Note: I've been reading you guys comments and I find them extremely insightful, both ways. Feom what I see, I think the controversial aspect of their debut all together can be divided in multiple categories: the Lolita concept, the translation of the cookie song, their age (and maybe more).
As I explained in the video, I personally am not against young idol debuting in the industry, iys nothing new and I am not surprised anymore. As long as the concept is not not fitting the members age and maturity.
Like I said in the video, I did not get any visual clue from the MV that the concept, song or lyrics were sexualising them and if I didn't have any prior knowledge of the group, I probably wouldn't have picked up on the suggestive double meaning of cookie.
Which brings me to the question of translation and culture! Thank you btw to those who took their time to explain further the meaning of cookie in Korean and what that word is used for etc.
I find it really interesting to see the contrasting reaction between the international audience (mainly English speaking) and Korean audience. It definitely shows that sometimes, meaning gets lost in translation and it is hard to translate with a cultural lens (if that even makes sense). I suppose as International fans, we have to remember that Korean songs, in Korean come with cultural bagage that we are not necessarily aware of. But I also believe that it is partially the labels responsibility to avoid this kind of controversy, especially considering the age of the members and knowing that a large portion of the audience will be International.
What do you think?

I think companies know very well what they showcases to sell wether good or bad based on people opinions as long as it draws “attention”. It is not surprising as many of them employs it a marketing strategy that works time after time in many aspects of businesses.

for the controversy with the lyrics "cookie", one of the songwriters involved isn't korean. she's swedish and is completely fluent in english, so when you look at it from that aspect it definitely doesn't look good considering the cookie innuendo is a western terminology that she as a songwriter would be completely aware of.
@@kennedy3682 tbh, i would've went with it, if min heejin wasn't already rumored to have some weird behavior towards minors...
and i also find kind of weird that heejin said herself, while speaking about her accusations, that cookie's meaning is coming from a slang of the u.s.a in 80s, as if the double-meaning of this word doesn't come the same place.
So the lyrics only get weird when it's translated into English since people who speak English use a lot of metaphors in the songs to refer to sex, native Korean speaker themself find this lyrics cute and unique that's why this song keep rising on the charts.
NewJeans is definitely monster rookies! All of the tracks are so good and all the members are beautiful and hella talented.

Yeaaa so true 🥰💜.
There's a reason why the topped all the charts in Korea and hold both Snsd and BP of debuting no1 and glued like bruh i think it shows that charts changed and the whole system changed like the general public in Korea loves new jeans and it help new jeans maintain their dominance in the charts for almost a month now
@@silvertigra4117 I think General public (the age group of 15 - 35) who are the primary music consumers in South Korea have definitely liked the chill vibe of them especially with the nostalgia and also since it's summer it suits the cafe vibe too, so they're being played everywhere :)

They're absolutely doing so great both in physical and digital sales. They've been doing so great on the charts too. They are the first girl group to top the Spotify South Korea Artist Chart (other k-groups are BTS and Bigbang). Attention is now the fastest 4th Gen. Song to surpass 100,000 likes on MelOn (15 days and 23 hrs. if im mistaken). All 3 NewJeans debut title tracks (Attention, Hype Boy, and Cookie) occupied TOP 10 on MelOn, Genie, and Bugs realtime chart. They are the first and only 4th gen. group to have 3 song charted on MelOn, Genie, and Bugs realtime TOP 10 simultaneously. Lastly, NewJeans and BTS are the only artists to simultaneously occupy the entire Top 4 of the Spotify South Korea Daily Chart. These are just some of the things that this 2 WEEKS old group have accomplished so far.
Not even a month old, yet they are already next to big names such as BTS and BigBang!
Their album sales are also insane. Their ULs are continuously increasing. ALSO, I would like to mention that two of the members, Danielle and Hanni, participated in writing the lyrics of some of their title tracks. Danielle participated in writing Attention and Hanni participated in writing Hype Boy.

