but everything is unlocked. This would be great for those of us who just want to jump in and play a few rounds every now and then. Still remember playing the old Battlefield games (Primarily BF Vietnam), you didn't have to make an account, just enter a username. Heck sometimes people just left it as the default, had three people named "Player 1" in a match once! Heck the game didn't even keep track of your stats between rounds, there were 3rd party sites for that!
Gamers are stupid though, don't bother trying to make a point they can't understand. How many years were people basically begging us not to pre order, and what happens? People get excited to pre order said game.
Some might want microtransactions. No one wants lootboxes. Did you watch the video? He already pointed out why people are suckered into this. The addiction is real. It is psychology being put into action. This is why we have gambling laws. Laws have to change and declare lootboxes as gambling or at least face the same scrutiny as gambling.
Thanks for pointing out the personal Pinnochio politics of publishers like EA lol The way you phrased that was awesome. _It's illegal for minors to gamble unless it's in a video game._ 😂😂😂

Dr shaym, my man
we need to start passing a law against this shit i know for a fact at least where im at certain parts of gambling are illegal aside from stuff that are somewhat skill based like blackjack and poker. but because of indian casino's they are allowed there but in terms of microtransactions they usually revolve around lootboxes(sometimes with different names) and are rigged harder then actual casinos make their slot machines. for example i have never gotten anything good from lootboxes i used to buy them all the time on csgo for the slim slim slim slim chance to make money but never got anything out of it... but at the casino i went to twice so far btw ive only won money on their slot machines specifically 1 that i picked which has like 10 different ways to win in terms of multiple special events that can occur on the machine so its also more enjoyable... lol me and my mom went there at like 10 pm and were there till 3 or 4 am on that 1 slot machine btw i started on it with only 20 dollars. by the end i made 120 and there was lots of bouncing around but the point is i kept winning and losing over and over again where as the lootboxes in games i havent won a single good thing out of them. also what the games are doing with their gambling is or at least should be completely illegal rated M games are for people age 17+ while we know kids play these games too the company doesn't have liability for them since their parents have to buy that game for them or at least the game isnt advertised for them, however from what ive seen most casinos for gambling and i believe the laws state you have to be at the minimum in some places 18 to gamble and in others 21. so considering these microtransactions are world wide since its part of the game and rated M which means lowest age is 17 they are illegal distributing gambling to people under the age of 18. am i wrong about this? if im not why does the rules not apply to EA or any other company making a game with gambling like this in it? its literally the same concept.... except your stealing younger kids money as well kids who are not even nearly old enough to have self control with purchases... even some adults have this problem so allowing kids to gain a early gambling addiction is just morally wrong if not illegal.
i should also mention there are games with a even lower rating meaning even younger kids playing that have pay to win or microtransactions in it taht involve gambling and these games are mobile games that do that shit and they are probably the sole cause of all this bullshit happening in triple A games now and then when people get mad about something like diablo turning into a mobile game or EA with command and conquer mobile game(i think that was EA?) people are outraged and then these fuckers come out and say.. well you know phones are very powerful and there are millions of people who play these games we need to start seeing them as just as good as regular games(something along those lines) and then all i can think of is how my phone can barely handle a screen where you get rich in game by doing nothing just having that open for less then 30 minutes heats my phone up to where i feel like its going to explode.... yep phones are indeed powerful i totally agree 100% and these mobile games man they are going to ruin the entire gaming industry if they keep up this shit... the sad thing is EA's microtransactions are worse then the ones i find on mobile.... all the mobile games i play are pretty good deals and the games are all free to play to start. like marvels contest of champions the first purchase i made and i though it was a good deal it was like a 3 star deadpool for 5 dollars of some shit and you also got a couple premium crystals with a guaranteed 3-4 star character. i find that incredibly better then battlfront 2 or some other shit that is random and costs just about the same and it doesn't even force you to do that shit.. the game offers plenty of chances to easily get those premium crystals without paying money and even if you don't get there every week they have characters you can get for free if you have lots of characters you have collected over the time you have played and ive gotten those characters pretty easily when i was playing it more. so the fact a mobile game can get the microtransactions right but EA fails to do that especially since their games cost fukcing 60 dollars is just depressing to see
at least it seems like because of the outrage people have with EA its at least starting to be talked about on what to do about it... if enough outrage happens us gamers will make everyone else see how it should be illegal

Its Kiwi
Just typical people
it's no longer a conspiracy theory as more people and even BUSINESS owners and CORPORATE figures admit that this is a shitty but LEGAL practice to do. This is generally LEGALIZED gambling in games, it's not a conspiracy, just a REAL fact the video stated, it's scummy, but legal, and why corporations do it, humans are ALL idiotic GAMBLERS!
Anyone who uses microtransactions is killing gaming. This shit needs to be exposed as gambling right now.
+Keiren Parmley So I guess if a slot machine was always guaranteed to give you at least a penny it wouldn't be gambling?
Catherine Wallace well said!

No, GAMERS did, no matter what games they play on what platforms, GAMERS paid for MTX, GAMERS are responsible..
The thing with mobile games is what most of them are free to play. And those games can be good. Trust me. But the thing is that developers need to get their money back, and this is there microtransactions come in.

