Good breakdown JRV. I agree and have always thought Dan could use extra wrist rotation. His handles always appear slightly angled up. I think they would both be well served by gradually working down to a bit shorter rope as they both have a lot of clearance overhead. But overall ya, they get the basics enough to get it done which is what it's all about. 👍🤙
My man! Thanks for checking out the video. That's a great point about the rope that I didn't really look at! I agree, it's always good to pare down to a shorter rope as your skills improve.

Very cool breakdown. I started basics with the Jump Rope Dudes as well. And they made me want to jump weekly so I'll always be grateful for the motivational aspects they gave me.
Shirt, you're too kind. Thank you. I always try to remember that everyone has a different style that works well for them. I'm sure if someone were critiquing me, they'd find something they thought was wrong! I think both their forms work well for them, which is what really matters.
Great breakdown, I really enjoyed this. I picked up those Ghost 13 shoes that you recommended and I really like them. Thanks. I’ll check out your videos on the side swings. That’s what I want to learn next. I’m kinda starting out for I just know about 5 basic foot steps. All the best...
Thanks for watching, Marvin! I'm glad you went with the Ghost 13s and that they're returning value to you. Definitely check out the side swing tutorials. It's a great move to learn because it opens up a lot of opportunities in jump rope.

Good breakdown. I watch myself in front of a mirror most of the time to work on technical fixes. I can say this jumping rope as a tall person is a lot different. I’m 6ft3 so I feel like I have to do what works for myself. Thanks for all the work you put into your videos.
Chris, thanks a lot for tuning in man. The mirror method is a great one. Keep doing that. I can only imagine trying to jump rope at that height, but you got it man. Keep up the great work!

Chris, you have a good point. I'm a smaller guy (5'5/145) and I think there's an advantage there, although I do see a lot of taller and really Lean guys (an example is this guy Jimmy from IG) moving pretty effortlessly. He's had tons of practice though. I'm not sure how tall he is, but I know he can dunk a basketball. Keep getting after it man. I know you can get to your target!

I was literally breaking down their form myself the other day, realizing how far I’ve come since I started jumping rope (they’re the first channel I watched when I first started jumping, and I thought they were the GODS of jumping). Perfect timing for this video!! Super interesting!
I'm newer to jumping (2months) and I am constantly analyzing others to improve myself. I love this breakdown. They're not really trick kind of guys but all about the workout and body sculpting so I feel everyone has their uses. I like their channel for foot work and working out. I look in other places regarding tricks that I want to learn in the future but still enjoy their channel for its use.
Yes, I totally agree. There are enough jump rope channels out there to where you can pick and choose what you want to get from each. It's a great thing!
Finn, thanks a lot for watching all the way through! I know it was long. I really appreciate when people take the time to watch the entire video. Thank you for that.
I love jrd, was the first channel I subscribed about jump rope, when I bought my first rope... My biggest critique to Dan's form is that his knees collapse a lot, 9:00 About wrists I think is better to recruit the shoulders for longer sessions I think Brandon's arm position is the best one, closer to the body, because allows more tricks. Maybe Dan's side swings are higher and he has to hold the rope that high because he opens too much his arms But is align with their message, just do the thing :) I jumped for years without learn any tricks, just working on my form and jump more closely to the ground. I had no time to do tricks, many pounds to lose lol But I did the thing ;)
Yes, they add a lot of value to their audience. I'm glad they've inspired you to get out there and take action! You're right about Dan's knees. I didn't point that out in the video but many people have commented on that.
Great analysis. I've always attributed Dan's head bobbing, and even his side swings, to his dancing background. That's just his way of having fun with the movements and he's not necessarily trying to be super strict with form. I agree though that you shouldn't try to emulate this if you are just starting off. I would definitely like to see more of these videos.
Thanks Michael! I had no idea Dan used to dance. Perhaps that's a good explanation for the head movement. If you have anyone else in mind that you'd like me to cover, feel free to let me know. These videos are a lot of fun to edit and produce.
@@JumpRopeVeteran He still does! He brings it up every now and then as one of the ways he stays active. There are some short clips of him dancing here and there but I'm not sure which videos they are in. Rush Athletics and Jump 15 are two reviews I would like to see.
Nice. Dancing is a great way to stay active! I'll put Jump 15 and Rush Athletics on my list. I think both of those will be more of a stylistic breakdown rather than a critique, as both those guys, especially Kyle, are extremely talented and have the fundamentals down pat.
I know that this is an old video but I would like to give my opinion about Dan arms position. I have the "get strong" crossrope sets and being just into the L length I was wondering if it wasn't better to order the shorter size but I follow their recommendation of better a longer rope than shorter one if you are a beginner. In my case, I regret I didn't send the set back to get the shorter version and to use the 1 and 2 pounds rope I tend now to keep my arms more far from my body then when I use the beaded rope I have. So I think (could be wrong) that Dan, as many others crossrope users, might have a slightly too long rope and so having that arm position.
In my opinion and experience, it's best to get a longer Crossrope. You can tie knots in the rope to shorten it, but you can't lengthen a rope that's too short for you.💯
Killing it, JRV. Loving your videos. I wonder when somebody would cover this topic. I actually don't like their videos. I surpassed their skills within a few months of jumping and I'm not sold on the Cross Rope.
Ditto. I also enjoy a more interesting, freestyle-based jump rope workout. My $5 beaded ropes with long handles from Amazon has been serving me well (until the handles break from so much slamming into my deck - 😁) so yeah, no need for the $100 rope.
Jim, thanks a lot. I got the idea from another viewer/subscriber. I thought it was good and went with it, especially after seeing that no one had covered the topic yet. I don't think that advanced jumping is their thing. They're more about the basics and being in shape. I think the Crossrope is a good product, but I think it's fine to get a cheaper rope if that's what works.
Sonya, you're right about the Crossrope not being great for freestyle. It's more of a workout rope, unless you're a freak of nature like Kyle from Jump 15!
@@JumpRopeVeteran Some people just want a fitness rope and probably decent for that. I'd be more interested in the Rhythm rope or maybe the one that Jump Rope Mom sells on her website, or even the Ballystyx rope first if I was just looking at a fitness rope.
Jim, agreed on the fitness point. The Rhythm Rope is a solid option, probably the best out there for people who just want fitness and aren't looking for weighted ropes. The rope Jump Rope Mom sells is a common rope that's sold on Alibaba. I know at least two other people who sell that same rope with their personal brand on it. If people are using it, it must be decent.
Brandon is also a boxer so that might explain why Brandon's form is more clean than Dan's. I think the size of ropes they regularly use is also 1/4, 1/2 and 1 lb so they're still weighted but they're light enough to not affect their current forms or feel the need to size down/put knots in
Annabelle, thanks so much for watching! Yes, I think Brandon being a boxer influences his style. I agree with you. You're right about the sizes as well. I find that form starts to experience influence at the 2 lb mark, but that's just me. I'm shorter and weigh less than the Dudes.