They're not the first gg to top Spotify korea global chart tho, IVE topped it and were at #1 for 54 days
@@laissa9372 they are talking about the artist Spotify chart not the song chart
Also a bit of context. As native korean living in the US, I can say that the korean lyrics to Cookie is a bit more innocent than they look in the English translation. As I was listenting to the song and then reading the subtitles...I was like...hmm..really? Well not exactly but yeah...I guess you can translate it like that.
this was what i thought as well when i watched it the first time with the english captions on. there are speculations that the english captions they used are the actual lyrics of the demo before they changed the lyrics to korean. i don’t know if that was intentional or a mistake on their end but it sure has started a whole controversy around newjeans.

Interpretation of the Hype Boy MV for those who don't understand:
- Minji: Feeling she is not confident, then his friend LimeBoy writes words of encouragement in Minji's hand, and Minji tries to eat Lime/Lemon to prove she is brave, after that invites LimeBoy, during the scene at the pool party Minji looked for LimeBoy she thought he wouldn't come after their performance, Minji finally looked for LimeBoy who was lying in the palace, then the two of them chatted and LimeBoy's hands could be seen full of writing as well. Conclusion Minji managed to become confident and Minji & LimeBoy became friends.
- Danielle & Haerin: They are both tangled with a basketball boy, finally Dani finds out that this basketball guy is a playboy that try to persuade Haerin, during the scene where Haerin wants to be given candy with a basketball boy suddenly met Dani too, that's why this basketball guy ran away and Dani gave the candy to Haerin, went to the pool party there was no basketball boy because he wasn't invited because he was a playboy, and Dani & Haerin were alone because they were comfortable with each other, thanking each other for getting out of the prey of playboy basketball. Conclusion Danielle & Haerin are besties who escaped from playboy.
- Hyein: Hyein has a crush on an asthma boy, but she gets hooked when the guy takes the picture so Hyein just smiles because she already has a crush, then Hyein takes a photo "The inhaler gives a code if she has a crush, and Hyein VC with asthma boy invites them to a pool party, then The asthma boy looks at their performance, when Hyein wants to give him a drink she sees the asthma boy and his friend are making fun/mocking of the dance moves when Hyein performs, that's where Hyein gets irritated so the drink is squeezed. Conclusion Hyein hates asthma boy because it's beyond expectations to mock their performance.
- Hanni : Hanni really likes this mysterious dancer hoodie, she loves watching dance videos on her cellphone and then she strays into the soccer field, then Hanni records/VC she dances to the dancer hoodie and tries to invite them to the pool party, when they perform at the pool The dancer hoodie party was fun watching them perform, right inside Danielle & Haerin asked Hanni to approach this dancer hoodie because Haerin really liked the person, now when approached the hoodie dancer started to take off the mask and open the hoodie, there it was seen that Hanni was surprised that this dancer hoodie was too girls, Hanni finally realized that it was okay. Conclusion Hanni managed to overcome the disappointment that did not meet her expectations and accepted reality.
I think that interpretation on Minji was that she was so obsessed with him and his green aesthetic apparently, that she even paint her nails with his color
He signed her hand and she thought that he is really into her but later she found out that all of his hand is packed with these handwrittings what's mean that he is not acting special in her presence but he's just that type of guy who come along and flirts with everybody
@@georgiyrozanov8645 Very nice depiction, there's could be lots of different meanings. Just deppends on each personal perspective
@@jeeewhyyypheee you need to take the chat from the intro and all of the version into consideration too. Actually the story was pretty clear that Minji has one sided crush. And realizing he didnt like her the way she did.
Haerin dont have any crush. While danielle thinking she's going steady with this guy, and then in the mv we can see he flirted with both of them with the exact same text. Haerin didnt really get impressed since the beginning but ofc pissed since she knows that dude has something going with her friend already.
And hyein one, she has misconception about her crush thinking he some innocent misunderstood artist, then you'll see he became kinda jerk on text, she already feeling the ick but invited him anyway, and then its just confirmed he's not the dude she thought he is.

I am totally obsessed with Hype Boy. It's only been out for more than 2 weeks and it's already my most listened Kpop song ever in Spotify.
Yeahh me too. When the first time i saw them, I automatically thought that they had the same aura with BoA debut era 😭 And i really love it. Because it's so rare, idols who use the y2k concept like them. SO SO SO SO IN LOVE WITH NEW JEANS ❤
That might just be the reason I love their sound so much. BoA has this rnb yet pop modern sound to her. I love BoA to death and I absolutely love NewJeans's music. The members are also very talented. I have always been a vocal/music stan. I don't really mind the members age and concept since they are my age and it feels very genZ but knowing they are my age and have to be put on the spotlight...
