3-17-21 Made this today. Smoked two corned beef briskets, @8 pounds, and two heads of cabbage as I invited friends and family for dinner. I don’t normally spring a new recipe on guests but have tried enough of your recipes to be confident in the results. I have also smoked corned beef in the past but the concentration of salt was a turn-off for some folks. The water bath was the ticket to leach out some of the salt and provide a broth for the veggies. Dinner was a huge hit; the corned beef was perfectly done, tender, and juicy. The veggies picked up a lot of flavor from the broth and the smoked cabbage just amazed everyone. If you ever find yourself planning a visit to the Darlington, South Carolina area, let me know, I’d be more than happy to buy you a beer or six.
I cooked this recipe yesterday. The corned beef was good but the big surprise was how flipping fantastic the veggies were! After that I smoked a 5 lb stick of Bolognese per your video. Thanks for sharing.
Malcolm, I cooked my first corned beef and cabbage meal today on my new PitBoss Pro 850. I followed your recipe and it came out fantastic. Thank you for sharing with us, how to do t!
Just made this and ate it! Malcolm never disappoints! He’s my go to for anything thing smoker or grilling! Happy St Patrick’s Day buddy!! Thanks again for another awesome recipe!!!!
I've been using your method since you released this video 9 years ago. It's still the best ! Got my Brisket on the Traeger right now. You're still the best Malcom !
Malcolm, I followed your method and the wife loved it. I used my new Kamado. All I heard was this is so much better than cooking corned beef in a slow coocker
Doing this for new years day tomorrow. Tradition in my house corned beef and cabbage black eyed peas. First time smoking it all. I know howtobbqright never lets me down.
I just used this as inspiration for my cook tonight. AP on the flat, smoked on oak and apple wood over open coals, then finish with a foil wrap with beer, instead of the pan and water. It turned out excellent. I'd like to see more pit barrel cooks. I love watching your videos Malcolm.
Malcom brother anytime I think about adding something new to my menu you always seem to have all the answers I need I hope to see you in Murphysboro Illinois this September... god bless hope all is well

