to see a young black man, as yourself. to be touched by the Smiths,...it just touches my heart and soul...in the 80''s they were so special to me, and so many other "offbeat" people...Morrissey, the lead singer, was kinda like a guru for the misfits of the world....the music was haunting, rocking, and so deep, his poetry was inspiring...emotionally charging, and seemed to express what we sometimes found hard to express for ourselves.....you can go down a very deep, and sometimes dark, rabbit hole with them, but..STOP ME IF YOU HEARD THIS ONE BEFORE!!!

Spot on. I think a lot of people who don't like the Smiths just hear a whiny voice and a depressed outloook on life but in reality, Morrisey is taking the piss out of our and his feelings but also bringing a realness to the confusion and sillyness that we all face and then has the skill, as do the band, to bring it into something that is poetic and musically beautiful at the same time. One of the most gifted bands to ever grace a recording studio.

This song got stuck in my head for 3 months straight a few years ago. It was relentless. Driving to work? Cooking dinner? In the shower? Waking in the middle of the night to turn over? “AND IF A DOUBLE DECKER BUUUUUS....” Sometimes if you have an ear worm you can make it go away by listening to the song start to finish, but nope. It only intensified in my damn brain every time I’d try it (and I tried a lot). Just something about Morrissey’s voice and those strings. Although even after those three months I can still say I love this song.

Great choice. The Smiths were beloved of students and alternative types in the 80s. If someone says they don't like The Smiths - and there will be a few - then they're almost certainly a philistine with no musical taste. The [russian] duo t.A.T.u. had some success with their own 2002 cover; asked about it by interviewer Andrew Harrison, Morrissey declared it “magnificent,” but admitted he didn’t know much about the group. Told that they were teenage Russian lesbians, Morrissey replied, “Well, aren’t we all?” - Source: www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/flashback-the-smiths-play-an-epic-version-of-how-soon-is-now-38951/

I pleased to see your lovely reaction and your good interpretation by a young black man who had no idea of The Smiths who have gotta be my favourite and most influential band in my life time, at 12yrs old hearing them made want to learn the guitar and devote my life to music, they taught me so much in life not just musically but lyrically so much, people who don’t like their music or understand them always say they’re morbid, I get that but there is also much humour & sarcasm in so many beautiful songs, the fact is they wrote about real life events and we all know that life isn’t perfect and happy all the time. The music was always new and creative and just weaved perfectly together.
Thanks again really love your reaction and your open mindedness, that’s very rare, so that’s makes me very proud of a man like you. Thank you Stephen, Manchester, England.

The first time I took notice of the Smiths was when a friend had to review the new release (This Charming Man) for his university paper, it stayed on the turntable for many hours... Morrissey is a songwriter and vocalist that is on the next level... 'This Charming Man', 'Girlfriend In A Coma', 'Cemetry Gates', 'How Soon Is Now' are all worthy of reaction but his solo masterpiece 'Everyday Is Like Sunday' is my pick for next reaction... Again Morrissey/Smiths have a large body of work with classics littered on every album, sometimes it is only classics on the albums... Good reaction...

Incredible band. Great lyrics, so you may want the lyrics versions. They always sound so melancholic for me. But i like it. Very unique singer in Morrissey. I would recommend "The Queen is Dead", "How soon is now?" and maybe "I know it's over" but only if you want to hear one of the saddest songs ever. Many other great ones. Almost all of the songs are huge grower, especially this one.