Hanni is actually full Vietnamese, but was born and raised in Australia!! Danielle is half Korean and half Australian. I believe she has lived in both countries, but I'm not totally sure!
dani was born in Korea, she moved to Australia for a while and then came back to Korea
@@xetranvan123 but the is mixed right?
Half Australian is not a thing and I really wish people would stop saying that. Half Canadian, half Australian, half American, half British, etc etc cannot be half of someone's race. Those are nationalities. To say Danielle is half Korean and half Australian is equating Australian with being white and that's not cool. Not trying to start anything but trying to educate people because it's very ignorant thinking even if it's accidental. There are too many races and ethnicities in Australia to use Australian to describe someone being half white
people say half austalisn or american or half vietnamese or whatever to specifically know where they are from. or where thier parents are from.
@@LesEXO2012 so the correct term to describe danielle would be half korean half white? /gen idk why but that sounds off to me (probably because literally no one uses it)

Im not korean im a Filipino and I like cookie very much.
The song was written by people who would’ve known what “Cookie” implies. Why else do you think there are lines like “take it don’t break it I wanna see you taste it” or mentioning the scent, or saying “only baked at my house, softer than a brownie”.
Korean culture has nothing to do with it.
Agree 👏🏻
What I really love about them is they remind me of me and my friends. They represent GenZ so much from the vibe to the fashion. I dont know what the fuss is all about. This is what teens look like! I just loved Attention. No crazy make up, no crazy high fashion fits.
What I love about their debut is it was a surprise, no teasers, just pure vibes and good music. That’s why they are dominating korean charts despite such a small fandom compared to other groups.
I just got kinda sad when the main thing you knew about them was the controversy. This kinda made you judge the mvs through that lens and became sus about every little thing that could be problematic. Not your fault tho
Yes!!! Exactly!! They are exactly what my 14-16 cousins look like. Their videos match their ages and is really refreshing. The cookie lyrics are kind of weird but only if you look from the perspective of an adult, but the mv has literally nothing controversial.

I really like how mature there voices sound, not that I don't enjoy higher pitch but their deeper voices are really pretty ^^ I also really love the chill Y2K vibe of the songs that is what made me love Khan's song as well because they did that kind of sound :D
Hyein debut at 14(15 Korean, which is common) but she's been in the entertainment industry since she's 8, I think she is the most confident member so far and she's very headstrong. Her family wouldn't approve of her debuting if they find it inappropriate for her. They are actually supposed to debut in 2021, the PD postponed it bc she felt they are not ready yet at the time.
Also, how is it an issue when a kpop group member debuts so young but young actors are everywhere?
Maybe you're young and don't realize, but a lot of older people are well aware that unfortunately families letting their young kids work in entertainment of any kind don't always care what it does to them, or hopefully they're just somehow naive to it as well. That and I do wonder if the girls all signed contracts with parental permission, but the parents had no idea what kind of lyrics the girls would be singing. Even then, I'm assuming one of Danielle's parents is a native English speaker, and we don't know if they have literally any control over what their daughter is singing. If they were totally against it, I don't think there is much they can do at this point, it's a complicated situation where they wouldn't want to jeopardize her career, either. I think she's 16 or 17, so maybe they actually take no issue with someone her age singing a song full of innuendos anyway.
Regardless, I don't think the main problem is debuting kids that young, but if the full grown adults in their company aren't careful to protect them from this very situation then we have a problem. The English lyrics are straight up dirty, and a person doesn't have to be perverted to understand that. I don't typically even pay attention to lyrics in songs, especially when it comes to kpop, but from the first line when the maknae who is 14 yrs old sings "it ain't for free" I got such a weird vibe. Then the song just keeps getting progressively worse. Ultimately, it's about not placing blame on viewers for seeing dirty lyrics for what they are, but we shouldn't be made uncomfortable enough to want the company to update the English version so we can enjoy the song, too. They should also be more concerned about how easily the girls can be portrayed instead of blowing it off like, "Oh, the Korean lyrics are totally innocent, this is your problem, not ours". Well no, there should be concern over the wrong type of audience using their content inappropriately.