Great video and interesting commentary. A few notes: - Dan recently released a video where he said he had sclerosis and explained this is why he uses his arms more to sort of compensate. -Another thing I notice with Dan’s form is that the whole upper body is tense, which is probably better for overall muscle engagement. And you can see that Dan’s upper body is way more developed than Brandon’s. I think his form has a lot to do with that, assuming they do the same types of workouts, which they claim to do on their channel and I have no reason to doubt that. I actually mimicked Dan’s form because of this because I think it’s better from an exercising perspective. -Brandon’s form is more textbook. But you should check out his form in their older videos as it looks strange (over exaggerated wrist movements; upper arm seems like it’s glued along his torso). He’s definitely evolved and improved. Dan’s form has basically stayed the same throughout the years. You should do more of these videos. Would love to see one of Rush Athletics or Punk Rope.
Thanks a lot for watching and for your notes. Your points definitely make sense. I didn't know Dan had sclerosis. Much respect to him for still doing what he can to get after it. This probably explains the knee-bending. I'll watch some of their earlier videos to check Brandon's form. More videos like these are coming. I've done them on Glen from Rope Rage, Michelle Obama, Manny Pacquiao, and Jason from Precision Striking as well. Check them out. Thanks again for your support!🙏🏾
Hey, Do you have any videos breaking down wrist/arm form while jumping rope? I’m a beginner & I have a tendency to bring my right arm (dominant hand) down lower than my left arm. So my right hand is about 2 - 3 inches below my waistline & left hand is about 1 - 2 inches above my waistline. I think my weaker arm (left) utilizes more of my arms & shoulders while my right arm (dominate arm) uses more of my forearm. Did you have this kind of problem as a beginner? Love the channel you give amazing jump rope tips bro. Your form is perfect.
Irv, thanks a lot for watching. I appreciate your support. I don't think I had that problem in the beginning, but it's a common one that many struggle with. You're not alone there. Make a conscious effort to rotate both wrists and keep them level. Try jumping in front of a mirror and/or taking videos of yourself as often as you can. Here are two videos that have a little bit of instruction on wrist placement: ruclips.net/video/Vj2KSVkQES4/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/S5y5LJiUnug/видео.html. Thank you again for your support man.
I think the slight inefficiency of his movement comes from using some of the heavier ropes too much. Because some of his mechanics (using your shoulders to rotate more than the wrists), are easier when you’re using heavy ropes a lot. Great content as always!
Patrick, this is an interesting point and I agree with you. I find myself using my shoulders more with than 1 lb rope and above. I didn't think about this during the editing, but I believe you're right. Thanks for your support and for watching!
About 4 1/2 months in my jump rope journey, I'm disappointed at how little they're capable of (at this moment, of course.) They can't do things like side swing crosses, EB, toads, elephants, caboose, AS, Triple unders, 180 turns, and even basic wrap tricks. I don't consider myself an expert by any stretch, but these are all things I learned in my first 1-3 months, so I wonder what they've been doing for the past few years. Given that, these guys inspired me to start jump rope initially, back in July 2020. They're chill and their channel is quite informative on things related to jump rope (recovery, fat loss, equipment, etc.) So props to them on that, they're terrific fitness entrepreneurs and I hope they can expand their brand to include more than just jump rope, because they're probably the most shredded jump rope youtubers. I understand their focus is more about fitness and getting into the basics, I'm just confused as to why they don't show even some intermediate moves just for fun (i'll admit, the crossropes don't give you COMPLETE freedom for tricks, but you should be able to do most of the tricks I listed above). I have a similar problem with Rush Athletics, although I think Rush has a lot more skill, versatility, and speed. He makes simple double unders and side swings look like magic. Anyway, that's my personal take. No diss, all respect to these guys. They've really started a movement and I'm so glad I ran into their channel because jump rope has changed my life from that point on. I think it's ESSENTIAL to have people dedicated to the basics, because we don't want a barrier of entry into the jump rope game. Everyone should be able to enjoy it to whatever capacity they have. But once you're ready to move into the intermediate range, I highly recommend Nate K-G, Mira Waterkotte, and Nick Woodard (among other competitive jumpers). They teach you the moves that will take your game to the next level. Keep it up, fellow jumpers! And as the jump rope dudes say, DO THE THING :)
