  • Starlings are not the greatest songsters in the world, but they put a lot of effort into it with a nice display of wing flapping to help the effect.
I find a nice blue coloured hut where they are nesting under the roof. It makes for a nice setting.
I use the OM-1 Mk2 for all the video. The AF is much improved over the Mk1 for video so I do not find myself having to use the Lumix G9 Mk2 nearly as much.

You capture their beautiful irridescence at 03.21 - I see them up close every day on my feeders, and in the sunshine they shine in shades of green, blue and purple silvery colours.

The one thing I've always loved about Starlings is there incredible mimicry. And that iridescence on the feathers is beautiful. Thanks Mike.

NIce video Mike. Glad you got the lens sorted. I find I am shooting more video with the mkII than the OM1. Its is better, but it stills needs to improve.

Thanks for another enjoyable video Mike. If I could just take this opportunity to thank Richard and yourself for your excellent videos on fighting starlings. I’ve tried it and got on well. I’m not saying There were shots as good as Richard and yourself as your images were compressed on RUclips. Most importantly I had an enjoyable day and was able to post something different on Flickr. A big THANk YOU. 👍

Thank you for your interest in starlings. I've long found them to be interesting and colorful birds and have photographed them whenever I could.

Another superb video Mike. Sparrows and Blackbirds are underrated, perhaps because they are quite common in suburbia, as they are here in Australia. Out of interest how does that unusual background reverberation sound come about for a little while at the 3.30 mark. It sounds almost a manufactured sound rather than a natural sound like wind noise. Cheers, Richard

Another excellent and top quality video. I’m guessing you knew the location of the shed but what a great find. Super shots of the Starlings, but the stills of the House Sparrows are really lovely. As always a great breakfast time watch.

Great video, Mike; I don't have to go very far to see starlings nesting and singing just to the front garden as they nest in the house across the path from the front gate, it must be all of 50 meters. Thanks for sharing.

Learned that lesson on composition recently. Last year took a shot of a black adder while out with a wildlife group, just one shot as I let everyone get in first with their phones and then of course we were moving on.
I've just been offered the full page for the photo on the back of a wildlife magazine. Great, except they want portrait and of course I shot it as a tight landscape. Ho hum.

@@MikeLaneFRPS I've been playing with the DMW-MS2 stereo shotgun/rifle mic which I've had for years, but it only works on a Lumix. It works well for birdsong. It zooms with the lens and isolates the song. Having replaced the one I lost, of course I found the first one. Rode do several shotgun mics.
