@@sparechainge What string set do you use for Drop B? I'm having a hard time finding 11-56 strings. Edit: I think I found them lol is it the D'Addario Med Top/Xtra Heavy Bottom?
@@sparechainge sweet, thanks for the confirmation! Hoping I can sell one of my guitars this weekend to get this PRS I really want, and then have that set up with those strings for my future Drop B covers/lessons.
The only way to 100% verify if you play song correctly is only meeting the guitarist at studio 5 minutes after he did the final recording. It's been many years since they recorded the song - and of course everybody is a human, so there is a big chance the musician will forget how he played the song exactly.
Yo thankss dudeee!! Im a drummer who has been playing for 7 years, and i just picked up a guitar like 9 months ago. I thought i would never be able to play the bridge part jim played. Thanks for making it easier than it sounds 😎. Now i can play the song both on drums and guitar. Thanks budd!! 😊😊
I got the hoodie as part of the 15 year anniversary for Iowa off their website in 2016, I actually don't wear it much since I'm assuming it's pretty rare at this point lol. Thanks so much for the compliment too, glad you enjoyed!
As always you’re welcome my friend. So, I’m going to see slipknot for the 3rd time this October 23 right above Atlanta Ga. I broke down and spent the big bucks on a ticket package called the Nero forte experience that secures a pre show “meet and greet” with them. When I meet Jim, I plan to try and direct his attention to your channel. Not saying it will go the way I plan, but that’s a part of my goal when I do meet him. You deserve his attention, and I hope like hell I can pull it off for you. I love, appreciate and respect this channel very much.
@@jocro3501 Oh wow - this is the nicest thing anyone's offered to do for me with this channel. I don't even know what to say, but the fact that you even thought to do this is amazing, and I'm super grateful. Have a blast at the show and let me know how it is meeting him!
Got a guitar mid 2022, I really wanted to play this song, but of course, kinda impossible for a day 1 💀 just discovered through this video at the time that rhere's different tunnings for a guitar... well, after more than a year and a half, this song came back to my mind and now i'm able to play it very decently, thanks for the video. Just wanted to say, this song still sounds sick in drop C, my guitar sounds ass if I down tune to A.
Glad to help, but yes for Drop A you'll want thicker strings or they will sound/feel like spaghetti. I recommend something like Ernie Ball Not Even Slinky
Man i really love your work and channel the most accurate and right tutorials and congrats on 1k. man i had a request, can you teach the intro of wait and bleed? i watched covers and tutorials but they are not right. i wish u could do it
Thanks so much for the compliment! To be honest, I cover Jim's parts as much as possible and my lesson and cover for that were for Jim's parts. If you mean Mick's octave parts in the beginning, I think him and Paul play the same notes and they're just outlining the chords they use in the chorus. I might be able to do a mini lesson on that on my Instagram or something.
Notes wise I don’t believe so, it seems like that’s a technique they use a decent amount. Playing the same riff while changing the drum feel makes it seem like the whole song is changing when it’s not really
@BlackacreDoe Dude thanks for the lesson! What guitar and amp are you using? Also, will this set of strings that you're using work on a guitar with a 25.5 inch scale? Such as a Jackson JS 12 Dinky? One of these days I'll pick up a 7 string. I use to have an ESP LTD M-17, and I wasn't too fond of it. The pickups on that guitar were great. But I prefer the Jackson JS 22-7 with a 26.5 inch scale. I just want to know if the set of strings, the Ernie Ball Not even slinky strings, .12-.56, will work well with a Jackson JS 12 Dinky guitar with a 25.5 inch scale. Let me know what you'd recommend string wise, on a guitar with a 25.5 inch scale. My guess is that you're using a line 6 amp. Definitely will learn this song on guitar.
The guitar is an LTD JH600, it’s 25.5” scale so yes the strings are fine for that. This is an old video, I don’t remember what amp it was but just some crappy practice amp that was laying around
Hey :) i think that the 1 Verse is played wrong. I was looking through some live Videos to learn the Song and slowed them down. Check out ressurection Festival. About 31:30? You can have a clear Shot if you slow it down.
Actually after looking into this more...it looks like this is a case of them changing how they play it over the years. If you take a look at this video at 17:00 (ruclips.net/video/Q5jzXtmjmO4/видео.html) Jim plays it the same way I'm teaching it and played it in my cover. But you're right, at Resurrection Fest and recent performances, they play it 4-3 on the low 2 strings and not 3-2. I think the album version and early performances are 3-2 though.
@@BlackacreDoe No shit ! I was looking that Video, too before you made your post and was trying to write a comment that i am maybe wrong. To late cause english isn't my first language 😅😂 Anyways your lessons are the best here on RUclips and the only one who really tries to be accurate as hell 🤘🏻
It's just a little crappy Peavey practice amp, the model is a Rage 150. I'm hoping to get stands soon for my speakers and just use the same setup I use for my covers, but for the lessons as well.
I got it on Slipknot's website, they sold them for the 15 year anniversary for Iowa back in 2016. Since they tune to Drop B and Drop A primarily, in my opinion using heavier strings is pretty important to maintain a clear attack for tone. It varies player to player but I use the 12-56 for Drop A and 11-52 for Drop B. Some would probably consider that light, but it's what works for me since I normally use 10-46 in E Standard through D Standard/Drop C.
Let's try again. Great lesson on how to play the song considering it's a prick to learn by ear, those string gauges for drop A are questionable ..however if they work for you that's great 🤘🤘
I appreciate the kind words on the lesson and yes, I’ve been told I use light strings. I think everyone’s gear should be catered to their preferences and playing style, so what works for me certainly won’t work for everyone. As long as everyone’s shredding that’s all that matters 🤘🏻
@@clint.87 I'd like to some day. First I have to get through the last few songs of Vol. 3 covers, and my upcoming lessons will probably be geared towards the first 2-3 records.
I'm a beginner. When he said slow, it was fast as fast as f for me😂
I've been playing for a while but I'm even having a hard time playing that intro correctly at that speed
11-56 for Drop B is amazing and I use Alice 1.20 mm picks for it. Extremely underrated company and they’re Matte Nylon picks and they work amazing
