There's a good clip from the show River monsters where Jeremy climbs into a pool filled with 100 piranhas after pouring blood into the water and because he was a live human and not a dead and decaying one they didn't bother with him a single bit they want absolutely no smoke with people
1- I'm pretty sure the cast, aka the actors, are not the ones writing the plot or script when writers exist; 2- I don't think you need to be a fish expert to know that a chemical able to cause corrosion on human skin itself unless diluted and in low quantities, would practically kill fish, exclusively aquatic animals, especially the size of piranhas; 3- You don't need to be an expert on an animal to have it's presence on a scene make sense, that's just called: being a good writer, doing research and sometimes making use of basic logical thinking. So just normal research that good writers should make, would be enough to have them find out about red-bellied piranhas not actually attacking humans.
