  • In the first of a series of close, ground-level examinations of the political landscape in swing states, Harry talks with Michelle Cottle, national politics writer for the opinion section of the New York Times. Cottle has been on the ground in Pennsylvania, including the raucous rally in eastern Pennsylvania that Trump lead two days before showing up to sit quietly in court in New York in the first criminal trial against him or any former president. Cottle describes the “alternative reality” atmosphere of the rally, with upbeat supporters persuaded of different outlandish scenarios. The Biden campaign, in the meantime, has been ultra-strategic in seeking votes across the State and deploying not just the President but also cabinet officials and local Pennsylvania leaders. They believe that they are running somewhat ahead of their narrow victory margin of 4 years ago, and hope to capitalize on growing anti-Trump sentiment.

Pennsylvania is home to a large Ukrainian American population. Previously they tended to vote Republican in Central Pa. Scott Perry from the 10th district actually voted against funding the Ukraine defense. That is 150,000 votes that needs to be addressed in Potter, Dauphin, Cumberland and York Counties.

I live in PA. I did a quick calculation of the populations of the southeastern counties. 51% of the state population lives in 11 of these counties. The only other large population centers in the state are Scranton-Wilkes Barre, Erie and Pittsburgh.

Schwenksville is NOT representative of most of Pennsylvania!!! It is dense with luddites and Amish! I grew up in Philadelphia and my extended family is across the state including Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania is blue.

Meanwhile trump would never touch one of these people, never invite them to his home, never offer them a dollar.
BUT trump wants their loyalty and their money, and they give it.

    Basically...What is the Republican/MAGA point?
What is the point of Trump being President? What's the plan? What's the goal? What is the purpose?
Trump talks about the 1950s being when America was GREAT! I'm Trump's age, Trump is referring to some other spoiled rich kid planet...Not Earth.
The Republican party REALLY needs to come-up with at least some vague idea of a POINT!!!

I live in Lancaster Co here in PA.
    Please say it right. “LANK-aster”.
My GOP friends seem kinda resigned that Trump is gonna lose here.
Yes, it’s abortion. But really Trump has lost his fastball. He’s not funny anymore. He’s like fat Elvis. He’s just popping out the hits.
    He’s not really connecting anymore.

West Lancaster County here! People still have Trump 2020 signs up; not so many 2024 signs.😊

It is ridiculous when I drive the PA turnpike and 283 and see the old tRump Pence signs. Are they too lazy to take them down since Pence won't even endorse tRump.
So far my area of PA the old signs and flags are gone. Hoping new ones do not go up as the election gets closer.

Yup. It’s not going to happen for Trump in 2024. He needed every crazy thing to go right to get in in 2016.
Overall, he’s been a gift to the Democrats.