On top of all this, native Korean speakers are coming forward to say they fully understand the innuendos.
"Her family wouldn't approve of her debuting if they find it inappropriate for her." many parents with kids in their industry are also very lenient /evil like the companies. and unless the parents are with them all the time they're at the company I don't think they'd know much about whats happening till it comes out. parents can instigate or be overly clueless about whats going on, sadly. and its the majority.
Also the rumors day the debut 2021 would be only 4 girls and they add hyein in the line up final Also the minji recused to be a center in the previous girl group of Sm With Woul be The * aespa* when only ningning survive of the smrookies
OMG your hair looks SO GOOD! Thanks for doing all 4 reactions and not letting the controversy change your views of the mvs.
For those who misunderstood Cookie
To explain it one by one I made a paragraph for your reference.
“Made a cookie” referring to the song
“Softer than a brownie” here refers to the song attention which has a soft like chorus
“Living in ur head rent free” the songs being very addictive and always stuck in our heads.
“Made a cookie” a song for the crush
“Pick ur poison” here refers to Either replicating the feelings back or having them rent free on their mind ( the crushes mind )
“I’ll melt ur heart away” back to the first line “Made a cookie” they will melt his heart away with the song. “So good yeah” has 2 meanings the songs they made for him and them being able to melt their heart ( with the song )
Reference from first part of the song “it ain’t for free” it’s not free as they want the crush to like him back, “if you want it , u can get it” it’s like they are confessing their crush to the person, but he needs to confess ( replicate the feelings back) for more songs.
“Looking at my cookie” looking at the cd that had their song, “the sent alone will make u see it” the curiosity will make him come back them for listening to the song
“Taste it” is like a filler reference since u can taste actual cookies ( the ones u eat)
They mean that they want their crush to have a taste of their love for them( the crush) .
“You can’t stop at one bite” since they baked a song the crush can’t just take one look at it, but the crush needs to also listen to it as well.
And lastly, “Cookie” passed the broadcasting stage meaning they can perform this song on all shows so if you see something wrong with these lyrics it’s on YOU.
Nice explain . 👍👍

i think people forget there's something called "culture difference" which means that not everything that is weird for you will be weird for other people.
English speakers wrote the lyrics. If you read the lyrics it’s not innocent. It has innuendos. Song for fans yet they are mention a “boy”. And there are plenty of Koreans who said it’s sexual but y’all dismiss it. Adults wrote this.
you need to realise that ENGLISH speaking women who're 30 wrote this. the song wasnt written in korean. the innuendos were intentional. however i do beliveve the girls themselves do not realize what's wrong with it. because fyi yeri recently realized what ice-cream cake actually meant. the lyrics were translated by a woman who's also fluent in english. even tho the slangs arent universal but the lyrics are pretty much double meaning suggestive. and ngl knetz are VERY picky with what they choose to consider weird. Have you seen the sheer number of videos on why people "will never stan newjeans" or why they are "horrible" using this justification? And again, I barely see what people mean by the lolita concept. The videos show no cue that they are being portrayed in an openly sexual way. Do teenagers flirting with other teenagers mean that they are lolita? Honestly, I understand where your discomfort stems from, but I truly think that this is a problem of interpretation and not intent
pfvr né, essa historinha de ser música para os fãs nem faz sentido. elas literalmente deixam claro que estão falando com um menino na letra
I definitely feel like it's a cultural and mindset difference. We westerns interpret lyrics differently and with the "double" meaning in mind, while Koreans interpret with no malice and culturally based.
this is so stupid. as if chunghas bicycle and blackpinks ice cream doesn’t exist ?? we all know those have double meanings. ALSO the lyrics were originally written in english by a person who is FLUENT in english so ?? don’t try and blame us for being western when these lyrics are literally not okay ??
@@hugebakkaemotae8002 The lyrics are fine. How you interpret them is up to you. If you want to see "Cookie" in a sexual way, then you do you, but stop trying to force your opinion and interpretation onto others.
