This would actually be funny if will Smith actually smacked Chris Rock. It was fake and Chris Rock pulled his head back at the perfect time just as rehearsed.
I looked at Contreras stats and he deserves to be there too. Hitting almost .300 and scored 60 runs. But, what surprised me, is Smith has thrown out 19 of 27 base runners attempting to steal. That's according to ESPN but it says 41% which isn't right. It must be 47 sba.
Glad you wrote this, I knew there had to be at least 1 walk sprinkled in there if not 2. Still impressive of course but you answered my curiosity. Thanks
Bc he hit 3 in consecutive at bats in ‘77 WS, Reggie’s 4 straight HRs (on 4 straight swings) in that WS is not mentioned enough. His 1st of the 4 was in his final at bat in game 5. He walked in his 1st AB of game 6.
@@inathoiehohs8551 so throwing out runners is how you measure a catcher defensively? Contreras is hands down a better catcher than Smith….. there is literally zero argument you can make to change that. Smith is a good catcher. Contreras is much better.
I looked it up and, though he had four home runs in a game, Shawn Green didn't homer in four straight at bats. That is crazy. I wonder if any other Dodger has done that? He may be the first. Edit: Shawn Green did it against the Brewers as well.
Joe Adcock hit 4 hr when he was a Milw Brave. Then finished the day with a double! I was listening on the radio. What a thrill these major leaguers give us at times.
I was at the Rangers game when Beltre homered his first 3 at bats and then grounded out his 4th time up. The electricity in the ballpark was crazy going into that 4th at bat!
Which is more impressive, a 4 HR game or 4 HR in 4 consecutive AB (in a span of 2 games)? Not downplaying what Will accomplished here but I think a 4 HR game is better.
It obviously was not done in 4 consecutive at bats. It went from 1st inning, to third, to seventh. He definitely had an at bat in between the 3rd and 7th. Mathematically impossible to not have had one.
Let me start off by saying I did not watch the game so I can't say for certain. After the second homer the Dodgers got 2 outs in the third, 3 outs in the fourth, 3 outs in the fifth, 3 outs in the sixth and 2 outs in the seventh while also scoring 2 more runs. 2+3+3+3+2+2=15. This means Smith definitely came to the plate between the second and third homerun. Walks and hit by a pitch do not count as "at bats", only as "plate appearances". It would a total of 18 to get through the order twice so being we were at 15, Smith walked/hit by a pitch is 16 so two additional players got on base but did not score and were not a part of a double play between Smith's second and third homer. I was slightly confused myself for a moment on how it could be four consecutive "at bats" before it dawned on me
@@wilburwood8261 And no one will ever touch what Reggie Jackson did in the World Series. He hit four home runs in consecutive at bats (one in one game and three in the next game). Although that is similar to what happened here, that was in the World Series. And what makes what Jackson did untouchable is that Jackson hit his four home runs on four consecutive swings. He only swung once during each of the four at bats and hit a home run on that one swing.

That had me cracking. 🤣
Will is thinking yeah, Contreras, you're starting in the all star game. But me and Teoscar should be starters.
No they should not be.
Well we can disagree. Tatis is very good but Teoscar has more HR and 60 RBI. He's had some big game winning hits in the last month or so.

Commentators talked about how they didn’t have any homerun power or pop. Will Smith took that personally!
That was the funny part about all of this for me!
Talk about being "ON" !!!
That as a career right there !
Way to go young man.
I'm a Braves fan and I love Sean Murphy but Will Smith is the best overall catcher in the MLB.
We might see Smith in the derby this year👍🏽
One of the most overall solid players
Smith wanted to show Contreras what a real All-Star catcher can do with the bat.
But Contreras is significantly better defensively.
You sure about that? Will Smith throws out 34% of base stealers while Contreras throws out only 23%.

Smith is a good catcher. Contreras is much better.
I think the passion, kindness and confidence of Ohtani in the group, is guiding these men to new heights in their abilities.
Thank you, MLB