I would have done corned beef today but I have brisket left over... and I watched this channel for help with it. Malcolm is helping me eat well
O my goodness. Followed this like you had done and came out LIGHTS OUT. The corned beef and the cabbage head - words can not describe. Thank you so much for all you videos. For such a novice you make this like I know what I’m doing. Everything I have tried is wonderful. So nice watching your videos.
How to BBQ right! Love your videos, I know this one’s older but I’ve watched so many of yours to help me with things I’m trying to smoke. The long brisket over night video was the game changer. You are the man! 💨
I have smoked corned beef before, but the way you cooked the veggies and cabbage got my attention. Once again you have inspired me to be creative. love your channel and that "the bbq rub" absolutely love it......
Gearing up for St. Paddy’s ‘23. Another family member is doing a traditional corned brisket, and I knew I wanted to smoke one. I knew you’d have just the right recipe for me, Malcom, and the cabbage head your way is going to be a great bonus! Thanks, sir, and I’ll comment again when it’s in the history books. 👍 Edit: I feel like a kid a few days before Christmas. Can’t WAIT to get this going on Friday! Malcom, I’m am so sure that your recipe is great that I’m doing not one, but THREE briskets, one of which I’m going to step on pretty heavily heat-wise for the pepperheads amongst us. Also, I’m thinking of crumbling some crispy bacon down into that cabbage with the butter and AP seasoning) or maybe do that on 2 of the 4 heads. Thoughts, anyone? 😎
This is amazing. Corned beef flat is one of my favs. Used to make them in a crock pot, just rinsed and put in. With smoking these I found the first time got dry and tasted salty. I love the use of water after a few hours of smoking. Only thing I would change is I have a cast iron pot, this will work great.
Hey man just tried your recipe for the smoked corned beef and all i have to say is wow, thanks a bunch. I'm still a little new to smoking and love your videos for advice..
What an amazing video and great recipe! I've made smoked corned beef before, but never thought to finish braising it on the grill. Will be trying this tomorrow!
Man every time I you tube how to smoke something I get your videos. I bought my first shaker of The BBQ Rub today and got a smoker for Christmas so I'll be back. Alot!!!
Did you add more water when you tossed in the veggies? I didn't see it, but it seemed like the water level tripled once it was at 195°. I'd only assume you added some more water. If so, how much? Thanks!
I'm giving this a shot next month. It looks awesome. I am going to do two cabbages though. One your way and the second I'm going to try a little Jameson instead of the worcestershire sauce. Thanks for all the great instruction.
This is the only way to cook corned beef. The cabbage was meh, I prefer to toss it in the water with the beef. Also, I tossed applejuice, bbq sauce and some cayenne pepper in the water bath. What a treat, thanks Malcom.
This guy is great. If your flat came brined, I always leech out the salty brine first by covering it with water . 6 to 8 hours with several changes of water. Then dry rub and cook as Malcolm instructs.
Ya man. Da cabbage recipe is the way we roll from here out. Very delicious and worth it. Did a different variation for the other ingredients but this guy knows bbq so you can't go wrong rolling smoke his way.
what kind of gloves do you wear, i see you handle some pretty hot items and they seem to do well, are they lined at all? I have tried several of your cooks and have had great success. Thank You
This will probably be my next Malcolm Reed recipe I try on the smoker. That looks awesome! It was great meeting you at the BBQ Duel in Tupelo. Thanks again for the turkey recipe!
Hey Uncle Scott! Its Maya. I miss you lots!!! I hope I can see you guys soon. love you lots. Tell Aunt Malissa I miss her and love her as well for me? grandmamma told me that Aunt Julie and Uncle Slate have moved to Florida just like dad and that they r far from u guys now. And the video above looks very interesting. I am now going into sixth grade. Kai is going into high school. Ninth grade, so he is going to be a Freshman. I am only going to middle school, but I am going to the middle school right next to kai's . Well I love you very much. I miss you guys lots!!!
Hi Maya! I'm sorry I am so late replying. I just now saw this from you! I don't use G+ very much, just Facebook and Instagram. I'm so glad to hear from you!! It has been such a long time! I miss you guys!! Yes, Aunt Julie and their family are in Florida now (close to Disney World). We are still in Mississippi though. MIcah is a Senior now, and Alanah started middle school this year also. Write back some time! Kai too! You can also email, txt, instagram, facebook me any time!
This looks so good, I wonder what a point end corn beef brisket would taste like? Got to make this soon. Sometimes I miss my Yoder pellet smoker for making things easy but I still prefer an offset for smoking. Great video!!!
Looks great. would I ask for a corned beef brisket when purchasing? I've made the cabbage in the oven but will try it smoked doing some smoking on Sunday. I like all your videos keep up the good work.
Every recipe I’ve used from you has been amazing, my family thinks I’m the rib king 👍😂. Definitely going to try this recipe tomorrow morning for my buddy’s birthday/ St Patty’s party . Thank you very much
Looks good Malcom but I'm wondering, did the corned beef shrink that much or is it a trick of photography? The brisket looks noticeably smaller than when you started?
made your recipe for the Corned Beef Brisket (it came out so tender, with that delicious "smokey" flavor and just the right amount of seasonings). It was the BEST Corn Beef Brisket I have ever eaten! I also did the "smoked" cabbage. My family & friends are looking forward to their next serving! IT'S REALLY REALLY DELICIOUS. I am in LOVE with the way you make that SMOKED CABBAGE. Thank you so much for sharing! :-D Additionally, is it possible to SMOKE a Turducken? Or will the variety of different "meats" (turkey, chicken & duck with ground Sausage) cause a cooking conflict? If you can "smoke" a turducken...can you please do a tutorial? Most people cook them in the oven, but I think that the "smokey" flavor will make the Turducken taste even better. I have liked you and subscribed to your channel! ;-D
OK so I did this exact recipe and followed your steps to a T but my brisket came out really tough. Great flavor and the veggies were perfect, the brisket was just so tough. I cooked on an Acorn char griller and then I placed everything in a pan wrapped it and cooked it in a Vision ceramic cooker at 300. Any thoughts?
Great video bro! Gonna be doing mine this way this year! I love good Irish corned beef but the family has a hard time with all the salt in them. So I sure hope this does the trick! Any new tips since making this video? Au jus? Or gravy???
Frank Koller that is a Yoder smoker, YS480. I have a YS640 and it is a hell of a smoker and built like a tank. Did a turkey breast today along with smoked macaroni and cheese.
Whenever I need to cook something, I always go to HowToBBQRight. Never let me down🙌🏼🙌🏼🤘🏼
Same here lol.. Malcom is a Legend 🙌
Me too lol
Hard same!!

