    By under-exposing and then gain the dark areas in post, you are going to add noise…
    - You can achieve the same look in grade from a well-exposed shot, without adding noise…
    IMO it’s a bad advice…

    Great channel. I really like your presentation style, expecially the way you come across without belittling anyone. Now, enough smoke. Looking for some advice. Trying to use your filter system. Subject I am shooting is a small waterfall. It is in a hoeseshoe shaped mini cove, less than 50 meteres across. The open end faces North. Shooting close to dusk. If I use a filter high enough to get rid of the zebra stripes on the sky behind it, the waterfall and the rest of mini cove is too dark to see on my phone screen, making it very difficult to line the drone up exactly how I want it. Should I carry on and hope for the best? Back off on the filter strength and live with the over exposure? I'd appreciate any insight.

    • @TheDroneCreative

      Thank you. Really good question and I am more than happy to help. There are 2 ways to get round this and I go over both in this video here (ruclips.net/video/e4YqveyffSk/видео.html) at the GND filter section. First option is to expose for the sky and take a photo or do a recording, and then expose for the waterfall and take a photo or recording. Then in post, merge the 2 together to get the best from both. Second option is to use a "GND" filter. These fade from clear glass at the bottom to darker glass at the top and are created to solve the problem you are having. These allow you to get rid of the zebra stripes on the sky, but not have any darkening effects on the waterfall. Hope this all makes sense and helps!

    Hey Mattheww, great content mate. Im only new to the Drone thing and have recently purchased a Mini 2 and am getting used to it and your channel has really helped me out. Just wondering, I have noticed there are quite a few differences in the menu format differences from your older videos. For example the raise Gimble above the horizontal...I cant find 🙂 It maybe a new firmware update has happened since, Im unsure. Im located in Australia too so Im not sure if things are different in other countries. But if you could consider a refresher video for Beginners that would be amazing. Keep up the great work, I really appreciate everything you have done for me to date. Cheers Craig.

    • @TheDroneCreative

      Hey Mark, I wouldn't use ND filters on a dull day as they shouldn't really be needed. Depends on how "dull" it is though! Thanks for watching.

    • @jg1007
      @jg1007 2 года назад

      May I add that the use of filters should be determined by what you see. First set your frame rate and shutter speed to 2x frame rate. Then point the camera in the general direction you will fly. If you are using the exposure detection it should tell you if you are over exposed. If not, then no filter. If you are over exposed then try filters until you get the exposure desired.

    Just a quick question Matt....Why do you shoot at 1/60th and 30 frames instead of 1/50 and 25 frames..and also in Premiere is your timeline set to 25 frames or 30 frames?

    • @TheDroneCreative
      @TheDroneCreative  3 года назад +2

      My main studio camera shoots at 25fps, but I record at 30fps on my drone. Personally, I found 25fps on the Mini 2 can result in slightly stuttered footage when panning - so I shoot at 30fps and then use the Adobe Premiere Pro Time Interpolation function to reduce it to 25fps in post to match my studio camera. Hope that helps!

    30 f/s is realy not cinematic 24 f/s is real cinematic because was test on many people in Holywood and 24 f/s won because is the best for humam eye. So the close shutter is 1/50

    Hi Mattheww - just a quick question please :) You say you always film at 30fps but I have read other filmmakers who say 24 or 25fps is preferable. Saying that, I read that you should never film at 25fps because extra frames will be created in the edit process. It did not make sense to me but I'm at the bottom of the learning curve on all this ! Would be interested to hear why you choose 30fps if you have a moment ....

      @@TheDroneCreative Thanks for posting. I have been in video production for over 35 years so I believe I know a little bit re shooting 25 or 30 frames. If you are in a Pal country, you should always shoot in multiples of 25 frames to avoid a strobing affect you can get from some light sources. If you shoot in 25 fps using the correct shutter speed and edit in a 25 fps timeline everything should look fine. If it doesn’t, there is definitely something else wrong. If you live in a NTSC country (US, Canada, etc) that is when you use 30fps. I too have the mini 2 and have never had an issue shooting in 25 here in OZ

    About 16-years ago when I got my first digital camera, the camera sensors were much noisier. One tactic for reducing noise was to under-expose by 2/3 of a stop. The raw format contained information outside the dynamic range of most displays. This shadow detail could recovered in post processing resulting in a richer image. Today, my DSLR and smartphone does this automatically and the sensors are much less noisy.

    Question: Is there a way to get shots on sunny days where the shots into the sun are ok due to using a filter (in this specific example ND64) and shots that are not too dark when not facing the sun?
    I was thinking maybe I need to film my sunny shots, land change or remove ND filter, film the rest that are not into the sun? Edit in post? my stuff is just for fun but I still like to do as good as I can - also had altitude restrictions on this (Nashville Parthenon): ruclips.net/video/eZal4KH0wOo/видео.html
