    • @Cloe092
      @Cloe092 7 месяцев назад +2

      There isn’t hydrogen bonding that occurs with cisplatin, its the Cl atoms in the complex that binds to guanine, hydrogen bonds are not important nor relevant

    • @coyg8563
      @coyg8563 7 месяцев назад +1

    • @aloha_0

      yh i think so, you can end your para abt DNA with: hydrogen bonds are important because without them, cells wouldn't be able to divide (obv elaborate on this a bit). for example the use of anticancer drugs such as cisplatin that work by preventing hydrogen bonds forming in DNA - this is evidence that hydrogen bonds are essential in the DNA and cell replication

    When they ask about “the importance” is the pretty much the same as asking “what do these things do?”

    • @rozza5842
      @rozza5842 7 месяцев назад +5

      no - the importance part of the paragraph is the AO2 (application) marking point - if you only talk about what the things do you are only getting AO1 (knowledge) marks. you need to talk about what the things do and THEN why that is important: for example it is important that glucose is transported across membranes through co-transport (then go into detail about the sodium potassium pump etc) BECAUSE glucose is needed for glycolysis which is the first step of respiration. then you go into a bit of detail about glycolysis producing pyruvate which is used in the link reaction etc

      @izzymccarthy8335 7 месяцев назад +2

      this is my paragraph on osmoregulation for an essay on the importance of osmosis, hopefully it helps a bit?
      Osmoregulation is the process that controls how much water is lost in animals via urine and is vital for maintaining isotonic conditions in the blood. When the water potential of the blood falls too low (becomes hypertonic), osmoreceptors in the hypothalamus shrivel up. In response to this, more of the hormone ADH is produced. The ADH is released by the pituitary gland, and then travels through the blood to the nephron in the kidney, where it binds to complementary receptors in the walls of the distal convoluted tubule (DCT) and the collecting duct (CD). This then activates phosphorylase enzymes within the cells, which causes vesicles containing aquaporin protein channels to fuse with the cell membrane. This results in more embedded aquaporins, which allows more water to leave the DCT and the CD via osmosis into the bloodstream. This prevents needed water from being lost via the urine, and ensures that the bloodstream maintains mostly isotonic conditions - therefore preventing the plasmolysis (and cytolysis) of cells.
      i've also used this paragraph (though slightly changed to change the focus) for an essay on receptors and one on interactions between organisms and their (internal) environment

    • @izzymccarthy8335
      @izzymccarthy8335 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@mariamfarid5941 if osmoregulation didn't take place, the water potential of blood would either fall too low or rise too high, so cells would undergo cytolysis (because they're animal cells and don't have a cell wall) or plasmolysis
      the receptors on the DCT and CD are important because they activate the phosphorylase enzymes, which causes the aquaporins to fuse with the cell membrane and allow the water potential of the blood to return to more isotonic conditions
      does that help? sorry i'm not sure if i'm explaining this super well