MajkaSrajka it's not "the true ending" it's just the ending. The people bitching about that are retarded. The game has 4 acts, the game is not over until all 4 acts are done. Yeah, the "true ending" was the language used before the game released, and I'm not fully aware of the entire drama around it. Yup, cool rewards for meaningful actions. That's the way to go.
Ok I'll watch it.
That's what I would do as well. Honestly that's the equivalent of giving the players a middle finger.
How to fix this terrible industry for 2019:
1) Never buy anything from Activision, EA, Konami, Ubisoft, nor Warner Bros (if there is any other publisher you don’t like, add them to this list).
This has worked before and it will work again.
also known as: how to put thousands of people out of their jobs
what i would do is just get everyone to stop buying micro transactions and unfinished games, and once the company starts realizing they need to fix it everyone can go back to having a good time on good games. if they try to put micro transactions back in the game? stop playing it, or if you enjoy it too much, just dont buy the micro transactions. if they have them in from the start or they release unfinished games again? dont buy them.
eventually theyll learn that if they add in micro transactions itll ruin their business. our job isnt to destroy these companies, its to make them improve. call of duty wont improve if activision goes bankrupt, but it will improve if we cut down their profits on the unfinished or micro transaction ridden games.
Yeah by the way many indie that sucessful go to church of ea becouse the game too sucessful that they forget what they are and yeah (pubg)

Damn crazy how old this video is and it’s still relevant, some things will never change I guess
I think the only way to really stop this phenomenon is to:
- Never pay for microtransactions.
Or stop buying games with microtransactions.
Majestic or this don't buy any games that have microtransactions within them unless they're absolutely for free
Majestic I agree that the current micro transaction model is terrible, but as Extra Credits said, its either that or pay ninety to a hundred dollars for a new game. Games cost a LOT to make now
The only thing I accept is when CD project red makes a witcher expansionpack that‘s the size of a new FRIGGIN GAME
Fynn what about Bethesda games dlc
fair enough the fallout 4 expansions like nukaworld were quite big
CDPR ruined their reputation with Cyberprank now.
This didn't age well
Or like when Naughty Dog was making DLC for Uncharted 4 and ended up making the entirety of The Lost Legacy
I'll explain why microtransactions are a problem:
If I buy a game for $30 or $60, I want ALL the content I paid for, without spending more money and more time.
Phantom Lord
How about letting us buy exactly what we want? I played a lot of MOBAs for more than 7 years, and in all of them I spent at least 150$ on skins and other things. I got exactly what I wanted, the company got their money, the servers are up and running, everyone happy. There is absolutely no excuse for random rewards anymore. The games industry survived for more than a decade with "buy what you want" mechanics, and anything above that is called GREED.
Pun Pun I said I am against lootboxes. Sorry if my english wasnt that clear
the only good reason when making someone pay for a aleardy paid game is when it changes your experience , gta 4 ( eflc ) , far cry 3 ( blood dragon ) , bf bc2 ( vietnam ) and oblivion ( shievering isles )

The advantage you get from those is only 3-5 attachments that you would’ve had to earn by playing that gun. In other words, the advantage is minimal.

But more often than not publishers see this as an opportunity to make fewer content and charge for it if you dont want to spend 3 years getting there without paying.
quality doesn't drive the sales; flashy pictures and marketing budget does
honestly I blame mobile gaming
Jester Jay I agree with your point however micros for purely cosmetic items is understandable it will take art guys a lot of time to design 50 costumes for one character so if customization is your thing you should pay if it's not AAA there's no excuse for them to even see a AAA that's greed pure and simple
+Omni Fluxx Honestly? I blame everyone who buys games with that shit in it. Simple as that.
Last time I was this early, you got the whole game when you bought it
really? That just makes no since
I know right? I mean, how did they even make money by selling whole games for only $60?!
neither does your spelling

100 GB day one patch will top that
For me it's the beautiful 20fps line like in cyberpunk
I miss the days when games came out with 100% content and the game wasn't totally broken and having to wait for updates and patches to fix everything they fucked up
“So I paid full price for this game”
EA:yeah
“And you never had to further expand development on this game”
EA: yes
“So that must mean that you agreed to give me the full game at that price when you sold it”
EA: seems right to me
“So give me the full game”
EA: pay $99.99 for the lootbox
@a normal everyday Spider EA for some reason doesn't force Respawn to put microtransactions in their games. Also EA didn't make either of those games, they just published them.
I think activision is worse after what they did to bo4.
@Kekela You're right, it doesn't sound right. Yet I don't see any greedy microtransactions in any of their games.
You can no longer buy Halo 6 directly, you need to buy golden req packs from halo 5 for a chance of unlocking a code for Halo 6!
dont give them ideas
Buy Halo 6 req packs to unlock campaign missions. Get 5 campaign keys of the same mission to unlock it.
Dupes give credits.
Asher Smasher well said.
Every gamer should watch this video and listen. Great video.👍

This is why I don't buy triple A games anymore they're a complete money dump. Plus the fact that my family's poor as shit doesn't help II just avoid them altogether even if it means I can't play COD with my friends.
How come when I buy a 50 cent pack of gum from the store it is labeled a transaction but $100+ loot boxes in games are labeled micro transactions
there's a thing called: the micro doesn't mean small in this case
At least the gum has a consistent flavor

Most of the time micro-transactions are never justifiable unless;

I agree with everything you just said
Much of the problem the gaming industry suffers from is the fact that gamers out there actually *buy* loot boxes or microtransactions.
Who says we are paying for microtransactions? I refuse to buy or even play games that have microtransactions in them!
Don't forget that a lot of games claim they wont have microtransactions, then add them a few months after release!