J-Vizzle, thanks for checking out the video! I hear you. There are a lot of styles of jump rope. My opinion is that JRD isn't concerned with learning tricks as much as they are concerned with concentrating on the basics and delivering content centered around losing weight and staying in shape with jump rope. They also are tied to using Crossropes in their videos, which isn't the best rope for freestyle unless you're an extremely skilled jumper like Kyle from Jump 15, who uses the 1/4 lb rope like many people use a rope meant for freestyle. You're right about the movement. They've created a massive following because they're relatable and they deliver a lot of value to people who are trying to get healthy.
@@Yellow30045 Ha. I posted that comment before he posted the video about me. This video came out in November 2020. I don't think it's a good idea anymore. 😅😅😅😅😅
Dan jumps like that because his rope is a bit long. That's why he opens his arms and elevates them for the sides wings. It's crossrope and he has to adapt to the fixed length.
I've really liked JRD and they've helped me a ton, but yeah, I never understood why Dan jumps with his arms so far out. That would kill my arms if I tried it during my usual jump rope workout. Then again, he's shredded and I'm definitely not, so maybe he's torquing his shoulders and arms more on purpose?
What's up Ken. I heard something about him having sclerosis unfortunately, so I think that's a main factor in his form. After reading a few of the comments, I'm also convinced that Dan's rope is too long for him, so he has to fix his hands widely so that he can clear the rope. You're right, though. It appears to be working for him, which is what matters when it's all said and done. 💪🏾
So weird that I was thinking about this today, and how their technique is not correlated with their fame. Cool channels though, and helped me get into jump rope.
I seem to remember way back in the day, JRD, before they were JRD used the weighted handle jump ropes from Dick's in their videos. Maybe their style comes from using that type of rope?
Tic Tac, thanks a lot for watching! That could be it along with the heavy Crossrope attachments they use on a regular basis. I think they used to use the Buddy Lee Rope Master before they got on with Crossrope as well.
I was about to write this, I have only been jumping for a couple of months and I've seen him say that several times in the videos so I'm not sure why people aren't aware.
They are good at marketing and promoting their products, but other than that they are more about basic movements rather than flash. Their workouts are decent at best, but not the most challenging. i dont think they will win world championships anytime soon.
What's up, Anthony. You're right. I think their value proposition is more about using jump rope and fasting to get in good shape, which both of them have done and help others do. JRTF. 💪🏽
I don't know about their jumping, but I'd be more inclined to watch their videos if they each put on a SHIRT. The male dominance factor in their videos is just something I cannot do.
I definitely understand. I'm not excusing it, but I think that jumping with their shirt off is part of their whole value proposition and that they'd have a much smaller audience if they didn't. I think there's value in showing how a body can change through jump rope, but I don't think that's their intent in all of their videos. I appreciate you sharing!

Here are two videos that have a little bit of instruction on wrist placement: ruclips.net/video/Vj2KSVkQES4/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/S5y5LJiUnug/видео.html. Thank you again for your support man.
@@JumpRopeVeteran Awesome thank you!
Irv, for sure man. Keep putting in the work!
Thanks for sharing
No problem! Thank you for watching!
Great video
Robert, thanks a lot for being a supporter since the beginning!
Nice breakdown. Could you do similar review for Rush Atheletics?
Thank you very much for watching. Sure, this is a great idea. I'll put that video on the list. Thank you for that!
@@JumpRopeVeteran Are you sure 😃 , as you know he didn't like your comments on his money rope. He went way over the top in his comments.
Thanks for sharing.
Agreed. It goes to show that the most talented aren't always the most followed. They help a lot of people, though, and they continue to do so.
I think they used to use the Buddy Lee Rope Master before they got on with Crossrope as well.
he said his arm width was due to back problems; so he knows about it.
Thanks for sharing. Both are solid rope jumpers.
@@JumpRopeVeteran yeah I'd have to agree with you both....clearly the shirtless approach is them targeting the "little boys" who want to get them abs!!
Yeah, it's all part of their value proposition I guess. I wouldn't do it, but it's what they do. Haha.
