I learned for myself that at the age of 67, I certainly do not need carbs. I have lost 50 lbs. in 8 mos. on the ketogenic diet. I take no meds and am enjoying all the health benefits from burning ketones rather than carbs. My bp is perfect, I have no more inflammation, and no more brain fog. I eat some veggies but no grains or starch, and of course no sugar. Glad I found your channel.
So true. Sugar is a drug. We have opiate receptors that respond to sugar and wheat. Most of it is a habit though. Once you get your body adapted to low carb and fat burning, cravings go away. That's one way you can tell that you are adapted to fat burning.
Just watched it for the first time. I know you have some many other videos on the subject, but this one is perfect to send to friends and family, and to remind us of the basics principles of a ketogenic/carnivore health lifestyle. Thank you again Dr Ekberg
Even thomas delauer looks sick from keto and his face is sinking in. Sorry but I don't think we should look like skeletons and obviously he's taking a PED to keep his muscle mass
I was debating this topic with my wife and I searched RUclips and thankfully found your video. My wife says you really know what you’re talking about. My wife is a certified naturopath and studies this stuff so I know your a good doctor...and now I believe her too lol. 😂

I disagree with your wife and my favourite Dr on this one. I haven't got any laboratory mice so I tinkered with two of my motobikes for 30 minutes each, one of them i took of all the carbs and the other i just loosened and tightened a few bolts and screws. The one with no carbs impossible to get it started and the other worked perfectly.
@@robinhood4640 of course because you removed the carb pathway completely. You must leave the carb pathway but you don’t need to rely on it to function. And you prove that with the carborated one as you obviously have some loose screws but still function.
Good new education on the significant role of insulin in throwing out the sugar out of our body, but all the while we were hearing that insulin is needed to push the sugar into the cells, then we came to know about insulin resistance and its potential threat to our body and now the the long-imbibed knowledge that carbohydrate is not the basic source of energy for brain is realy an eye-opener. Dr. Thank you so much.
Hi Kerry Kimmel (found your name in your about page). It has been a slow process 7+years. We have really focused since October 2017 to get the message out about helping people get healthy. Nice to "meet" you.
As long as you are not sensitive to the protein casein, and you pick a natural high quality cheese. Avoid american cheese and anything with coloring. Grass fed and organic is best if you can find it.
I'm not so sure that most people create ketones overnight. My understanding is that there is enough glucose stored in liver and muscle to avoid generation of ketones on a daily basis. This is why it takes a day or two of low carb consumption to begin producing ketones. No?
I am glad for this channel. It is next to Barbara O'Neill the best advice. As a Genesis-1-29-believer though, the advice against grains is not complete in my opinion. It is the refined grains that are dangerous. All foods that man has tampered with are health destroyers. Wheat, especially whole grain meal is as bad as GMOs, if not worst.
How can one avoid becoming a low-carb LDL hyper-responder, while following a keto diet program? Anyone affected by hyper LDL, following a keto diet? Thank you.
@@justo7955 That's what I did in my keto diet, and what I do in my current low-carb Mediterranean diet. Thank you. Oh, I forgot the good news: My LDL improved vs. the LDL prior to my keto/low carb diet. Thank you again.
Thank you for the video. I was being warned by family that the body will die if you don't have carbs. Even the FDA recommends that the Daily Value for total carbohydrate is 275 g per day. This is based on a 2,000 calorie daily diet . I have started keto and have been doing well, lost 20 lbs in the first 5 weeks. I was originally feeling awful at 300lbs and now just the diet, vitamins d2 , d3 and k2 mk-7 with olive oil, beta hydroxybutyrate , vitamin C and plenty of fresh leafy greans, fermented vegetables like sauerkraut, pickles, and meats but limited. I add fats to everything or have pork fats in sausages I make, dried and smoked hams, jerky, biltong, soppressata and other meats , but since keto doesn't allow you to overeat, I eat less than 2000 calories daily including beverages. I didn't even have to stop drinking beer a few days weekly, I switched to michelob ultra, 3 to 4 beers a couple of times a week, I just need to keep my total carb intake below 50 grams and I do not have a refeed day since I feel that the cheating would act as a drug addict relapsing.. That is exactly it because I am a food addict relapsing on something the body truly wasn't intended to eat. I try to eat whole foods, the only cheating there is almond flour and other ground up powders, but they do come from whole, all natural non gmo certified sources. I buy keto meals from Factor, they are healthy and delicious fresh unfrozen meals all natural, non GMO, non processed meals and are for the times when we don't have time for all the prep, cooking and cleaning. I take them to work for lunch and their egg bites for breakfast with my coffee. Energy boost city from high fat in the AM, however I am diabetic and have been extremely dizzy when waking up until I eat.
It depends on how carbohydrate tolerant you are. Sweet potatoes are very starchy and can create problems in a person who has insulin resistance or who has an unbalanced gut flora.
Look at the video from 4:15 on. Vegetables are great. They have lots of fiber and nutrients without raising blood sugar. The diet I recommend is moderate protein and low carb. Fat makes up the difference.
In my opinion eat in moderation and consume less portions, don't cut out any food for a long term health target. You never know you might be hit by a car any time of the day. So enjoy life in moderation and be happy as always.
You can substitute rice for cauliflower rice ,my husband and I have. It’s delicious. You can grate the raw cauliflower with a hand grater or use the grater attachment of you food processor, that’s what we do. The end result is cauliflower ‘rice’. Now use it in any recipe calling for rice ( fried rice, curry rice. ground beef and rice, just to name a few. Try it you’ll be amazed!
Humans evolved to use both glucose and ketones. Yes, the body can use just ketones but to say that this is best is a stretch. Nature has given a lot of effort to enabling the digestion of carbohydrates. You misrepresent glucose by just talking about "spiking". The best you can say is that what is appropriate is a balance between fat and glucose.
Shawn what are muscles and tendons made of? Carbs? No, protein. So knowing that, what do you think would be needed to recover from that kind of injury?
I understand the body need a healthy stable blood glucose level. In absence of carbohydrates let’s say entirely, how can our body maintain that normal required blood glucose level?
No it’s low carb high fat. No mention of protein. Fat comes from vegetable sources also like avocados, coconut and nuts and seeds. Also fish as opposed to red meat and chicken.