Koreans are not idiots...we can feel the nuence, concept, etc even it's not that straight in Korean lyrics...
@@ParadoX-os hypocrite. the original commenter is literally telling people that they can’t have an opinion or be suspicious of the weird lyrics and blaming us for being “western” but you don’t have a problem then ??
@@pjs331 This is my concern :( I do get the impression some Koreans will defend the lyrics because MHJ is considered a "genius" and highly regarded in Korea. That and the age of consent was raised only in 2020, when it used to be only 13... so I dunno if that has something to do with it, too, that older adults have been allowed to think of young girls a certain way and it's only just starting to change?
Omg my bias is hyein and while watching the mv or other reactors i kept on thinking why she looked so familiar....i got it now thanks to you reading the facts about them. She was a member of the "play with me" club and i used to watch that till she graduated. she was a great dancer and i always thought the companies that recruit her and naeun would be blessed af and alwys used to imagine them both debuting in a group together. Can't believe she actually became an idol omg. i'm gonna cry pls...
They really hit differently in me.😍 Honestly I only love ITZY in 4th gen group and after NEW JEANS bloom gosh I would say that they should be the ROOKIE OF THE YEAR THIS YEAR.🔥🔥
Actually don't know if you noticed but at the end of Hanni's ver of hype boy, the dancer was female/non-binary/etc.
tbh, i actually waited for the girls' explanation regarding cookie. apparently, cookie in korea is (or maybe was) used as a metaphor for cd. for instance, baking cookie = making a new cd. i believe that's what they are really trying to communicate. to further support this, we saw their cds rolling around in the background, along with the cookies. from there, i got the sense that they want us to like have a taste of their work as mucisians/artists? i don't know. i am also still wrapping my head around this. but i really really enjoyed your reactions! thank you so much! 🤗🤍
So the lyrics only get weird when it's translated into English since people who speak English use a lot of metaphors in the songs to refer to sex, the Koreans themselves found the lyrics cute
The girls already explained the meanof Cookie on their social media. Cookie=CD (the album)
@@lc-78 i actually have the same sentiments. :> i was actually worried at first since i wasn't knowledgeable abt their language (esp the metaphors they use), but then when i tried to listen to the girls' interpretation of the song, i must say that i did make sense. that's why i chose to believe them. tho i still get why some people are mad. its rlly because of the varying interpretations on the song. but i hope the fans and critics would to be knowledgeable abt it as well! :>
@@mulfand7762 yes! i decided to side wt their explanation as well! after all, it is their work. hehe
people are just dirty minded and loves to sexualize everything.
And every MV's somehow correlate/connected to each other. Like "Attention" they want to be the attention, then these "Hype Boy" got their attention, after finding out what's up some of the girls got "Hurt", and they decided to get some "Cookie" to feel better 😆
26:13 nowadays yes💀💀 still the maknae is actually 14 not 12 xd. Yes, in fact it’s a very young age but if we start to search idols who debuted at that age or even younger we can easily found them. And the other members debuted at an age which is sadly normal in kpop.
Except the maknae and the unnie, the other ones are 16-17. Wonyoung and Jisung also debuted with 14. Hueningkai debuted with 16 as well as yuna, jk, tzuyu, suzy, niki, somi etc etc so(except for hyein) I don’t understand why is everybody making a big deal of their ages now, not concept, when lit lots of groups with members with the same age debuted a week before them(ironically). I haven’t seen anyone talking about classy’s ages, or the breakdance given to IVE where is Leseo who is 15 or Eunchae age as well.
I’ve only mentioned these idols because they’re the ones I’m sure about the ages and this stuff.
Ikr, it’s just a fake concern. Even this people want to boycott NewJeans & telling others people to not stan this group like wtf. U are just a haters.
@@mulfand7762 yes totally, the ones who wants to cancel newjeans probably love billie eilish when she debuted, double moral
saw people spreading misinfo on twitter that the maknae was born in 2014 aka 8 year old 💀💀
Classy has been talked about for so long, especially when that show was still going on. It's just that people didn't care and still stanned them. Same thing with IVE.
All their songs are doing well on k-charts, sooo amazing for a rookie like them 👏
Newjeans are doing really really great one of the best debut gg in 2022. All songs are amazing just give us the new kind of kpop sounds.
