      @@Xavier-jj6tx The unlikeliest of pitchers threw a perfect game-Don Larsen-way back in 1956, 66 years ago. His mound opponent that day-Sal Maglie-would have been the better candidate, especially since had no hit the Phillies two weeks earlier. Maglie himself, was perfect, retiring the first 11 Yankee batters before Mickey Mantle hit a two out home run in the bottom of the fourth for the first hit of the game, and a 1-0 New York lead. Brooklyn's Sandy Amoros hit a fly ball in the exact same right field area of Yankee Stadium, but the ball went foul. Mantle also preserved Larsen's perfect game by backhanding a line drive to left center by Gil Hodges that would have gone for a home run at Ebbets Field.

    I'm telling you, that Mancini short hop saved the Astro's series. That's a guaranteed tie game, and looking at the runner heading to second on a 2 out hit? Probably a 4-3 Phillies lead headed into the 9th. McCormick's catch was great out in center in the 9th but that's a 2 run double all day.

      Bohm's play was incredible - this coming from a former third baseman (me 1960's). Maldonado is a great defensive catcher, but can't hit his hat size, and could not win a race against a 70 year old snail. He's not a five tool player, but is an assets to the Astros.

    • @cy5511
      @cy5511 Год назад

      Speaking as a Houston fan, I would've had Realmuto's game-winning HR take the spot for Bohm's throw. As well-executed a play as it was, to your point, Maldy is easy pickings running to first. The fact that Realmuto got that shot off of what was thought to be an un-hittable bullpen all through the postseason was one thing... But then you factor in that he got it off of Luis Garcia who was our extra innings hero back in Game 3 against the Mariners pitching 5 straight scoreless innings.
      That Realmuto HR was a big reality check for Houston. Given the sweeps in the ALDS and ALCS before, the home field advantage of MMP, and the all-around consensus that Houston was going to win it all and possibly make it look easy in the process... That was the first loss the Astros were handed during their entire championship run. It was a huge, sudden momentum shift that helped make this more of a competitive series.

    I don't know if the effect will be as long term as it has been with the Yankees, but the Astros broke the Phillies after the no-hitter. Alvarez stepped on the still healing wound. Nothing showed that more than Schwarber, of all people, trying a two out, two strike bunt in the eighth in Game 6.

      When I saw it happen I had no idea why Schwarber would be attempting a two-strike bunt (on a pitch that was so high and out of the strike zone to boot) ... I still don't have a clue as to why. But the way he immediately left the batter's box and headed straight to the dugout left me me with the impression that he knew the hopeless futility of the situation and had just given up.
