Hey man, thanks to you and Herman for taking the time to do this. I’ve already been following along to some of your other videos as I’m at a bit of a crossroads myself career-wise, so being able to hear ur guys’s experiences is honestly invaluable. So thanks again and respect to you and Herman for working like beasts!
Definitely had a good group of guys there. Pretty sure most already have good jobs in dev. I don't remember ever seeing your videos during class, although links to your vids were always shared in our Slack channel. Your Concurrency and Threading vid, along with interview questions definitely got passed around a lot, haha.
Herman’s hits upon my situation. I am in healthcare and need a change. My creativity has been on “e” (empty) and need that change (that I think you all can understand). My current job is similar to Sean’s background in the sense my performance is dictated by someone’s subjective position who was already predisposed to making the work environment uncomfortable for me. I am new to these posts but am going through them all. It’s exciting; thank you for all you do. Keep the posts rolling. Cheers!!
Herman: Congratulations on the Job! Thanks for sharing your story. Sean: This was great...having someone on your show. Please do more of the same! You make a great interviewer and should capitalize on it. Herman was great. Paul Hudson was great. You interviewing them was GREAT. Please do more :)
Thanks for those kind words, Talal 👍. I've had a bunch of interview ideas, and will start experimenting with them over the coming weeks. Some may be podcast only just due to the technical hassle of filming the interview, so be sure to subscribe to that (iOS Dev Discussions). But... if I can film the interview I will. It just may not be possible sometimes.
Thank you Talal! Yeah Sean inspired me a lot and the whole point of this video was to hopefully inspire others as well just like it did with me! I agree Sean should definitely do more interviews haha
Awesome video! Amazing job Sean !! One thing that makes your video attractive is that it is crisp and to the point and crystal clear on the basics . Every video we watch makes us want more content! Keep up the great work... 😄
rewatching this, I got to minute 30, and I am that person. graduated bootcamp september 2019 and top of the class and havent been able to get an offer...
Sean, great video!! I think this video motivates us all whether we have zero experience or have some experience. Your questions were on point! Thanks to Herman also for sharing his experience. Really helpful for all of us!!
Thanks Manuel... that's what we were hoping for. I want to share more stories like mind an Herman's to keep reminding people, completing this journey is VERY possible and it happens all the time.
@@seanallen Yes Sean, I've been learning Swift for about 2 months now with zero experience in programming, and likes Herman said, it's addictive. I have a picture in my mind that I want to be an iOS developer because I love create something that challenging and fun. And I find your videos are the most inspiring. I hope I can meet you in person someday, when I have enough experience/knowledge. Once again, keep inspiring others, Sean. It impacts me so much.
That's great guys. I learnt iOS development in 2 months. Totally self taught. I really love it. iOS development is really well organised. It's vast yet easy to grasp with a little hardwork. Sean you are definitely making an impact. Please keep it. There are so many other awesome people looking for good learning material. Please share how you built your website where you have your portfolio etc. It's really attractive. Did u use wordpress?
Sean Allen I meant for Muhammad to answer it 😂. Are you an iOS developer too? I just wonder how long in your case you got a job after your education in iOS development.
I started learning Swift in February. I too started on Udemy and later discovered your channel while searching about delegates and protocols. I started coding the same time I started work at my current company. Its a consulting role that I don't find interesting at all. I've enjoyed using swift and Xcode and hope to make the switch to full time iOS dev soon. I'm currently helping a few people with their app projects to up my code game! :)
I like seeing people managing to reach at this level starting from zero programming experience. It inspires the rest of us to continue this journey. Sean what is your recommendation between Paul Hudson's Hacking With Swift and Raywenderlich as I cannot afford both.
I love RayWenderlich because I'm not that great of a reader I'm more of a visual person. Hacking with Swift does give out the free Beginner pdf for free so you might want to check that out first!
Hi Sean, I live in San Jose, CA and I want to attend a bootcamp, specifically codingdojo because they're located in San Jose too. I want to focus on iOS Development but looks like codingdojo works differently (they teach 3 stacks I think). What do you think should I sign up or not? Thanks for your time
I'm not familiar with that one, so I can't really speak to that. But once you learn one language and the basic programming fundamentals. Learning a new language gets easier.
I have firm desire to learn programming and programming languages for doing work like full stack developer as Remote or freelancer. Its my dream and wish to work and keep learn more in software field.
Richard_AKL i think he said it depends for each bootcamp. In his case, they asked him to make few projects from the original apple docs/tutorials & the big nerd ranch guide to ios dev.
My interview lasted an hour. It was a huge surprise for me that they are still using the cocos2d framework to write games. I was worried about objective-c, and they asked if I wanted to learn c ++. They talked about the project they are working on and they expressed their concerns about whether I could handle it (it is a project for ipads in swift, not a game). So I asked to check me out. They'll give me a piece to do. I will have a week for it. Then they will decide whether to hire me.
I always enjoy take home projects. Really gives you a chance to show what you can do. Best of luck, and happy to help if I can (without cheating, obviously)
Great story, but the guy pretends that he had ZERO programming experience, but previously states he coded swift on Udemy, Wenderlich, etc... Folks, NO ONE walks into a bootcamp with ZERO PROGRAMMING EXPERIENCE!
I don't know why you got offended because I'm also an Asian and I can't finish the whole video so that's why I was asking maybe I could get some information that can help me in the near future.
woah, Thank you Sean. I just watch the video again to know what bootcamp did he go to since I've been searching for bootcamp here on our country (Philippines) for iOS stuff but it's kinda hard since they all focus on andriod stuff.