Yyyeepp!……..Surprised so few views on this video after 7 years.
Several years in a row I’ve rewatched this video and make a killer St Patrick’s Day meal. Thanks for the video Malcom!
This turned out unbelievable...maybe the best thing I have ever made. The cabbage alone was just groundbreaking. I will be SURE to do this again!!

Funny how far Malcolm has come in 7 years. I still come back to this video every year to double check my math. Love the videos and the podcast man.
Wat this is best corned beef I ever made
I cooked this recipe yesterday. The corned beef was good but the big surprise was how flipping fantastic the veggies were!

How'd it turn out? Interested in the bacon version of the cabbage as well. Good call or ???
Love how Malcom shows all the step. Not leaving out the one secret that makes the meal
You know you’ve watched alllll Malcolm when you say, oh, that’s his old house!😍😍😍😍
NEVER steers us wrong!
This is probably the easiest thing I have cooked in a long time. Turn out fabulous!

Hey man just tried your recipe for the smoked corned beef and all i have to say is wow, thanks a bunch. I'm still a little new to smoking and love your videos for advice..

This is the most delicious looking video i have seen. The color of the meat to the vegetables u nailed it cant wait to try
This guy is great. If your flat came brined, I always leech out the salty brine first by covering it with water . 6 to 8 hours with several changes of water. Then dry rub and cook as Malcolm instructs.
This meal is being prepared tomorrow! My Irish lady will be happy. Thanks!
Ya man. Da cabbage recipe is the way we roll from here out. Very delicious and worth it. Did a different variation for the other ingredients but this guy knows bbq so you can't go wrong rolling smoke his way.
Looks great would love to see you do a re-do on this one in your new kitchen ❤️
I just made this and it turned out really good. Next time ima smoke it for 3 hours instead of 2 though.
Per usual, an outstanding video. Got a comp coming up next weekend, I now know what I am cooking for the Friday night dinner. Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic Malcom. Can’t wait to try this 👍👍👍
Love your videos!! Thank you Lord of meats🥩
Great recipe Malcom! Just made it on my Green Mountain Grill, and it came out awesome! I'll never boil corned beef again.
what kind of gloves do you wear, i see you handle some pretty hot items and they seem to do well, are they lined at all? I have tried several of your cooks and have had great success. Thank You