Thanks for reacting to NewJeans 1st EP 💗
This group is insane, they broke so many records within a month since they debut like WOW. I know why people hate this group so much n trying to make NewJeans down and make a fake issues. Especially NewJeans is from HYBE, u know Hybe have so many haters 😂 I see a lot of people sayin that they concern bout NewJeans but actually they just want to boycott & disband NewJeans and telling people to not stan this group like wtf. Such a haters behaviour.
Anw, congratulations for NewJeans 1st win🎉
they're already so different from any group, they're so amazing

NewJeans songs are all top tiers! Excited for their future music. Knetz really like them tho. ROTY will be fire this year.
Their sound nd vocals techniques are so refreshing and easy to hear....they are like a breath of fresh air in the constant beat changing songs now
personally i really like them as a group and i think they're really talented at such a young age i'm lovin' their vibes nd maybe i would stan them not sure tho
I think what you said about Cookie was exactly how i felt when i heard that it was a controversial song. It’s genuinely such a good song and in personally, I honestly thought it was about cookies because the girl are so wholesome and it genuinely never occurred to me that it could be taken in another way
Hanni she is so cute and beautiful and talented and she's Vietnamese it's great 🥰❤️❤️
i have the same feelings/explanations as you. you described how the “looking for attention” is perfectly to me. they reminded me of twice a little bit. they are very pretty and go well together.
they're so hype in KOREA right now, thanku for reacted this omg!
I love your Vietnamese pronunciation🙆♂️. It was cute 🤗. I could hear and understand it clearly. I feel so proud that someone who debuted in Kpop was Vietnamese ( I’m Vietnamese too). 🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳
LET’s go with HANNI and NEW JEANS 🎉🎉🎉
( So sorry because my English’s not good) ❤️
I absolutely love this concept, and as a minor myself I can see why this debut can raise questions because of their age and the way the general public will view them as young girls. The industry loves showing off new and young talent which is a great thing but its good to keep in mind what are some of the red flags their label/company and rub off on them in a negative way. Im glad people took the time and notice how 'Cookie' and its lyrics are a bit concerning. I hope hybe changes some of these things for their future comebacks that fit their age.
i think i also saw a korean person explain on tiktok that in korea before, there was this popular slang 'baking cookie' which referred to CDs, hence maybe the meaning behind cookie. the members also explained the meanings of their songs on their instagram acc.
Honestly, hype boy is of the best songs I've heard this year
My friend showed me New Jeans since I told her I dont like many kpop songs, and I got hooked . SHowed my sister, and she likes them as well. She also mentioned the girls / MVs reminds her of f(x) with the vibe of S.E.S and Fin.k.l. Very nostalgic
*Girl, you've definitely did the assignment reacting to all of their MVs. They are already amazing and fresh.*
+ U kinda got the order of Hype Boy backwards. 😂
I personally like the debut concept of new jeans, I think it's genius. They didn't put out any teasers or introduction, they just all of a sudden drop the music videos. And that is not only one type of mv, attention is like "okay it's us", then hype boy is like "now get to know us" then hurt with the close up mv is like "okay we've met, now try to remember our face", and lastly there are cookies that show their performance skills.
Cookie is about their album, why people always try to sexualize lyrics. Honestly, from my perspective, the problem is from us, listeners. Music is music, talent is talent, art is art, we should keep it here. No matter the concept, when minors debut it’s always drama. People don’t think about the concepts, they always think about their age, which is TOXIC even though you want to protect them.
Also, internet, love, drugs and sex are things that happen when you’re a teenager (especially in high school) so let’s stop being hypocrites, let’s be real with subjects that touch young people, and let’s spread sensibilisation about those issues, not about their age..
The problem in kpop is also about the fact that a lot of kpop fans are above 20, so when minors debut it’s shocking, but since the beginning of kpop in the late 90’s idols were debuting underage.
The only V-pop group I know is the one from Mamamoo's label RBW, a boy groups called D1VERSE and I like their song Monster.
And the female version of the term "Bros before...." is "sisters before misters".
