A bead of white paintable caulk at the corners where you install the plaster board in the closet end will make that look finished without the time and dust of plastering with joint compound.

Assuming you don't plan to keep the skirtings bare wood, did you consider painting/varnishing/oiling before fitting...for an easier life?

Yes we will be painting the skirting board, will be treated first with Knotting, then primer and under coat and a couple of top coats.