Every time I watch one of your videos, my mouth winds up watering!
Did this last year. It was the best ever. Just put another one on today. Happy St. Patty Day.
This looks so good, I wonder what a point end corn beef brisket would taste like? Got to make this soon. Sometimes I miss my Yoder pellet smoker for making things easy but I still prefer an offset for smoking. Great video!!!
I’m gonna try this this weekend. I want to see you do some pastrami next !!
He has a video on making pastrami
Your the best man! Keep ‘em coming!
Going to try this tomorrow.it should go great with my home brewed Irish stout!
Another great job Malcom
Wasn't planning on it but this method got me to pick up corned beef today gonna give this a shot tomorrow
I gotta try this. The wife loves corn beef. Looks great man!
we did this for Easter and boy Malcom you were dead on, and the cabbage ,,,,awesome. Thank you again bud
This Thursday is st Patty's day in I know what's for dinner. .Malcolm kills it everytime
You do this on your Yoder. If doing on a Weber, would you use indirect heat without a water bath?
I loved this cook. How would you do this on an Old Smokey Grill.
Looks great. would I ask for a corned beef brisket when purchasing?
I've made the cabbage in the oven but will try it smoked doing some smoking on Sunday.
I like all your videos keep up the good work.
This time of year you can find corned beef brisket at most supermarkets. I picked this one up at Sams. Smoking cabbage is the way to go.
Do you need to soak the corned beef before? Or can you just rinse it of real good? Worries about it being to salty if you are adding a salt rub on it.
Goin with this tonight. Real excited!
Any reason not to braise in guiness? Would it over power veggies?? Thanks Malcom
Fantastic video! I am going to use your recipe in a few days. 👍
I must have done something wrong as mine turned out tough. I wonder if my probe was measuring juice temp instead of meat temp?
Doing this method this afternoon! Let's get to cookin'!
Every recipe I’ve used from you has been amazing, my family thinks I’m the rib king 👍😂. Definitely going to try this recipe tomorrow morning for my buddy’s birthday/ St Patty’s party . Thank you very much
did you not soak it over night in water bc you braised it in water at the end in the smoker? and could you add guniess beer in that water bath? TIA
Creative, I must try this. Thank you for sharing.
what kind of wood did you use for this? did you add more water when you added the vegetables?
Looks good Malcom but I'm wondering, did the corned beef shrink that much or is it a trick of photography? The brisket looks noticeably smaller than when you started?
You haven't led me wrong yet, Malcolm.
I'm doing this for St. Pats.
Thank you
Did one this morning turned out great thanks for the info
Awesome video Malcolm.. Can you at some point do a pastrami vid?
Looks great Malcolm! 🤘
Looking delicious!
If you add half unsalted beef stock instead of all water and toss in a few whole cloves of garlic it turns out great
made your recipe for the Corned Beef Brisket (it came out so tender, with that delicious "smokey" flavor and just the right amount of seasonings). It was the BEST Corn Beef Brisket I have ever eaten! 6 years later and still no response
Malcolm I want to try this but I didn’t hear what kind of pellets you used for this.
Use Bearmountain Gourmet
I like how you prepared a whole Bbq smoked meal.
I'm not Irish but this it in the menu this weekend...looks great
Great video bro!
Gonna be doing mine this way this year! I love good Irish corned beef but the family has a hard time with all the salt in them. So I sure hope this does the trick! Any new tips since making this video? Au jus? Or gravy???
Awesome vid Malcolm...can you at some point do a pastrami vid??
I've got a Pastrami recipe, but I'll have to shoot a video soon. You can get the recipe here: howtobbqright.com/blog/?p=2012
Did you add more water after adding the veggies?. That couldn't be drippings from the meat?
Tip. Marinade beef in Guinness for 2-3 days in the fridge after soaking it off in water an hour before. 😉
Malcolm you made me the smoker I am thank you brother!
what brand is this smoker bbq ?? nice videos keep on !!
Frank Koller that is a Yoder smoker, YS480. I have a YS640 and it is a hell of a smoker and built like a tank. Did a turkey breast today along with smoked macaroni and cheese.
how long is cook for this recipe , never done it want to try .Please
Making this today! Thanks!
Sorry I know its been 3 years but did I miss you brining the brisket? was it already brined before you started the video? somehow I missed it?
Yes it is brinned and then packaged. He just pulled it out of the package.
I love the way he says foil
Dude your Awesome!!!! have you smoked cheese and or Seasonings ?
