It's probably less the American accents you don't like than the modern Valley Girl cadence combined with 21st century style of speech. American accents can work in fantasy--like in the original "Willows"--when the characters don't use the expressions and tone of a 14 yr old Californian Instagram influencer.

There are even some medieval fantasy shows out there now where they say "okay" in conversations lol... that is really dumb. You know back in the days where writers were actually very good I tend to look up to them (I am writing fantasy stories in my spare time and publish them on a small scale) and not long ago I was amazed how good some screen writers are in the fantasy genre, and I felt lazy and untalented in comparison to the real professionals. But now... hm... now I think its the other way around. What these clowns write now is so amazingly bad that I am simply speechless.

Oh my god. I never realized how bad the original movie's trailer comes across. I SWEAR the movie is fantastic!
I fell in love with the movie Willow when I first discovered it. I introduced it to a little girl I was nannying about 12 years ago. We bonded over that movie! It became very dear to us both and we of course still love it. She would ask me to tell her the story of Willow over and over. We would recreate scenes and she would come up with make believe scenarios where we would save the baby from the movie, etc.
However, there is absolutely NO interest in watching this new Willow sequel. It's an absolute shame but certainly no surprise.... If I hadn't already gone through a similar deal with Star Wars, this would be a harder pill to swallow. Nothing is sacred in Hollywood.

@@NaiseiTatsu Exactly. I was actually talking to my husband about this last night. So many people sacrificed and risked so much for Elora. Not just because of the prophecy but out of love for her. They would not let her grow up thinking she was a no body. She’s a princess. There would have been songs and stories told about their adventure.
PLUS Elora would always know Willow. It was kind of a big part of her character that she was a (quote) “very special” baby. The fairy queen was able to communicate with Elora and Elora CHOSE Willow to care for her. She was a wise infant that knew what was going on and what was her purpose, I would argue.
But no let’s have her be a “nobody” that doesn’t remember being a legendary and intelligent child and let’s have all of the kingdoms completely forget about all the drama and action and strait up saved them all.

I don't mind American accents in fantasy. There are some worlds that has done some cool things with that. And a good way you can work it into your world is that the characters are talking contemporary English. Which back in medieval times, whatever they would be speaking would be contemporary to people of that time.
That being said. If there's something I hate in series in general then it's incredibly "modern" dialogue with characters saying "Like totally" or "Sloppy seconds". Small things like idioms can sound very wrong if the idiom is contextual to a modern setting. "The light's on but there's no one home" being one.
I don't think a medieval show needs to sound Shakesperean in their speech. But like ALL shows the dialogue needs to be good and engaging.

"I stole it from a stupid daikiini..." I think that line from one of the brownies about where he got the baby from kinda encapsulates the Hollywood of today. You've got a group of people who take something they didn't create, doesn't belong to them, don't understand, don't even like and that's way too big for them to handle and they have it just because they think it will benefit them.
I watched the original when I was very young. It wasn't anywhere near my favorite films when I was a kid but it was enjoyable, imaginative and just had that something that seems to be missing from all films maxe today. I don't usually agree with the current day politcal leanings of Hollywood and if they want to make what amounts to political propaganda fine, but damnit stop digging up the corpses of old movies and slapping a bunch of bumper stickers on them that read "I believe in science" and "no human is illegal". You're hurting the things you claim to be for with this crap because we now associate it with shoehorned themes and bad writing. Make something like Brokeback Mountian or Philadelphia if you have a messgae you want to push. It doesn't belong in a fantasy setting about little people.

Well done Johnny and good analysis. Alas, our official Epistle (on our channel) concerning "Willow (the series) 2022 by the "Mousey" Corporation explains quite clearly how it became "Anti Femina Heroina." It deprived all audiences (and Princess Elora Danan) of what could have been a tremendous and pristine ironclad journey for a female hero "with a thousand faces," inspiring generations to come. Peace be to you and come an join us anytime.

I grew up with Willow as my favorite fantasy film. When I heard Disney was making the show, I had no doubt that they would ruin it. This is worse than a CW show. It’s objectively terrible. So sad.

If I was put in a arranged marriage I would enjoy it to the best of my ability. If the woman is unlikable sure. I'll be less nice to her. If she has bad looks I would just try to ignore her looks. But if I run into someone like the princess that I have to marry. I will marry her. Not my choice. But if she expects me to be nice to her all the time. She'll have to look in the mirror

There’s a precedent for the mixed accents, Madmartigan (Val Kilmer) had an American accent in the film, as did several other characters! Thanks for watching this, though, as a fan of the movie, you’ve spared me the pain of enduring this.

Trailers back then were notoriously cheesy. The movie was great, far better than the series, you do yourself a disservice to not watch it. That said: The REALLY sad thing, almost tragic, is that George Lucas and Chris Claermont ALREADY wrote a REALLY interesting sequel set to Willow ( Shadow War Chronicles ): it wasn't perfect, getting convoluted in the last act like much of Claermont's work, but it WAS SUPER EPIC, greatly expanded the mythos of the series, brought in everything from metaphysical dragons, to ogres, high Elves and evil, ancient faerys... and there was plenty of room in that tale for both POC representation, WITH a grand story. The story they are telling now is small, lackluster and lame compared to the one Lucas himself already followed Willow with ( which, sadly, will now almost certainly never have an adaptation because this lesser imitation of the Shannarrah series has already aired, and has already used & maybe somewhat wasted the Warwick Davis seal. I will say, this show isn't horrible... but it's so much less than it could and should have been. They could have made changes to the Lucas story, like keeping Sorsha, while still keeping that better tales' far superior plot.

I don't know if it's badly edited for this video but I don't get any sense of what this world is, or the events as they unfold, just seems like a series written on the back of something old in a "because this" sort of writing.

I swear if they'd had a single moment of original thought they'd have kept everything as is and then at the end of the series have Muffin Girl bring the brother back form evil by saying how he isn't like them, that he was showing how much of a better person he is than all of them. To have Lesbian Princess go full monster and try and kill the literal saviour of the world and have the set up for season 2 be a dichotomy between the granddaughter of evil vs the granddaughter of heroes.
But that requires lesbians to be portrayed as being evil and we can't have that.

So sad how Tony Revolori's carreer seem to be dying allready. From a top tier movie in Grand Budapest Hotel to the good movie Dope to then be some nobody in boring Spiderman made for 12 year olds and now this, don't understand how his career can be saved now.