Wait, how did I not know you were half Vietnamese?! So cool! Love supporting my fellow Asian creators ❤️ As always, I enjoyed your reaction 😊
You feel the SM vibes in them (F(x) & Shinee), because NJ was made by Min Heejin, the director that created many concepts for F(x) before, especially Pink Tape era. I like NJ immediately because they recall the SM vibe that I like a lot T_T
the funny thing is that the mvs dropped unexpectedly, and then the album was released shortly after. i think this was a strategy to showcase the group before they sold the album, it worked tho bcs newjeans' ep broke the record first day pre-order records.
not only r they doing good in physical sales, but also digitally. just earlier, attention surpassed its 140th hour rak (real-time-all-kill) on kr music platforms.
I'm 30, so I totally get you about young love 😂
My earliest awareness of puppy love is when I was 16-17 maybe. I did have make up though, the eyeliners 😂
The problem with Cookie is that the creator is obviously English speaking. They bought the song in English. That's why I could not let go of the innuendos
I like the fact that Her smile just slowy fading upon cookie MV reaction. U know there will something to talk when u see that facial expression.
Attention is pretty but a bit too repetitive for me, yet I still listen to it lol. Hype Boy my personal fav by far! The vibes are dope!! Hurt is such a feels song filled with confidence in vulnerable state, what I get from the song. Cookie is cute, kinda showcasing the flirty side of these gals - purdy.
Omg. Your Vietnamese is so good. I'm so suprised
Hearing you speak Vietnamese was so cool ! I don't know the language but you seem to be a bit more fluent than you think ❣️
just something about the "controversy" around them: actual korean speakers cleared it up saying there's literally nothing "weird" with the lyrics of cookie. the girls' fanbase is mostly female AND very young based on the statistics we have so far. it's just another situation of people on stan twitter creating issues the moment a group starts going viral. (and yes they went viral because of their songs and the controversy started as soon as people saw them charting really high)
They have bunch of old boys fans tho look at their fansign
@@willa9880 Korean netizens said there were 2 men, 48 women.

The sisterhood of the travelling pants! Yes I absolutely love that movie and the attention video is giving those vibes!!
For someone who's been high, I get what you mean and you are right hahaha! Them holding the "Attentiooooooon" part makes you feel as if you're in a trance.
GUYS GIDLE SAYS IT BEST. “why u think bout nude cause ur view so rude” IF THE GIRLS ARE SAFE AND PROTECTED THE INNUENDOS ARE UR OBLIGATION TO SHUT DOWN. U CAN ENJOY THE SONG AND THE LOVELY IDOLS!!!
I never saw the close up of their faces in 'Hurt' as an issue. Since it is a more vocal heavy pop-ballad, it makes sense that the MV would focus more on the girls and nothing else to emphasize their vocals. It only needs a simple video, nothing crazy or special like choreography, sets or CGI. Its just them, in one set, and the camera just focuses on them individually. That's all.
I agree. She said that she was only bringing this up because she knew about the "lolita" controversy, meaning that hearing that something was controversial biased her to look for problems. That's how I interpreted it.
@@BrieCheese People who are complaining of the girls being sexualized are the ones, ironically, sexualizing them.
yeah, to me it suit the intimate feeling of the song. I intrepret the song/MV as them being more vulnerable, and the super intimate close ups suit that. We can literally see their expressions so closely. It would've been gross if the close ups were of their bodies instead, though.
I think also the choice its to show a more vulnerable side of them. As their other songs where a little bit more confident and this one lyrics are more personal/confessional
Hanni's voice is fantastic.
Hanni is pure Vietnamese, Her father from Hanoi, mother from Saigon
The movie you meant is The Sisterhood of Travelling Pants ;) which is so fitting and funny cause they share a pair of jeans!!
I love newjeans its all so refreshing and they have beautiful visuals
omg ive been waiting for this!! thank you for your reaction ❤️❤️
Their concept is definitely mature for their age. Not the oldest members Minji and Hanni 04 liners, they are going to be adults in Korean age next year. The other members though, especially the maknae being an 08 liner I think it is a bit much. A 12 year old (international age, 13 Korean age) wearing crop tops, no no no. If they would have a least waited a year and a half to 2 years to release something like this concept.
