    Thank you for this video! My prius was making the exact same sounds. Because of your video, I was able to go into the dealership more informed and aware of the problem. They could not fix the issue until all the brake light warnings lit up. Once those warnings came on, it was covered completely by Toyota. This saved me $4000!

      Check on toyota's website if you have extended warranty for the brake assembly, using your vin. I believe 2014 models were covered even before 2010 were. You may contact toyota's customer care as well.
      Your hydraulic brakes also are not engaging? Because when this happened to me, my hydraulic ones were working fine. But the brake pedal had that soft squishy feeling which made me felt like brakes are not engaging, but actually if I pressed hard enough, the hydraulic ones were engaging just fine.
      I am not saying that you should be driving with this condition, only trying to see if its similar issue or different.

      @@PP-qj1ez Thanks again for that info. Yes, the brakes are very spongy the hydro and regen are not working at all it is only the mechanical brakes that work and I had to limp it home this way. I will try and see what happens if I pressed the brakes harder if that does anything but I doubt it since I was pushing the brakes pretty hard just trying to get it to stop driving it home.

    **News Flash** Toyota has finally issued a Customer Support Program "ZJB" to cover the Prius 2010 Brake Booster and Booster Pump Assemblies. Issued August 9, 2018. The warranty is good until November 30, 2019, regardless of mileage, or 10 years/150,000 miles.
    Was having issues with my brakes for over half a year (making duck noises when pressing the brakes and not smooth braking), and they said it was most likely my brake booster, but would cost $3,000 to replace. I held off, until finally these same warning lights came on, took it into Toyota, and my service advisor said this program came out and Toyota will cover the repair. Warning the parts are limited, so one part is going to take 3 weeks to arrive. Toyota wouldn't let me drive the car off the lot, so they gave me a loaner for the 3 weeks.

    Same noise exactly, I believe its normal ,because that's sound last for 3 seconds after braking

  • @benhager2559
    @benhager2559 5 лет назад +19

    I'm pretty sure these are normal noises, I have a 2012 Prius V, the brake actuator cycles about every 15 to 20 seconds and it's been this way since I've owned it my car ,runs like it's brand new and it hasn't ever given me any problems, I have no dash lights that are on and no codes. My car has 200,000 miles on it. These cars do not use a vacuum assist system like a normal car since the engine does not run 100% of the time, they had to engineer a system to replace a vacuum system so that the brakes would operate when the engine is not running. This device keeps pressure in the brake system it acts in place of a vacuum booster. I'm pretty sure the noises that you're hearing are normal operation. Like I said my car does the exact same thing and doesn't have any problems. From what I gather you only have to worry about it if it doesn't stop, AKA it just continuously runs. If it continuously runs then I believe you have a problem. it seems a lot of people are paranoid about the cycling operation of this device but I'm almost positive it's nothing to worry about and perfectly normal.

      Thats not normal. Check if your vin is already part of the recall or you have received extended warranty letter from Toyota.if yes, you are good, Toyota will take care if it. If you are covered by Totoya's extended warranty / recall, you dong need to spend on it. Toyota will replace it for free. Even though you get an used part for cheap on ebay or so, (1) there's a good chance that the part was the replaced one due to this same reason, as there were so many priuses and other toyota lexus vehicles impacted by this. And (2) its not an easy replacement. I would recommend to get it done by a professional.

    I have this same noise in a 2015 prius. I assumed it was normal. The brake booster cycles on and off periodically? If so,, is the purpose to build pressure? If it's repeatedly cycling on-and-on again even when brake pedal is not pressed, I can see how that is not normal because it could mean insufficient pressure is constantly being sensed. What if it only happens when I push down the brake pedal?

    • @PP-qj1ez
      @PP-qj1ez  5 лет назад

      If the sound is not loud and too frequent, its normal. But if you hearing a loud noise everytime you push brake pedal, I believe it might be the same problem. No this one is not. If you get such sounds periodically, its normal. But if its too frequent ... like mine was after every few seconds, then somethings wrong with the brake actuator/booster assembly.

      @@PP-qj1ez thank you thats a big help. I just got a used 2013 3 days ago and it's my first one. Lots of new sounds, wasn't sure what I should be hearing. Is it an expensive fix?

      @@jaredlocke4300 yes. Its expensive. Being hybrid, there is no fix, but to replace the whole part. On an avg you are looking at $3k to $4k. Good news is that Toyota is aware that they had faulty brake actuators. They sent warranty letters covering this part for 8 or 10 years and 150k miles. Mine was initially not covered. I had to pay ard 3.5k for replacement. But after a few months I got letter that 2010 models are also covered and I can claim refund if already repaired. Which I got.

      @@PP-qj1ez fantastic. The dealership said some sound is normal. No failure warning is coming up and the sound isn't intense. He also mentioned the coverage you just did and my car only has 68k on it. So at least I know it's covered. Thank you so much!