This is cool because you don't hear many of these stories. Please do more of these if possible. Its always cool to see how people approach Swift.
If I can keep finding people that have completed the journey, I’m happy to share their stories.
Awesome! Hearing these stories makes me want to hop back on my laptop and start working again!
Hey, whoever is reading this, have a great day and keep being beautiful and inspiring
Thank you :D
Thanks bruv
Herman!!! That's awesome, man!! -- We were in the same cohort for iOS Dev at DevMt in SLC!!
Haha, I enjoyed hearing about his experience at Dev Mountain. Sounds like you had a good cohort.
Definitely had a good group of guys there. Pretty sure most already have good jobs in dev. I don't remember ever seeing your videos during class, although links to your vids were always shared in our Slack channel. That's awesome to hear. Happy to hear that I can reach a lot of aspiring developers and help out!

Glad you're enjoying the channel! If you decide to pursue the iOS Development route, it will be VERY helpful!
Great hearing Herman’s story... Congrats on the first job!
Thank you!

Wow that feeling when you inspired someone. Congrats sean
Thanks Jancy... it makes it all worth while.
This is a must watch video for all aspiring iOS developers. Thanks a lot Sean and Herman for sharing your experiences.
Happy to help!

Thanks for the kind words, Sharon. I appreciate them 👍
Glad to hear these success stories. Reminds me of me 15 years ago. Good stuff!
Thanks Raul 👍 Hopefully it inspires people just starting out on their journey.
Huge achievement man!! Loved to see CTCI in sean's background 🤩
Thank you so much!
Great content as always Sean. Congrats on the job Herman.
Thanks Quentin!

Thanks for the kind words! I build my website myself using HTML/CSS and the Bootstrap framework. I'm using Github pages to host it.
Just curious, do you have a job now as an iOS developer?
I do.
Sean Allen I meant for Muhammad to answer it 😂. Are you an iOS developer too? I just wonder how long in your case you got a job after your education in iOS development.
Awesome video! Thanks for all the great content.
Happy to hear you're enjoying the content, Caleb.
Yo Sean you're killing the upload game right now man! Spicy!
I can dig it.
Thanks JayDee. I wouldn't expect daily uploads to go on forever... it's tough to keep that pace. But I've been on a roll 👍
Awesome video.... Thanks for sharing Herman and Sean!
Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks max!

I’m good to go for now. Just need more experience under my belt. Thanks for the offer! :)
Congrats Herman! Cool adventure :)
Thank you so much! Appreciate it
I checked his channel, why no content, or in private
I like seeing people managing to reach at this level starting from zero programming experience. It inspires the rest of us to continue this journey.
Sean what is your recommendation between Paul Hudson's Hacking With Swift and Raywenderlich as I cannot afford both.
That was what we were hoping for. To inspire people, and let them know it's possible. That's a very tough decision! You can't go wrong either way.
I love RayWenderlich because I'm not that great of a reader I'm more of a visual person. Hacking with Swift does give out the free Beginner pdf for free so you might want to check that out first!
Wow this is so inspiring.. I'm from architectural firm too.. I'm glad I've watched this.
Glad to hear it inspired you Joel. That was what we were hoping for.
Great video keep making videos like this.
Glad you liked it, Ramesh 😀

Love this new series! Hearing fellow career-shifters turned developer^ and able to relate to some of their stories. Keep it up!
Glad you enjoyed it, Francis! I want to share as many success stories as I can 👍
I have firm desire to learn programming and programming languages
for doing work like full stack developer as Remote or freelancer.
Its my dream and wish to work and keep learn more in software field.
Awesome video! I'm new to swift and will definitely be subscribing.
Thanks for the sub, Eduardo! Hope you enjoy the channel. Feel free to reach out with any questions. I have an extensive library of Swift videos.
Do small companies hire people from abroad and help them get H1B1 visas?
Where can we find those 3 prerequisites? He skipped over them so quick I couldn't hear it properly!
Richard_AKL i think he said it depends for each bootcamp. In his case, they asked him to make few projects from the original apple docs/tutorials & the big nerd ranch guide to ios dev.
Beard! 🤘🏼
I actually learned a lot from this video.
Happy to hear it 👍
Amazing video
Very informative!!
Thanks Manas!
Your the best man @Sean Allen
Thanks!
Inspiring story!!!
Glad to hear that, Carlos. That was the goal of this video... to inspire 💪
I have my first job interview tomorrow 😳
Nice! Best of luck. Let me know how it goes.
Thanks, I will let you know.

I'm curious, If it's ok one question that I would like to ask to Herman, which Udemy course that he took ?
Hell YEAH HERMAN
I take it you know Herman? 😀
Sean Allen Yeah he was in my cohort at DevMountain. Super cool guy. Love the content dude! Keep it up.
Thanks! Glad you like it 👍
Can you please unlock my iCloud
Great story, but the guy pretends that he had ZERO programming experience, but previously states he coded swift on Udemy, Wenderlich, etc...
Folks, NO ONE walks into a bootcamp with ZERO PROGRAMMING EXPERIENCE!
Joe Bloe FoLkS
is he an Asian ?
Are you a white/black? see thats not nice. You could have ask "Is he of Asian descent?"
I don't know why you got offended because I'm also an Asian and I can't finish the whole video so that's why I was asking maybe I could get some information that can help me in the near future.
Yes
woah, Thank you Sean. I just watch the video again to know what bootcamp did he go to since I've been searching for bootcamp here on our country (Philippines) for iOS stuff but it's kinda hard since they all focus on andriod stuff.