At age 12 my mom would never have let me go to a concert with friends by ourselves. Don't get me wrong I love all the songs, I just feel like the MVs could have been done a bit differently, Ador didn't want to do a full on school girl concept which I appreciate. Even their sound is mature. The song Cookie though... I'm not sure is the english translations are correct and not getting the true meaning of the song.
I will say though there was a grown man probably in his mid 20s at their fan sign and I was like oh no. That guy can enjoy their music of course but actually going to a fan sign is a bit much. Of course there was people trying to argue and say that what if an older woman/noona went to a fan sign for a younger boy group. As a 30 year old kpop lover I can understand the concern when there are still minors in a group. I wouldn't go to a fan sign, a concert yes, but anything else does look bad regardless of the intention. Same even for a girl group unless I had a daughter or younger sibling that was a fan there should be no reason to be there.
I say idols shouldn't be any younger than age 16 debuting. The law in the U.S. at age 15 and 16 you can get a job but you can't work past 9pm, because of school. I feel like it should be the same for idols, for all schedules not just award shows, any underage idols having to leave the artist seating area by 10 pm I think it is. Protect these young idols please.
I am one of your fans from Vietnam. In the previous video of tempest's reaction, I heard you speak some Vietnamese and today I was surprised by your ability to speak Vietnamese. You speak very well so don't feel bad about your abilities. Hanni has a HaNoi father and a Saigon mother. She has lived in Australia since childhood, so her English is better than Vietnamese. I really like the way you react.
I was waiting for this recation~
Me too
One of the things that pulled me to k-pop was a lack of the blatant soft porn lyrics found in a lot of American music (especially hip hop). The Cookie song immediately kinda made me sad because there is probably more of this type of music to come.
Yesss newjeans really give me the f(x) vibes. Thats why im falling in love with them. Imma MeU!
many korean rnb singers and hip hop artists showing support to them. its kinda surprising me because usually no matter how popular the song is they dont care at all. but then i saw pitchfork review labelled newjeans genre as pop/r&b. i think they’ll go down this path and not the usual kpop sound.
Where are u guys Vietnamese subscribers 🙌🏻 this is the first time I’ve heard Coco speaking Vietnamese language omg
Fyi: Hanni’s dad is from Hanoi, Hanni’s mom is from Saigon. She has a lot of pics that she visited Hanoi in the past. At Weverse online fansign she also spoke Vietnamese with kinda Northern accent (giọng miền Bắc). Anw, chào mừng Coco trở lại sau chuyến du lịch Việt Nam ❤️
The cookie in the mv is a CD!! In one interview Danielle once said it's about a CD. The reason why they say "Come taste it(🍪) cavity is your broblem" is because you can taste their music but if you get addicted it's your problem. The cookie (CD) is not free bcs you must buy it at the store. They made a little cookie at home( studio/hybe )🙄 go get it. Don't you also think that's the reason the cookie turns into a CD most of the time.
I think what confuses people here is the slang meaning of cookie and what they mean by cookie. Which is understandable.
You right when you say sometimes it ain't the song or company specialising idols it's what we think as viewers. So I hope now yall can enjoy Cookie 😤🥰
Problem*
Sexualizing*(insert face palm)
yeah, that might be the meaning they say but it's still very suggestive for minors, and even more considering the youngest was 14 when it came out
i saw someone type 'Newjeans' can be also spell 'Newgene' . love how she(Min Hee-jin) the CEO did that.
*CBO
Yey! I am waiting for you to react to them. ❤️ Thank you.
Omg I did not know you can speak Vietnamese, I always watch your reaction without knowing it 😳😳😳
I totally agree with you. Last week there was a picture of one of the member in a fansign with A GROWN ASS ADULT. Tha's creepy as hell, this industry is really dangerous and mostrly for underage girls. Imagine all the things that happen behind the scenes.
I hope they will be more protective over them
26:05 Coco: "at 12 I wasn't thinking about boys"
also Coco: reads their profile beforehand narrowing down their age range to between 14 to 18
Also me: filmed all day long and having only a few brain cells left 🥲
I got stuck on 12 cuz the youngest and myself have a age gap of 12 years
When I first watched NewJeans's Attention MV video, I knew right then that this a work of NewRookieMonster in kpop.
