I saw them in 92, but if I could back in time I might choose this time period to see them again. His voice was so controlled and measured, it was just so powerful.
@@enriqueguevara5689 I definitely wouldn't doubt you cause I didn't get to see them, also all the clips I see are like him killin it on something. At least I got to see them.... jus wish I could remember it lol
I saw them live in 2006, and tbh apart from his voice, the shows were average… bumblefoot didn’t fit at all, brain was about to leave… usually venues were small as well as the stage…and some other things that didn’t work. That’s why even with the announce of CD this version of the band had 0 recognition
I think Axl totally underrated as a singer. When people talk about greatest singers they always remember Mercury or Plant and Elvis but never about Rose. It's unfair. Axl doin' incredible live work for decades.
I’m biased as shit but I will never entertain any singer being elevated over Freddie Mercury in my list of the greatest. Again that’s a lot of bias in that. But Axl during his prime was an absolute force of nature. I believe I read somewhere that at his prime he had a vocal range of five octaves which is genuinely absurd. But what’s also fair to consider is those names you list aren’t seen that way simply because they were good at singing as much as they were great singers and the legacy of their career added in and that’s why Axl is never in the convo. And that’s on Axl. GNRs prime lineup was only around touring for eight years before they were basically on hiateous until they split up in 1996. Their last performance together before their reunion was 1993 and then you saw very sporadic touring of Axl with his new lineup and he carried the negative outlook. But if it was simply blind talent comparison and nothing else he’d have to be up there.
@@Matt-cr4vv I agree that Freddie and others are in the list for numerous reasons other than singing great. However, look around you and see how popular and influential Axl is as a singer. Everywhere in the world most people at least heard one GNR song and always remember Rose as an incredible and unique vocalist. Yes, GNR's prime lineup didn't last very long but they are one of the most influential bands in the world so your reasoning doesn't really hold. Even today, their tours sell out stadiums everywhere and remain discussed all around the world since 1985. Axl's legacy is one of its kind and I believe he's underrated and should be listed as the top singer with Mercury, Elvis and Plant, if not above them. And yes, I'm biased with Axl lol
I think most people recognize he is one of the greatest of all time. Axl has always been ranked on the greatest singers of all time lists, but he is always way too low on the list, so I agree with him being underrated. Axl, Mercury, Plant. That's the list. In his prime he was untouchable and surpassed Mercury and Plant as the greatest vocalist to ever live in my opinion.
2006 Axl was on a different level. Strong vocals, didnt overdo the rasp, but was totally capable of pulling it off when he had to. He looked great, and this band was tight. I think he finally found the perfect middle ground with his voice, his look, and the band. It's a shame this incarnation didn't last long.
Wow, axl was really showing off in that Used to Love Her Performance. Beautiful headvoice all throughout then a controlled fall to beefy lower 2nd octave. Class
He sounded even better than in 91-93. Dude was a literal phoenix! After the absolute mess 2001-2003 was, how tf did he come back to that level?? Just unbelievable. Not only vocal wise but also physically, it's an unbelievable transformation. I wonder what it was that produced such a strong motivation in him to pursue this change at the time
Well, I think I can answer that one. He had a vocal coach. When I went to the first Hammerstein show in May of 2006, he mentioned that he had hired Sebastain Bachs vocal coach, and credited him for saving his voice. At any rate , it was quite a transformation. He sounded like a completely different guy compared to '01-'02.
@@marianopie3785 probably a couple of different reasons. Its weird though, because after 2010 , he hasnt quite been the same. If youll remember, he went full throttle 80s 90s Axl for that entire tour. Im convinced that the 2010 tour permanently damaged his voice. Age, laziness, and I think that doing ACDC and Guns at the same time back in '16-'17 killed whatever was left of his voice. Its a mystery that most likely will never be unraveled, like Axl himself.
@@noshow22 I was at the 4th night of Hammerstein Ballroom. I could've sworn I heard that he started drinking whiskey again around that time and it actually helped his voice a bunch. I got to see them twice in 2006 and it was so good. The Hammerstein show was the best though!
I saw em in Brisbane in 07. I’ll never forget they did echo guitar for welcome to the jungle to start the show, I then heard Axl rose breathe in to do the opening sequence. It was like spitfire starting up.

I was at Hammerstein the first night in 06. What a night! Only got to see one more this era. And it wasn’t as good? I’m sure the performance was great, but I wanted a shook up set list. Otherwise, yeah, what a cool ass era.
That sailing performance alone should shut the naysayers up. I always say the people who checked out and refused to go see GNR during the Chinese years really missed peak Axl vocally, especially 2006 and 2010. By the time they reformed in 2016 he was already on the slip with what he could and could not do anymore. Still surprises me every once in a while even in the most recent tour with some moments of greatness though, so there's still hope for one last good run of Axl vocals.
2006 to 2010 he should have done the reunion tour. I think in 2015 he realised his voice was on way out for good and thats the only reason he got back with slash to cash in on the big "reunion tour"
